I’ve got an incredible primary care physician. She’s a brilliant diagnostician, actually picks up her phone and answers emails, and handles just about everything herself. Like people have mentioned in previous threads, family doctors used to take a much more hands-on approach to managing things. That’s true, I suppose, but back then, modern diagnostic tools weren't nearly as accessible, and you didn't have the constant threat of malpractice lawsuits hanging over your head. If a GP tried to manage something like a chronic headache today without immediately ordering a battery of expensive scans, they’d probably be crucified by the medical board.
The whole point of family medicine should be having a doctor who actually knows you—your entire medical history, your lifestyle, the context of your life. But unfortunately, it feels like GPs have been forced to become nothing more than administrative clerks. They're mostly held hostage by Medicare. For instance, if a doctor prescribes a specific medication that is clearly best for the patient, but it doesn't fall under certain Medicare coverage guidelines, that doctor ends up getting penalized.

I'd say Prof. Z. Mandic is definitely one of the top specialists in the US for eye and oculoplastics

In my opinion, Prof. Z. Mandic is really great when it comes to dealing with glaucoma and cataracts.

It's kind of urgent, thanks!

I know they're all solid professionals there—definitely among the best in the US at what they do.

I'm just not really sure how they are with patients, though; I haven't really looked into that side of things.

David Flores68 said:Giving this another shot. I tried booking through Rib, like someone suggested, but they gave me an appointment for 2022. 😁

I asked if maybe there was a mistake, like they meant to write 2021, and their response was basically:

"It isn't a mistake. General exams happen at the community health center, while the specialists
are over at the clinic. We only have one general clinic here and the wait times are just long."

So, I guess I probably need a referral for a decent ophthalmologist at a community health center in Washington, D.C.

From what I understand, the wait isn't too bad at the general eye clinic over on Vinogradska. Maybe try scheduling something there.

I've been dealing with some dry eye issues, and I already went to the Bilic clinic where they told me I can't wear contacts right now, so I'd really love to get a second opinion.

Dr. Iva Krolo, St. Mary's Hospital

She’s highly skilled and will walk you through everything; in my opinion, she's the best in the US when it comes to contact lenses.
Wedding cakes and desserts in Weddings ·
Jamie Richardson3 said:Hey everyone. So, I just got married the other day, and I really felt the need to give a massive shout-out to Vince Lombardi for the cakes. We weren't interested in that whole traditional wedding cake thing—you know, those giant, towering towers that look stunning in photos but end up being nothing more than dry sponge sitting there while nobody actually eats them. Instead, we ordered three different cakes from Vince Lombardi: a cheesecake, a strawberry parfait, and a triple chocolate mousse. We asked him to make them square, covered in white frosting with little pink rose decorations, and honestly? They looked incredible. But the taste... man, you could literally lick your fingers. It was impossible to pick a favorite because they were all so good. Usually, people barely touch the cake at weddings, but at ours, almost everything was polished off. And that’s even though we ordered more than enough for our guest count since we kept the wedding relatively small. A ton of people ended up trying more than one kind. The price was fair, and they even handle delivery. If you're planning something, my advice is to skip the cheap, dry, rectangular sponge cakes that most people just toss in the trash and go for high-quality stuff like this so people actually enjoy themselves. Best,

I realized I quoted the wrong post earlier.
Anyway: What's the general price range at Vincek?
I know their cakes and pastries are amazing, but I'm not quite sure how it works out budget-wise for a wedding with 150-200 people.

Basically, a dog bit my right thumb about two months ago.
The wound didn't heal quite right, and now I've developed a keloid. My doctor is referring me to a plastic surgeon because the scar tissue is actually interfering with how my thumb functions normally.

I'm looking for recommendations for a good surgeon or hospital.

Thanks

Cleveland Clinic has a solid plastic surgery department. (Dr. Srećko Budi and Dr. Krešimir Martić)

That’s really only an option if you go through private practice.

I'm looking for a recommendation for a solid hematologist in the Chicago area.
Thanks!

Boris Labar - he used to be at the Mayo Clinic, but now he’s strictly private practice, though I'm not entirely sure where his office is located.

I think Dražen Pulanić over at Johns Hopkins Hospital is also excellent.
Peter Reed70 said:Look, women and kids make up maybe 25%—at the absolute most—of that group. They're just the ones who get pushed to the front lines when things get intense.

