Nicholas Collins68 said:Eve is bothering me again... I found this listing where some guy is selling a GTX 285 for $633 and claims it still has two years of warranty left from Best Buy—plus, he swears the card is 100% functional...

Now I’m looking for some advice... should I pull the trigger on that card, or just grab a weaker GTX 275 from a local shop so I know I’m the first one to touch it and nobody has been messing around with the hardware???

Give me some input... what has your experience been like buying GPUs through online classifieds??? 🙂

Well, if you actually go meet up with them to inspect the card—checking the paperwork, matching the serial number on the receipt against the sticker on the GPU itself—and everything lines up, then fine; for those kinds of deals, I suppose I prefer meeting the seller in person to verify everything before making a call. But honestly, it probably isn't worth getting a card like that for your current processor. Not unless you are planning to upgrade your motherboard and CPU very soon.

An okay GPU for this build—you won't be disappointed, I suppose. Just make sure you get the 216sp version instead of the 192sp one.

Jamie Adams9 said:I put it in my other machine and everything works fine, but I'm wondering if anyone else who bought from them had similar issues—what can I actually expect here?😍

I don't really know what you can expect—it could go either way, I guess. Ideally, they should just swap it out or give you a credit for the amount on your receipt. If they refuse, maybe look into filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. If they are a legitimate business, there shouldn't be any trouble.

Raising snails—say, followed by strawberry cultivation (you might want to check if there's still an open line of credit available through the Federal Reserve; you could secure enough to cover all your greenhouse materials)—isn't particularly demanding, I suppose. Or, one could simply plant vegetables for personal use.
Austin Roberts15 said:I have read through quite a few of these posts—though I suppose the more I read, the less I actually understand. This rig is mostly intended for sports titles (like >, >, or >), general web browsing, and downloading or streaming movies.
I found a decent deal on an MBO MSI K9A2 CF-F, AM2+ + PHEN motherboard. It’s at Technomax (using some points from my American Express), paired with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750,
Could someone please tell me if a Gigabyte Radeon HD 4650 1GB, DDR2, 128-bit card would be a good fit? My monitor is currently a 17-inch, and I don't plan on upgrading that anytime soon—the power supply should be fine as well.

How much money were you planning on spending?
Charles Brown said:Which power supply are we talking about? I bought mine pre-installed with the case... Is there actually a way for me to verify this myself?

Just open up the case and check the sticker on the PSU—tell me the brand and the wattage (xxxW).
driftinggull13 said:It’s about $990. Is he crazy? Well, I suppose if he just wanted to test out the new 😕Riddick
, everything seems to run fine—though I guess it's hard to say if that's actually due to the card itself...

In that case, it isn't a total disaster. For an extra $150, you could have grabbed a 250 GTS 1GB, and moving up from 512MB is always $307a step in the right direction. Usually, when some salesperson tries to push a specific model on a customer, it turns out to be a bit of a rip-off—assuming you don't know any better, of course. The card itself isn't necessarily bad; the real issue is just that there are newer versions available—even if they are running on the exact same chip.
driftinggull13 said:Picked up a 9800 GT with 1 GB of memory—hopefully I didn't get ripped off... I just took the word of some guy at the local Best Buy.

Whether it was actually a good deal depends entirely on what you shelled out for it. I guess you should tell us the price?
Douglas Patel98 said:but I think the specs listed in the driver software say it's an HD 3400...
it has: Video RAM: 1.0 GB
some kind of pixel shader 3.0
vertex shader: 3.0

well... since I only got this card on a trial basis, I'm wondering what its actual value might be?

What kind of monitor are you running? It’s hardly anything to play games on—as Kyle Sanchez4 would say—and if you're looking for gaming performance, anything under a 4670 or 9600gso isn't even worth considering.

