Hey,
Not sure if this is the right thread, but since there's "Home Theater PC" in the title, I figured I'd drop it here.
Got some leftover parts after an upgrade, so I’m thinking of putting together a Home Theater PC—saves me from having to leave my main rig running 24/7 just to run Netflix.
Since I'm building a second machine anyway, I might toss in a storage HDD now and maybe add more drives later to turn it into a NAS.
Current setup: B75-Pro3-M, i5 3350p, 8GB RAM, and a ST50F-ES 500W PSU.
The catch is I don't have a GPU, and the CPU doesn't have integrated graphics—so what's the move here?
Saw an NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 for $107 on eBay, which seems alright, but let me know if you guys have better ideas.
Also need a small case and a tiny HDD or SSD for the OS.
Any tips or advice would be huge.
Thanks for all the input, guys,
looks like most of you think that 7650k can actually handle League of Legends, even at 1080p
I’m assuming we're talking at least medium settings here—don't lie
now it's up to my buddy to make the final call,
thanks again for the help

thanks, I'll hit you up later when I need more gear,
as long as he knows which case and monitor to grab, the rest is just whatever he feels like buying--he'll pick what he likes.
Hey,
A buddy of mine needs a full setup—PC and all the gear—for about $1167. He’s basically just using it for League of Legends.
I mean, seriously, we're talking Steam, Skype, and nothing else but League.
What kind of specs should I be looking at?
So, I'm trying to run some text through this specific driver and printer combo.
The printer is hooked up via USB, and its own factory drivers work just fine—it prints without any drama.
What I'm doing is trying to print using generic Windows drivers instead. Basically, I’m adding it as a "new" printer using those generic drivers, all plugged into the same virtual USB port.

The steps for adding it are pretty much laid out in that link above.
But here's the kicker: when I try to print, the job leaves the spooler and hits the printer—the display even says "now printing"—but then... nothing. Total silence.
Anyone have a clue why this is happening, or is it even possible to use a generic driver with this particular model?
Thanks

Fine, then what's my best bet if I go with something cheaper? Honestly, I really don't wanna blow this much cash.
hey,
my old GPU finally bit the dust, so I need an upgrade.
was rocking an HD3870 paired with a Core 2 Duo E7200—powering it all with a Fortron 400FPN power supply.
I'm looking to drop about $167 max. Thinking I should grab something brand new—honestly, having a warranty feels worth it since I don't want to be swapping this thing out again anytime soon.
Mainly just playing Minecraft, Left 4 Dead, stuff like that. I know I probably won't have a ton of options at this price point though...
Hopefully someone can help me find something decent.😁
thanks for the tips—guess I'll just grab one of those you guys suggested
alright, is there a cheaper way to go about this? most of my younger cousins are using that PC for Minecraft right now—it's not exactly high-end gaming—and honestly, saving some cash is always a win 🙂
My bad, I misspoke—I’m looking for something in the $75 range where I actually get my money's worth, not just grabbing the cheapest junk from $67 that ends up being total garbage
Hey there
My old PC just lost its graphics card—RIP. I'm rocking a Core 2 Duo E7200 and a 400W Fortron power supply.
The old card was an HD3870. What would be a total "best buy" here? I need something at least on par with that old 3870—nothing super cheap or bottom-of-the-barrel for $67. Is it even worth buying anything new, or should I just hunt for deals on eBay?
And I was thinking if it turns out to be like that—I’ll just give it away to someone. Honestly, selling it for that kind of change isn't even worth the hassle...
Hey, quick question—what's this rig worth right now? Thinking about offloading it before I grab something new, or maybe just passing it down to a family member 🙂
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 CPU
ASUS P5K motherboard
4 GB DDR2 RAM
AMD Radeon HD 3870 GPU
700 GB Seagate SATA HDD
IDE optical drive
Fortron 400PNF PSU
Some random Gigabyte case with one fan
what's the verdict on this one:
Josh actually did a VEMIL breakdown like two weeks ago... thanks for the link... totally forgot that damn Target even existed...
I'm based out of San Francisco, got about $1,400 +/- $33 to drop on a monitor—any recs? Looking at Best Buy or Micro Center if possible
