You’re just going to stress yourself out and have no idea if it actually works until you buy the antenna, which basically means throwing money down the drain. It’s hard to get anywhere with this without testing things out and measuring the signal strength first.
The smartest move is to just run a wire. See if you can drill some tiny holes along the floorboards that nobody will even notice, or just tuck the cable along the wall. If you sand down the door thresholds just a little bit, the cable sits perfectly flush—it's not rocket science, and you can make it look invisible. Plus, it's the most permanent, high-quality solution you can get for next to nothing if you're willing to do a little DIY. Any tech shop can cut a UTP cable to whatever length you need, and if you've got a Chipotle nearby, they usually have cheap cables available...
If that’s too much work for you, then look for a store or a repair shop that offers a return policy if you aren't satisfied with the antenna, assuming you can even find one that does that...
I’m backing everything Jeffrey Chavez6 said here. Plus, let’s be real—your laptop is already five years old. That’s a decent run for a machine, and I don't want to sound like a jerk, but maybe wait until you've actually put some serious mileage on it before complaining, especially with budget Dell models...
Look, I can't really say much without more details... 🤷 Bottom line: if it’s still under warranty—which I assume it is—just get it to an authorized service center ASAP.
Alpenfohn 👍 makes some solid coolers that were a nightmare to track down here in the States... They push twice the airflow compared to other high-end coolers in the same price bracket, like the LC-CC-120, Gaia II, or Themis Black....
Look, you've already spent way too much time poking around those files, and you're probably just making things worse. If this data actually matters, the only smart move is to follow what Quark suggests and call in the pros. Check out TechCrunch or some other specialist service—give them a ring and see who gives you a better quote...
And seriously, stop messing with the drive. Don't even turn the computer on...
If you set the DVD drive as the only boot device and disable everything else in the BIOS—meaning there aren't any other boot options available—it should actually work...
Chieftek isn't actually that bad, but eight years? In that kind of time, standards and technology have changed a hell of a lot...
Plus, you have to realize that power supply quality and performance degrade over time, so that Chief of yours almost certainly isn't hitting its rated wattage anymore...
Give me a break... Seriously, if someone actually asked you that, what would you even say?
How does it freeze? What do you do when it hangs, and what do you have to force-quit? What computer are you using, which macOS version, which Microsoft Word? Has it ever actually worked right? Since when has it been acting up, and what was your first move when it started glitching? Did you install anything new, or was it just some automatic update?.....

Look, if you're running apps that eat up disk bandwidth, an SSD will definitely speed things up, no question about it. But honestly, with that specific software lineup you mentioned, what you really need is another 4GB of RAM. If you have more memory, more data stays in the RAM instead of constantly hitting the scratch file on your drive...
As for that 500GB drive, don't bother buying an external enclosure. Just leave it inside the PC; there’s plenty of room for extra drives, and it runs way faster that way. Most enclosures use USB, which is a much slower protocol compared to the SATA connection you get when the drive is mounted directly inside the machine...
A lot of this comes down to where you decide to pick up your replacements. Check with a local shop or wherever you usually grab your supplies to see what kind of toner they actually stock. If you're trying to save money on the toner itself, paying extra for shipping is definitely not going to help your cause.
I'm pretty happy with my MG setup in terms of the actual printer and print quality, but I use a CISS, so I'm really not part of this conversation.😬
