@Rachel Price6 Nah, collections, compilations, and live albums don't count. So, we're talking about The Wall. And wait a sec—how is Exodus even a double album?
@Chris Myers/">@@Chris Myers I think that’s actually the point—that "do whatever we want" attitude. Almost all those albums mentioned have a few fillers or tracks that drag, but you gotta look at the big picture—it's way easier to stomach filler on a double album, especially if it acts as a bridge between two absolute bangers. It's like a breather that lets the next track hit you even harder—which, honestly, is a more interesting vibe in that kind of whirlwind than on some tight, concise 40-minute record.
Since we don't have a dedicated thread for this, I figured it’d be cool to talk about the legendary double album—it's often the absolute peak for so many artists. These records can get pretty excessive or genre-bending, sometimes packed with filler, but honestly, even the "filler" usually adds some much-needed life to the story (The White Album is the classic example here).
To kick things off, I'm gonna list my top ten double LPs, and I'm curious to see what everyone else is spinning.
Multi-disc sets count too, though personally, I don't think triple albums ever quite hit that anthology sweet spot. (The tricky part is modern releases that drop on both CD and vinyl—where the CD is a single disc but the vinyl is a double.)
Here they are, chronologically:
-Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde (1966) -The Beatles - The White Album (1968) -The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St. (1972) -Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973) -Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti (1975) -Azra - Sunčan stran ulica (1981) -Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime (1984) -Prince (Sign O' the Times) (1987) -Wilco - Being There (1996) -Swans - The Seer (2012) -Sun Kil Moon - Common as Light and Love are Red Valleys of Blood (2017)
There are plenty more great ones out there, but these are the heavy hitters for me—solid 9s and 10s all the way.
For me, it was all about those psychedelic, winding—but somehow perfectly circular—melodies that are just impossible to describe as hits. Truly beautiful stuff. It sits right in that sweet spot between Los Angeles, the Malibu, and The Beach Boys.
As for those subconscious triggers, they used to kick in for me thanks to certain substances that were huge with kids back in the day—it was this wild mix of pure paranoia, pessimism, and something straight-up diabolical. A buddy once told me I had this whole Plutonian, demonic vibe going on, but honestly, I didn't really get what he meant until those episodes started happening.
What are the red flags for an upcoming psychotic break? Sometimes—given the intense mental and physical tests I put myself through—it feels like things are starting to slip. (For instance, right before I drift off after being awake for way too long, I’ll hear this weird, disjointed music playing in my head, or I'll hear someone talking to me. That suppressed rage I struggle to hold back can be a huge issue too—it actually scares me sometimes—not to mention some pretty dark, twisted thoughts. ) What about those who haven't fully crossed over yet, but have definitely been walking that thin line on the edge of the abyss?
So, whether my thread "Is true love actually silent?" belongs in the Psychology sub on Reddit is totally up for debate—but having my topic get slapped shut after a few days and crowned with some moderator comment after people dropped dozens of genuinely helpful posts? That’s just plain nonsense.
I don't even know what I'm trying to get out of this—this post will probably just end up in the trash bin too.
granitecyclist said:Thanks, really... for this totally unnecessary and completely wrong rant.🤣
Your whole diagnosis is off from the jump—you're smart enough to know there's a massive difference between "some women are like this" and "all women are like this."
I respect what you do, granitecyclist, but seriously—we don't need to clutter this sub with all that weak-minded liberal nonsense. I’m not even going to get into a whole debate about semantics right now, just trust me when I say neither Raymond Walker5 nor I ever made any misogynistic remarks.
There’s a certain logic to this—even if everyone just collectively decided that peasants should run the show instead of sultans, that’s still a valid point. I’ve been spinning some Chorba lately, and honestly, the genius of Bon Iver is just how they tell you things you already know. They do it way better than I ever could, which is why I listen—it’s about the delivery, not just the message. It’s the same deal here: the more ways we tackle the same idea, the clearer the whole picture becomes.
