I think Still has been overdoing it lately with the excess—it’s reached a point where people just can't take it anymore... it's a shame.
They were quite distant originally, starting out as a duo before this later addition joined the fold... now Octopus has even more room to make noise, but honestly, I couldn't care less about that—I'm just gutted that Still is gone...

Absolute lunatics—Patton told them Fantomas Melvins Big Band is playing in Chicago on 4/17, and these idiots realized they have exactly two days off to swing through St. Louis first before heading over to Chicago to catch the show... They basically left those two days open so we could get to New York City without any hassle—instead, we’re looking at burning through a massive amount of dollars on flights from Germany to Chicago and then from Milwaukee to New York City.
They wanted to play at KUT, but the venue was fully booked that night—so they asked me to track down another spot in the city. One condition, though: the place had to have a loud enough sound system. 😈
In case nobody remembers, Subtitle is that six-foot-plus, skinny Black guy who played at the venue earlier that same evening alongside Mars Volta and Radiohead. Personally? He was far superior to them both... an absolute genius. 🙏
Like I said before—half the standards are brilliant, while the other half feels a bit too sugary... still, this is my favorite from their last three albums, and I’ve finally managed to wrap my head around that pretentious sound of theirs... damn, I'm getting old 😳
Relatives is about as consistent as those last three Tortoise albums—half the record is great, while the other half feels just as lackluster as that Tortoise stuff mentioned above... But since our good friend and the best drummer in New York (who moved out of Chicago) is joining us today, I’m betting the good half will carry the day...

Wilderness couldn't make it into the country through the meatpacking district—so I told them to head toward the hills instead. But then they got screwed by the Canadians at the border they'd just let them cross fifteen minutes earlier... I got a message saying they were being searched and that they're literally just waiting for the K9 units to arrive 😳 They finally let them go, and now they’re making their way toward the hills... should be there by 10...

KSET is easily the best campus venue in this part of the country—there's really no debate there—but at its core, KSET remains a student club. Even though I’ve spent the last decade trying to push it toward becoming something more than just your "average" student organization, it’s never going to happen, nor should it... That’s why we need to focus on programming that actually serves the majority of our members. We should be prioritizing events geared toward social fun; for me, concerts like this one are just the exception that proves the rule...
What do you mean dead? Those venues used to host massive shows—it was almost a tragedy they didn't pull off even bigger things back in April... Honestly, it feels like there's a decent concert happening there at least once a month now. 🙂

Otherwise, the community hall is acoustically quite forgiving; those vaulted ceilings kill the vertical reflections, while the wood and curtains handle the horizontal ones. You can easily pull off good sound in there...
As for the loft, they were using Martin Audio speakers—first time hearing them, and they are genuinely excellent. They have such a wide dispersion that just two cabinets per side should cover the whole room perfectly. My only gripe: why weren't they raised another six inches when there was clearly the space? As it stood, the crowd ended up muffling the mids, which likely explains why the volume felt low... And honestly, adding one more mid-high cabinet per side wouldn't hurt—just to have some extra headroom.
Tickets should be hitting the shelves today at the local indie venue and that travel agency near the downtown university bookstore...
And Nina hasn't dropped the new album yet—that’s the whole reason she’s doing this short solo run. Once the record is actually out, then we'll see the full tour.

What he wrote applies specifically if they're flying all the way from America to New York... usually, when they're in Belgium, they set up a very specific itinerary before heading out on tour, so in those cases, there aren't any extra demands... In any case, even if they don't make it here by next week, they're definitely hitting the European tour by summer...