And once again, we’re left with that bitter aftertaste following the race... just when things were finally getting interesting, we get hit with an interruption—as if we weren't already waiting on nothing more than cars spinning off or reshuffled positions. I’m sitting here feeling a bit dizzy myself—spinning in circles, much like this whole situation—but really, it's just more nonsensical safety calls. I suppose one has to wonder what they expect rally drivers to think about in those moments?🤷
And now all that’s left is for the FIA to somehow figure out how to ban the double diffuser—then we can just hand Lewis Hamilton another victory on a silver platter... 😁😁😁.. I suppose I am just thinking out loud here... Brawn 🙏🙏🙏🙏
stormybadger8 said:The race is actually at 6 if you're going by current time😉

but tomorrow at this same time, it'll be 7😉

😕😕 well, according to our local time, it's 8... how can it be 7 right now?
It seems they’ve gone a bit overboard this time... 🙂 though, if anyone truly knows, perhaps they might actually pull off that long-awaited victory tomorrow—who knows 🙂! 🤷
Amanda Kelly said:It’s not quite that black and white. Those diffusers are definitely sitting in a gray area right now.
The teams using them took a gamble and it paid off. I’m not losing any sleep over it.
That said, it’s a massive headache when the rulebook is written so vaguely that everyone can interpret it differently.

I realize it’s not simple. Which is exactly why the rules need refining; they shouldn't be open to these kinds of double meanings, and there’s really no point in penalizing teams for building a car that strictly follows the current rulebook. I don't feel sorry for anyone either—even though I'm a Ferrari supporter, I actually enjoy seeing the deck get shuffled a bit... if only to keep things unpredictable.
It would be nice to see things shake up a little... and honestly, I don't see any reason why those diffusers should be banned if they were built strictly by the book. It seems to me the rules themselves are the issue here, not the diffusers. If three teams managed to pull that off, then everyone else could have too—but instead, they chose a different path last time (due to some questionable decisions at 🙂), and now they’re whining because someone else actually has a faster car. If they want to complain, they should just design a similar diffuser and get it approved. They simply won't admit the truth: our cars are slower than theirs, plain and simple. We should be trying to catch them on the track, not running to court to beg for a ban. That’s just pathetic—it turns the Formula 1 courtroom into the main event, rather than letting the racing, the skill, and the innovation take center stage.

I need a graphics card in the $600 range—$233(PCI-E x16, DDR3)
I am leaning toward one of these

I'll be shopping at Micro Center, HG junk, or Newegg

Well, wiredmarlin5, I told you a few posts back: 9600GT!
swiftnomad12 said:👍Thanks for the link, here we go:

Intel Pentium 4
Core Voltage 1.382 V
Motherboard: AA8 (Intel 925 x - ICH6R) from Abit.com,
Graphics card: PCI Express...

So, I suppose I actually got it right the first time.😁

Eto, let me know if you need anything else...

It comes down to an ATI 4670 or an Nvidia 9600gso. The latter is slightly better, I guess... while the ATI is a bit cheaper... either way, you won't really regret the choice.
swiftnomad12 said:I'll run some software later today to verify whether it's AGP or PCI Express, then I'll get back to you so we can figure out a proper recommendation... 🤷I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to all this tech stuff... and I think I mentioned earlier that it's PCI...

Well, just let us know which motherboard you have—the exact model. That should make things much easier. You can just use a little utility called CPU-Z to find out. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
placidcanyon2 said:It’s likely an AGP slot—if that's the case, you might have to settle for an X1650GT AGP.

But he did mention PCI... so I suppose that means it's an Express card... or maybe not?
swiftnomad12 said:Hey,

Pentium 4 CPU

I have no clue what the power supply is—that link from the original post seems to be dead🙂—but it was replaced about a year ago... current GPU is an Nvidia Geforce 6600 (PCI)... the new Tomb Raider Underworld keeps stuttering.... maybe a new graphics card would fix the issue? Any recommendations for something under $200? I know, it's an old bucket, but what can you do...🤷

Thanks in advance!

An ATI 4670 might work, though honestly, it probably isn't worth the investment for this specific build. And it wouldn't hurt to throw in another stick of RAM while you're at it...
