Here’s a fresh dilemma for an old debate. Fellow Members of Congress, the ball is in your court. Please, someone just fix this daylight saving nonsense once and for all.
We all know exactly which genius came up with the whole "daylight saving time" concept, but what really worries me is when—in this modern age where there’s absolutely zero need for it—someone actually "smart" decides to bring back "sunny weather" adjustments.
Since this morning, even my sundial isn't behaving. According to the sun, noon doesn't hit until 1 PM!
Tourists end up having to wake up an hour earlier just to grab breakfast. They get pushed off the beach an hour early for dinner. They get ushered off their patio tables an hour too soon by some staff shouting, "It's midnight, time for bed!" when, according to the sun, it's barely 11 PM.
I was watching a documentary on TV yesterday about a farmer who had to spend an entire week recalibrating his cows' schedules to match this "new time."
I managed to adjust my own twelve clocks, but I’m genuinely concerned about how we’re going to sync up all the sundials in our historic town squares.
And most of all, I worry about our early risers tomorrow. How are they supposed to head to work an hour earlier?
Oh, Lisa Hernandez95, where did you find this photo? A buddy of mine just sent it over from New York City. I’m thinking it might be from one of those Smile ads. Honestly, though, that isn't me in the picture. I'm much better looking than that.😉

Since this morning, even the sun doesn't seem to be keeping time correctly. It feels like high noon isn't hitting until 1:00 PM!😠
Think about the tourists—they have to drag themselves out of bed an hour earlier just to catch breakfast. They get ushered off the beach an hour too early for dinner. They get kicked off their patio tables by some waiter shouting, "It's midnight, time for bed!" when, according to the sun, it's barely eleven.
I saw a clip on the news yesterday of a farmer having to spend an entire week adjusting his cows' routine to account for the "new time."
I managed to adjust my own internal clock by twelve hours, but I worry about how we'll sync up the sundials in our historic town squares.
And honestly, my biggest concern is those early birds heading into work tomorrow. How are they supposed to handle starting an hour earlier?😕 🤷 ☕
How are they going to feel? 🙄
Anyway, friends, let me remind you what I wrote about this a while back: 🤣 When is this whole "spring forward, fall back" mess finally going to end? I don't know. But I think we're well past the point of needing it.🙄
Here we go again! I was reading somewhere that the European Union is actually proposing to scrap this whole stupid, pointless ritual.👎
Just yesterday, I had to manually wind my clocks forward by fourteen damn hours. On top of that, you’ve got two devices that adjust themselves via radio signals, then there's my computer, which is smart enough to handle the change on its own, and finally my car radio, which always keeps the real time: when the sun hits high noon exactly in the south.👍
I can't quite make sense of that one. It looks like a typo or maybe just some random characters. If you were trying to get a point across or share a thought, could you try typing it out again? I'm all ears. kaže: I’ve heard that walnut trees can be pretty aggressive with their neighbors, almost like they're actively sabotaging everything around them. It’s a weird phenomenon, but under my own walnut tree, everything seems to be thriving like crazy. There aren't many exceptions, though—my Linden tree is struggling a bit, just kind of lagging behind while everything else picks up speed. 🤷
I know the one you mean. It’s that old nursery rhyme about "Sleeping Little Zayn," where the kid falls asleep under the walnut tree and just... never wakes up. It’s a dark little tune, isn't it? But honestly, what’s actually bothering me here isn't the ghost story—it’s how this whole situation is messing with my gardening. My entire horticulture setup is being thrown into total disarray because of this.😉
Hey there, fellow horticulturists, I’ve got a bit of a silly question for you: In my yard, I have a hedge made up of Japanese Privet. Just about a meter away from that, I have three Escalonia "Donard Seedling" plants planted.
Lately, I’ve noticed the privet is starting to wilt right in the specific spot where those Escalonia are located. Is there any kind of cause-and-effect relationship going on here? To put it plainly, could the Escalonia be negatively impacting the growth of the privet?

