Looney Tunes: Back in Action in Movies ·
Honestly, Chuck Jones is my absolute favorite. Even when I was just seven years old, I could tell his cartoons hit different, long before I even cared about directors or whatever 😬

Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
Does anyone know if there’s a clinic over in the Vrbnik area? The folks at the health center near Capitol Hill told me one exists, but they couldn't give me a specific address. I've been scouring the web but am coming up empty. If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be awesome!

I’m not really looking to debate the musical quality of the bands you listed, and honestly, even when it comes to Nirvana, I think "quality" is just totally subjective. To me, there are way more great bands popping up today simply because the whole way music is produced and distributed has shifted so much. Plus, once you move past a certain decade, all those "small" bands tend to just slip through the cracks and vanish. I mean, who even remembers Built to Spill or Olivia Tremor Control anymore? Most of those big indie names will probably face the same fate—in ten years, maybe only people who lived through the 🤷
will even know they existed.

Kenneth Williams60 said:Man, music is such a deep rabbit hole... personally, I'm not buying the idea that the 90s beat out the last decade. Back in the 90s, you had R.E.M. and U2—bands that carried over from the 80s—and honestly, not everything they put out was gold. Guns N' Roses had one killer album, then you had the Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Skunk Anansie, and The Prodigy with that amazing "Fat of the Land"... That’s basically all I can recall (not counting the great bands that dropped their first big hit in 1999), whereas in the last 10 years, at least 50 solid bands and singer-songwriters have popped up... I don't know, it's subjective, but I mostly remember the 90s for the boy band craze and hits like "Coco Jumbo", "Captain Jack", "Barbie Girl", and "Macarena"... we haven't seen that again 😱

Man, there was so much good music in the 90s. I love that era too, but just look at the lineup: Pavement, Björk, Spiritualized, Massive Attack, Aphex Twin, Tricky, Neutral Milk Hotel, Jeff Buckley, Mogwai, Tortoise, Sonic Youth, Beta Band, Modest Mouse, Yo La Tengo, Stereolab, Mercury Rev, Slint, Flaming Lips, Dr. Octagon, Daft Punk, Blur, Weezer, Portishead, Jesus Lizard, PJ Harvey, Godspeed!, Wu-Tang Clan, Beastie Boys, DJ Shadow, Public Enemy, Air, Wilco, Belle & Sebastian, Guided by Voices, My Bloody Valentine, and finally, freaking Nirvana. You want more?
Word on the street is Adrian Sherwood is joining the lineup. I haven't really been keeping up with his recent stuff, but "Never Trust a Hippie" was such a vibe, so I'm definitely stoked for this one.

I'd pull a move like a rockstar and demand everyone show up wearing bright floral colors, then blast TO 😠 just to show those hypocrites what they did to me at my funeral. GO AHEAD AND CRY, YOU PIGS :2up:

Man, you just reminded me how Jon Bon Jovi once said he’s never seen anything as ridiculous as the funeral of some big-shot CEO...

Man, looking back at recent stuff, I grabbed 1999 from the magnolia era. I picked up being john malkovich, Fight Club, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, American Beauty, The Straight Story, Topsy Turvy, The Virgin Suicides, Rushmore, Man on the Moon, Todo Sobre Mi Madre, and Ghost Dog. Plus a few silly ones I love anyway—Sleepy Hollow, The Mummy, Dogma, and American Pie😉
I know this might make someone's day—Editors are officially confirmed.

Ashley Young4 Asks:
Alright, so how should a movie about this actually look? MilkaBut what if we skip the "propaganda" angle? I mean, how do you even make a movie about Harvey Milk that actually holds artistic weight without it feeling like a lecture?

It’s really more about his inner world—how he actually processed everything and fought those personal battles. It's all those tiny, quiet moments that truly make up our lives.
Get this—what really bugs me about the gay community is that there’s this huge feeling that being gay is their entire identity. Like, the fact that they're into men is the only thing that defines them. As if being gay is the whole point of their existence and the absolute core of who they are, which honestly just seems incredibly stupid to me.
I personally know a few gay guys and I’ve never really gotten that vibe—like they're just "gay." One is a total cinephile, another lives for politics and traveling, one's a huge foodie, and another is obsessed with sports. At the end of the day, they're just people, just like the rest of us.

Honestly, instead of showing that gay people are just regular folks with their own hobbies, favorite foods, and music tastes, activists tend to make sexual orientation their entire identity. They push for equality by highlighting how different they are rather than focusing on common ground, which—from a political standpoint—is just a really ineffective strategy.

Look, I’m not saying there's anything wrong with someone standing in the middle of Times Square and shouting that they're gay, but I just don't see the point. The whole idea is supposed to be about that guy standing there making a scene so everyone goes, "Oh, look, he's gay." But at the end of the day, he's a human being first, and that's how he should have been portrayed in the movie.

Just to be clear, I think the movie is actually great. Penn is super convincing, Franco is awesome, and Gus Van Sant’s directing is top-notch. At the same time, I totally get where Jerry Martin19 is coming from—I agree that the film leans a bit too hard into propaganda. It doesn't personally bother me, though; I just don't see the point in all that.

@ Ashley Young4: activism is activism, but making a movie about it? That’s just propaganda. If a film's whole goal is to flip some bigoted person into a tolerant one, it’s propaganda through and through—even if you think the outcome is a good thing (though "good" really depends on which side of the fence you're on). Jerry Martin19 makes a fair point, though: propaganda movies, regardless of the message, rarely hit the same artistic heights as films without an agenda. We can debate that all day, but I get why he's feeling let down.

Honestly, I think they portrayed Harvey Milk as this totally Machiavellian political shark. 🤷The only thing that set him apart from the other political vultures was that he claimed to be fighting for a "good cause." He wasn't out there fighting for universal equality; he was specifically focused on gay rights—everyone else already had their seat at the table, so he didn't bother with them.
btw, liberals use propaganda just as much as conservatives do, especially here in the States.
It’s pretty naive to expect anything less than propaganda from a group that spent years being oppressed and powerless, only to finally get their hands on some actual leverage. I mean, obviously you can see that the gay community is still fighting for full equality and will use every tool available to win. And Hollywood, acting as one of the main strongholds of American liberalism, is more than happy to back them up—in fact, Hollywood basically armed them. At the end of the day, I don't think they'll win this fight through Pride parades or movies like this, but hey, what do I know...
