Dude, where's my car? (2009) in Movies ·
Not really feeling it. It was okay, I guess, but honestly, one of the weaker films from that studio. That last one with Paul Rudd was way better. Elite Model Management. Such a fun movie.
coppermarlin81 said:It's all good. You said what you said, and I said what I said before that. That’s why this platform is awesome—we get to actually talk. I'll just touch on the album comments. Man, The Black Keys are just great because they have those catchy melodies that lift me out of this depressing world of repression and heavy vibes. To me, the lyrics are right at a high school level, which is why I love them; they just click. I don't know, tell me what you think. Actually, don't bother. It's not like I'm going to go to war for The Black Keys.

Nah, no worries, we're good. I respect everyone's take. I was stuck in religion class, damn it.

The lyrics are solid and smart. Like, high school seniors kind of vibe. You don't need anything more complex to express what you feel. And the concept? It's killer. It's a full-on conceptual album, period. Is it just me, or is it incredible that The Black Keys put together a conceptual punk-rock/indie record about an individual living in some fascist, theocratic state, all while using such infectious melodies? 👋
First off, I don't really care if you're actually reading this or not; I only included that quote to make it clear that the lyrics are meant to be ironic. Second, nobody goes to Catholic school or religious ed because they actually want to—you're just a kid doing what your parents tell you to do. Third, yeah, that sentence was kind of lame, but whatever, the guy is a legend. Fourth, honestly, what's the big deal? Why wouldn't I? Please, explain that to me. For me, *The Boody the Blood the Machine* is the only truly great album by The Black Keys, mostly because the songwriting hits so hard. It might not have a massive hit like "No Culture Icons," but as a complete album, the concept makes it better than anything else they've put out.

No need to overthink it:

Pitchfork: Before I'd ever heard that this record was about a fascist Christian state, I'd heard songs like " Returning to The Fold as...it's got a sarcastic tone to it, but it's an honest approach to religion. Is your own religious experience informing these songs?

Hutch Harris: It's more like my background. Kathy and i both grew up going to Catholic church and going to Catholic schools. I followed for a while, at least, but I fell hard out of it. To me, that song is a lot about...I don't hate religion, I try not to hate religion. I hate the terrible things that religion makes people do, and I hate the greed that comes from it. But I'd like to believe there are people who are good, i know There ara good Christians and good People fra every Faith Who Just Want what's Best for humanity. I wish that I myself did have faith in God, that I had a religion, sometimes. But not always.
You think it's anti-religious?
I’m honestly just scrolling through everything without any filter at all—total pig behavior on my part.

Man, I posted that on the NBA thread and it redirected me here 🤷 before I could even realize my mistake and edit it... been having a rough few days lately, honestly...
Looks like Toronto really has a plan to ditch all the Americans on the roster and just play with Europeans. Dirty Canadians! 🤣
Tyler Howard46 said:Don't blame me if you don't keep track of every single person showing up!
My sister bought her student ticket before I could get mine!$83Everyone knew about Kraftwerk, Franz Ferdinand, Moby, that one metal band, and I can't even remember what else.
Pretty much, we all saw this coming.
I don't really feel like grinding through this thread right now, and I'm not trying to be difficult by not confirming everything with more posts.

What if you only dig Moby out of that whole lineup? Honestly, some people might think that's a small list, but it's not like all those bands sound the same anyway.
By the way, I never said you were short. 🤷
Whether you're talking about deadlines or not, there's always someone on this forum acting way too high and mighty 😍 but honestly, that’s fine. The real issue is the people who take these debates way too seriously and end up foaming at the mouth 🤷
They should probably ban this festival just because it produces an unprecedented amount of pure rage among everyone on this forum.