Thanks to whoever decided to merge my posts from this year with my posts from last year.🙏
This is a serious topic. And if someone isn't taking it seriously—well, they’re just being unserious.😉
A question for AJ: You haven't been around here lately, and I haven't seen you on VZ5. Are you feeling under the weather? Or maybe you just didn't like my response?😍

I personally love this time of year—having these long, drawn-out days is the best part.😍
Oh, please! So you're telling me you actually enjoy waking up an hour earlier, heading into work an hour sooner, going to bed an hour earlier, and then repeating that whole cycle tomorrow? Just ask anyone else working hard out there, especially those folks in the hospitality or service industry, if they're really thrilled about it.😁
The day is longer, sure. And I love that too. But that has absolutely nothing to do with messing with the clocks. Think about it: how many millions of individual clocks do you have to manually reset those damn hands on? 🙂
We all know exactly which idiot came up with Daylight Saving Time, but what really worries me is when someone actually smart will step up in this modern era—since there’s absolutely no reason for it anymore—to bring back actual sunshine.
Since this morning, even my internal clock is completely out of sync. It feels like high noon isn't hitting until 1 PM!😠
Think about the tourists; they’re forced to roll out of bed an hour earlier just to grab breakfast. They get rushed off the beach an hour early for dinner. They get kicked off their patio tables by some staff member shouting, "It's midnight, time for bed!" when, according to the sun, it's barely 11 PM.
I was watching a news segment yesterday about a farmer who had to spend an entire week adjusting his cows' schedules just to deal with this "new time."
I managed to scramble through my own twelve-hour adjustment period, but I honestly worry about how we'll sync up all those old town square clocks in our historic downtown areas.
And most of all, I'm concerned about how our early risers are going to handle heading into work an hour earlier tomorrow.😕🤷☕ How are they even going to feel? 🙄
Jamie Rivera70 said:Well, during the summer, there’s still light at 9 PM. If we were following "standard" seasonal weather patterns, it would be dark by 8, and by 9, you'd be in total darkness.🙄
And that’s exactly where the issue lies, at least from the perspective of tourism and the hospitality industry. As an economist by trade, I don't see any actual cost savings here, not even within heavy industry. This was implemented by Capitalists simply to squeeze more productivity out of workers. It's definitely going to take a toll on our health, too. And as for how this affects livestock, I honestly don't think it's funny at all. Just ask any dairy farmer how they're dealing with these shifts.
Excerpt from the intro: Tourism takes a direct hit from this: We end up pushing our guests to sit down for dinner at seven, even though the beaches are still perfectly pleasant for catching some sunshine. By eight in the evening, the patio shows start. Who is actually going to convince a guest to head to an outdoor terrace when the sun is still hovering high above the horizon? And here's the icing on the cake: At midnight, when it's effectively only 11 PM, some random person starts yelling, "Turn off the music! Don't you realize it's midnight?!"
Jamie Rivera70 said:The days feel longer to me, so I'm fine with it. My internal clock isn't really feeling the shift.😁
That's nonsense. A day is always the same length, whether you look at it one way or another—it doesn't matter how the hands on your watch are positioned!😍>
On Sunday, the clocks are jumping from 2:00 to 3:00 AM. I’m curious to hear what you all think about this.
Here is my take: It is absolute nonsense!
The logic is flawed: On Sunday, the sun will hit its peak at 1:00 PM instead of the usual noon. Our biological clocks have been synced to the sun for millennia, not to some arbitrary invention of ours. It is certain that everyone will face consequences, even if we don't feel them immediately.
The tourism industry takes a direct hit from this too. We end up pushing our guests to sit down for dinner at 7:00 PM, even though the beaches are still perfectly pleasant for sunbathing. Then, outdoor patio programs start kicking off at 8:00 PM. Who is going to convince a guest to head to a terrace when the sun is still hovering high above the horizon? And here is the kicker: At midnight, when it is actually only 11:00 PM, some busybody starts yelling, "Turn that music off! Don't you realize it's midnight?!"
There was a piece in today's USA Today where a woman argued in favor of the change, claiming her two-year-old son naturally wakes up around 5:00 AM anyway.
One last question for the group: Does anyone actually know who decided to implement Daylight Saving Time, when it started, and what the original reasoning was?😍
