žanr : dark ambient EDIT

EDIT: I think I’m the last one here, and according to the rules, nobody else should be posting after me. 😁

As far as the genre goes, I’d personally call it dark ambient. If anyone out there thinks it actually falls under something else, feel free to set me straight.

Yeah, this is dark ambient, no question about it. I used to spin a ton of Lustmord back in the day, and honestly, this hits very similar notes. I’ve always had a soft spot for this kind of music; it’s just so incredibly atmospheric.

When it comes to the overall vibe of Chernobyl, I can't help but feel it’s actually pretty similar to the movie Variola Vera.I've been sitting here staring at this video, trying to wrap my head around why it hits so hard, and honestly, it’s that specific kind of atmospheric weight you only get from certain eras of production. It reminds me of those late nights driving through the outskirts of Chicago when the city lights just fade into nothingness and it's just you and the hum of the engine. There's a texture here that feels intentional, almost heavy, like you can feel the air thickening as the track progresses. I remember listening to something similar back in college during one of those brutal winters where the silence in the dorm was almost deafening, and this carries that same sense of isolation. It isn't just background noise; it demands you sit with it, even if that discomfort is exactly what makes it work. Some people might find it too much, too dense, but I think that’s where the beauty lies—in that refusal to be easy or shallow. The subject matter hits close to home, and honestly, the movie is incredible. If you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor and go watch it. It's a must-see.

Just a quick math correction here: we haven’t actually picked 50 albums of the week yet. It hasn't been 50 even votes because there were a few weeks where we ended up selecting more than one album. That being said, I’m feeling like diving into something that fits my mood perfectly down South 👍

luciferian rays

Out of all the "newer" bands coming out lately, these guys are actually more than solid.

p.s. That coastline in the music video looks gorgeous; maybe somewhere in Oregon or something like that.

Clutch takes some getting used to, but I get why it wouldn't click for someone like 👍

It’s about time I celebrated finally getting out of isolation tonight at midnight. I'm jumping straight into the topic—to be honest, I didn't think this would actually get through, but I'm glad it did. 👍

I don't usually do this, but here are my personal top five, including one absolute classic!

Steven Newman50 said:The real question is whether the community here will actually go for it. 🙂 Things have been pretty quiet lately, so you might even catch people by surprise. 😁 Personally, I'm just waiting for someone to throw out a classic; we don't always need to be hunting down something obscure or wild on these threads.

If Blast Tyrant isn't considered a classic, then I don't know what is. 😁

p.s. I haven't been watching the series Big Mouth yet, but there's definitely a resemblance, true enough.

Take care of yourself—keep an eye on your sense of taste and smell, everyone says that's the first sign.

It says ten days for me. Honestly, I'm not sweating it; I've been eating well and keeping things high-quality just so I have a reason to keep testing constantly. 😁

I would’ve handled everything by now if I hadn't been stuck dealing with some idiotic self-isolation that forced me to basically move from room to room inside my own house. If things had stayed normal, I would have voted 😁

Dammit, I completely blanked on this because things have been absolutely chaotic on my end. It’s a real shame; the whole conversation was starting to pick up some serious momentum, and now it feels like we're losing that spark. 👎