Man, damn, I totally forgot that's just the baseline state here. 🙄 🤣
Tyler Howard46 said:$83 isn't that way too much money to drop just two days before the festival when you've barely seen one band you actually like?
man, shoot yourself in the foot then🙂

Man, seriously, it's not that much to me. I grabbed my ticket the second they announced Kraftwerk was playing. But I guess for some people, it is. Btw, the ticket was only $83 back when we only knew about Kraftwerk and maybe one other act; the rest of the lineup kept getting revealed as the price climbed.
The real issue is this fest hasn't really found its identity yet compared to the big ones. When you buy a ticket for Coachella, you know exactly what kind of vibe to expect, but with the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, you're basically flying blind. Last year they had Nick Cave and a bunch of world music stuff, so I ended up selling my ticket since I bought it without knowing the full lineup. That's the downside of a "something for everyone" type of festival.

I don't know, I'm just over here soaking it all in and collecting (other people's😢) opinions.

Man, that's what I'm saying. Read it again.
Susan Clark10 said:Oh man, Adam Moore😁

Alright, let's reset here:

I put FF in the "bad album" category (or "bad current third album," whatever you want to call it) because I wanted to emphasize that more than the fact they're current. It was my counterpoint to why the festival turnout wasn't higher.

I put Art Brut, YYY, and Moby in the "current" category since they are, but I can't really judge their albums since I haven't listened to them—plus they don't really fit in with the rock stuff, so I couldn't slot them elsewhere.😁

Honestly, I have zero clue who N.E.R.D. and Pharrell are and I'm not really interested; I've just learned through this forum that they're some rappers.👍
I'm glad they're busy working, but that's still not enough reason for people to flock to festivals just for them.
Or do you think they're actually more popular than Depeche Mode? 🤷

Don't "oh man" me, Adam Moore, you know how I am!

😉

We totally misunderstood each other; I wasn't questioning why you singled those ones out as current and others weren't, I was just looking for an explanation.

I don't think the festival flopped because the names were outdated or the lineup was weak; I think it was the format itself. I'm pretty sure Lily Allen could sell out a venue like Madison Square Garden on her own (and Tricky definitely could, maybe even YYY), and Moby would probably sell out an arena or at least a major stadium. But with a festival setup, it’s hard to get people to drop all that cash if they only care about one single act. Maybe it's because the bands aren't genre-specific; they just pick whoever is available, so they aren't targeting a specific crowd, which makes ticket sales tank. Who knows, just my two cents, but the lineup looked pretty solid on paper.
First off, are you blind? You totally missed that this was just a typo; I clearly wrote it correctly later in the sentence 😛
Second, you mentioned that yyy, Moby, and art brut are relevant right now, but that FF only has a comma album.
Third, N.E.R.D. dropped an album last year, and Pharrell is out there working harder than anyone else—if anyone is actually relevant, it’s him 🤷
Steven Hernandez9 said:or is that teenage righteous fury still burning way too hot in your chest?

that's what they say to idiots.

btw how is Miss L claiming Moby is more relevant than FF or N.E.R.D.? He wasn't even relevant back when Play launched, for crying out loud (don't get me wrong, I love Play).
Is it just me, or did she seem totally obsessed with him? Like, at that last concert, she was all over him—one girl grabbing the mic, another leaning over the synth, and one absolutely tearing up the drums 🤣 man, it was such a blast.
John Young89 said:Honestly, it felt pretty stupid that he played that one song twice. I don't get why he even did that when the guy has seven albums full of killer tracks that he luckily skipped over last night. Looking back, the setlist was kind of a mess. And those stage movements? It almost looked like he was dealing with early-onset Huntington’s or something—it felt a bit much for me.

Playing Ace of Spades is always a win. You could have 300 albums and 800 songs, but Ace of Spades is still gonna beat everything else you've ever written.🙂
urbannomad30 said:but he wasn't even wasted, the guy actually sobered up right there on stage 😁

I was already buzzed after three drinks, then I just sat by the lake listening to how boring they were 🙄
After just two songs, Brooklyn totally killed it and played Ace of Spades!
Quickly now:
art brut ******************* :S :S🙏 🙏 :S:Ss**** and so on
editors 🤮
nerd ***1/2
Brooklyn ****

And honestly, screw Sergeant Garcia—he played for two and a half hours, completely trashed the schedule, and because of him, I missed Moby. It’s not even like I’m heartbroken over missing that bald guy, but reggae/ska bands shouldn't be on my radar for a single second, let alone for two and a half hours. Get outta here!