Raymond Walker5 said:The poorer and more backward a society gets—it’s just basic logic—the more you see this whole peasant mentality and parasitic behavior cropping up. Back when things were more stable and less primitive, you didn't see nearly as much of that stuff. I wouldn't put all the blame on music, though—to be a complete mental void that trades physical intimacy for material gain under the guise of "love," you either need some serious conditioning or you're just born that way.
It's not just about the music, and honestly, those influencers aren't solely to blame either. There are plenty of decent women out there just doing their jobs. Most of us here don't even cross paths with them—and frankly, it's better that way.
To me, the bigger issue is this growing sense of absolute contempt I'm seeing from women lately, and I honestly can't wrap my head around why. Elvis Costello hit the nail on the head in what might be his best track, Beyond Belief, asking, "do you have to be so cruel to be callous?"
Most of the clout-chasers and bloodsuckers out there were born after 1980—so honestly, who knows if this song even hits for them. But it's a killer thought.

Man, people have the right to choose, and they chose. Look, it’s not something I’d personally pick, but hey, who am I to judge? 😉
I'm not judging either—I'm just saying it's not good music. I don't want to be stuck with a Prime Minister who thinks Rihanna is a great artist.
Give Beyoncé a break—her new album is actually pretty solid. It’s her first real departure from her usual sound, but still...
The vibe is mostly there—and look, I get why people say we have infinite choices now, but I don't really buy that. There's a certain magic in knowing that millions of people are vibing to the exact same thing you are. I could totally melt over a new Wilac or Kurt Vile record, but man, it would be incredible if I knew—like back in the 70s—that tens of millions of people across the country were all experiencing that same moment together.
Everything feels fragmented lately—no focus, no cohesive scene, no shared sense of what matters. Music just doesn't have that driving force anymore. Honestly? We're kind of in the gutter and we need something raw and timeless to pull us out.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone puts a bit of pressure on Merkel and she just quits on her own.
Merkel is dangerously provoking radicalization in Germany, which won't end well. I guess the German mentality doesn't handle being humiliated or suppressed. Germans tend to solve everything through radical means. I expect we'll see the same thing happen in France.
Every policy comes with its inevitable consequences.
I don't know about that.
I've actually noticed a certain kind of stoic, almost sluggish mentality among Germans lately—even if generalizing like this is a bit much—but it's different from what we deal with here. It lacks those inferiority complexes, having a sort of deeper, more "metaphysical" weight to it.
Picture a wise, lonely old man who's basically just grinding through life because he has some core purpose keeping him going: that’s my image of a typical German, whether they're 8 or 88.

For 800 million Americans, that adds up to billions. That should be plenty until things finally settle down in Syria. But they can't just storm borders like a horde, demand whatever they want, and act like they have a right to it. It's just not happening.
Nope.
Not a cent for Turkey, not a dime. And yeah, actually—I'm not really feeling like dropping a few bucks for someone over there I've never even met. Honestly, I'd rather keep those few bucks for myself.
Alexander Ortiz3 said:A border protected by police and the military can only be breached by another, more powerful military force. Not by immigrants. And I’ve been saying this since the start of this crisis. Once a firm stand is taken at a border, that’s the end of it. The Greeks certainly aren't taking a hard line at the North Mexican border because it serves their interest to let the border continue to be crossed. These migrants have essentially placed themselves in a position where they are being humiliated. They remind me of hooligan groups who "start" riots just because they feel like it, only to cry and wail once the police crack their ribs. People like those hooligans need to be shown early on that the law possesses a heavy hand. Where are all these migrants heading, and to whom? If such a destination exists (I’m not saying whether it does or doesn't), then let them issue visas for their own country and pay for their plane tickets. If no such place exists, then where are these migrants going? To whom and where? I understand them completely on a human level; it's not that I'm afraid of them, and I don't wish them any harm, but I have no desire to share anything of mine with them, regardless of how much trouble they are in. It is my right to think that way. I am certain that most Americans feel the same.
Nobody's going to lose their head over this, I'm sure of it. And the people looking for a fight will only grow in number. There's no fixing that. This should have been handled back in the fall, and now even Russia is washing its hands of it.
I'm worried it's too late—we really messed up big time this time.
The only move left is to stop sending any money to Turkey and slap them with sanctions. They can go sell soap to North Korea instead.