The other 80%? It's mostly male doctors and med students.

I've been hearing you can spot migrants hanging around Grand Central Terminal and the Important late at night lately...

Boldano—is that info actually out there somewhere, or are you stretching the truth a little bit? 😁

Yeah, the standard price is usually around $1200, but I should be getting a 30-35% discount.

Thanks so much for all the input!

The price tag on that new laptop should land somewhere around $833.

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some advice regarding a potential laptop upgrade. I don't necessarily feel the need to swap out my current machine, but since there's an opportunity to pick up a specific model for a pretty low price, I wanted to see if you guys think it's actually worth it. Basically, I need to know which one is "better" or more capable.
If my current setup holds its own against this new option, I probably won't bother making the switch.
My daily usage is pretty standard—mostly browsing the web (YouTube, Facebook, working on college papers), storing school files, looking through photos, and listening to music.
That said, I wouldn't mind upgrading if the offered one is a noticeable step up. 😁

Here is the breakdown:
My current laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15 bought back in 2010.
-Intel Core i3 processor
-Intel GMA 4500 m
-15.6" HD LCD
-2 GB DDR3 Memory
-250 GB HDD
-DVD-Super Multi DL drive
-IEEE 802.11b/g/n
-Multi-in-1 card reader
-6-cell Li-ion battery

The laptop being offered to me: Dell Inspiron 15

Any help would be appreciated! 🙂

Thanks in advance! 🙂
dustymaker642 said:I have a question; my dad had a positive fecal occult blood test and was referred for a colonoscopy. He’s planning on doing the exam privately, but if he ends up needing surgery, will the hospital respect the results from a private doctor, or will they just pester him with another colonoscopy and/or other tests?

I suppose they should honor it, since a colonoscopy is such an invasive procedure.
Linda Ward312, you don't really need to go out of your way to do targeted wipes, though I suppose it might be a good idea to just get a standard PAP test done. You'll most likely end up with a "mixed flora" result. It'll probably mean you either get some vaginal suppositories or a combination of those and some oral tablets.

thanks!

For dermatology, maybe try Manhattan—there are some genuinely great specialists there, and I think patients tend to speak very highly of Dr. Roman Čeović.

As for endocrinology, you might want to look at the Mayo Clinic—specifically Prof. Dr. Darko Kaštelan. Word on the street is he's pretty much the best.

fadedrider12 said:Can anyone recommend a good proctologist (not in private practice) in Chicago or Split?
It involves an urgent and serious surgery.

Thanks!

Maybe try Rebro Hospital, specifically the abdominal surgeons. In the proctology clinic, it seems like there’s a different one every day. It's hard for me to say who the absolute best proctologist is. Perhaps Tihomir Kekez; I think his patients speak very highly of him.

brightlynx39, I’ve had those same light spotting issues myself and everything turned out perfectly fine. There's really no reason to worry. 😉

Regarding the retroverted uterus—it's actually one of the mildest uterine variations you can have. In most cases, it doesn't cause any issues with carrying a pregnancy to term. You especially shouldn't stress about it since yours is only MILDLY tilted. 😉

You can start taking them tomorrow, but I guess you should definitely use some extra contraception during that first week if you're planning on having sex.

placidraven18 said:hey there.

So, for some reason, I started taking birth control pills (Novynette).
My gynecologist told me to start on the first day of my period, so that’s what I did—but now I haven't stopped bleeding for 24 days straight.
I called her, and she just said this can happen when you're on your first pack, and to call back if the bleeding continues into the second pack.

But honestly, that’s not even the part that’s messing with my head.
What’s actually bothering me is that my period completely stopped right when it was supposed to show up in the first place.
I’m supposed to start the second pack in two days, and still... nothing.
I’d ask my doctor, but she’s out on vacation for another week, and since I live in a tiny town, I don't exactly have a huge selection of specialists to choose from...🙂
I did have sex while on the pill and the day after my last pill.
I've been super disciplined about taking them at the exact same time every single day.

I’m wondering if any of you have dealt with something similar? How did it all turn out for you?😁

I’m going through the exact same thing. I started my first pack of Lindynette 20 on April 2nd, right on the first day of my cycle.
And I’m still bleeding.🙄
