Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Replacing it is actually quite straightforward.
Provided you can track one down somewhere.

Then again, maybe a replacement isn't even necessary. Could it just be a buildup of dust clogging things up? Perhaps a simple cleaning would do the trick. Honestly, I’d say there's a fifty-fifty chance that's all it takes.

Your card's fan has officially given up the ghost.
Hitting 70 degrees just sitting there at idle is way too high.
The moment you put even a slight load on it, it climbs north of 90... and then—bam—total system freeze or an instant reboot.

From what I can tell, it works just fine.

It’s available for UNIX, too.

Give it another shot.

driftingbadger17 said:Sure. There are plenty of other operating systems out there if all you want to do is browse the web.
But if you're looking to install more robust software... you really need Windows.

What kind of "better" software are we talking about?

Your subforum doesn't exist. There is only the subforum dedicated to Maminj, Pilatus, and Maxim.

Exactly. They’ve basically cleared the track by trolling everyone else into submission. Though, I suppose Joe plays a smaller part in that particular chaos.
Is physical reality just an illusion? in Spirituality ·
Everything we perceive is essentially an illusion. Reality isn't actually the thing we think we're experiencing.
Take vision, for example. We only see a specific spectrum of colors—whatever our eyes are physically capable of picking up. From those limited signals, our brain constructs a coherent image. In truth, there is a massive portion of the spectrum that our eyes simply fail to register.
What we end up with is an effective illusion: a mental picture that doesn't actually align with objective reality.

You're the least of anyone's concerns on this subforum. Honestly, I’d go as far as to say you aren't even a problem at all.
Everyone knows which three or four usernames actually cause the trouble.

The Formula 1 subforum has grown incredibly dull.
There’s just no saving it anymore.

Larry Ortiz5 said:The temperatures you see in the BIOS are what matter most. It’s the most reliable source of truth, so you don't have to worry about software errors there. 😁 That said, if you haven't cleaned out the dust from your rig in a while, you might want to find some peace of mind by reapplying the thermal paste on the CPU. To be fair, the processor temps aren't actually that high right now, so you wouldn't need to swap the paste just because you decided to blow out the dust.

The issue here is that the processor isn't under any actual load while sitting in the BIOS. It's practically idling. We really need to see what those temperatures look like when the CPU is actually working.

Jonathan Wood5 said:After spending quite a bit of time tinkering with my PC, I thought everything was finally sorted out. Today, however, I ran into a snag. I'm running Windows 7. When I open a window—say, My Computer—and try to drag it left or right, only the frame moves, not the entire window content. It isn't a disaster, but I know for a fact that the whole image used to move with the frame. During my maintenance session, the only extra thing I installed was a Microsoft partition manager. I've already uninstalled it, but the issue persists.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get things back to the way they were?
Thanks.

This drove me absolutely insane.
And I ended up fixing it in the most ridiculous way possible.

First, I downloaded some random junk from the web that sets https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=us&ei=...indows&spell=1 to 1, put it in my startup folder... no luck.
Obviously, it was being reset to 0 before anything else could even run.

So, I settled on a workaround: I set up a new task in the Task Scheduler that runs a small program to force the "dragfullwindows" value in the registry back to 1. The trigger is user logon, and I added a one-minute delay.

It’s a stupid way to handle it, but it works.
I still have no clue why on earth that damn "dragfullwindow" setting keeps reverting to zero.
God bless Windows.

Benjamin King2, no offense intended, but how exactly are you calculating these values?
Do you just grab all the individual parts and add up the lowest prices you see on eBay?

In my opinion, whenever Benjamin King2 provides these estimates, you really need to tack on at least another $500$267 if we're talking about an entire desktop setup.

velvetbear16 said:I could use some help here. I'm not entirely sure if this is the right thread for this question, but I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction....
Basically, I want to know where I need to go or what settings I need to toggle so that when I log into Facebook on my laptop, it doesn't suggest all the different usernames of people who have used this computer before.
Any help would be appreciated.

That actually depends on which web browser you're using, rather than the OS itself. You'll need to find the specific setting and select "clear" on something similar.
Either you click "don't remember" the first time you type your info... or you look through the options for something like "clear forms." It’s something along those lines.
It has nothing to do with your operating system.

Larry Ortiz5 said:Could you be a bit more specific? What kind of hard drive are we talking about? And what's the processor? I'm guessing it might be an Intel Core i5-750 since I happen to own one myself.

It’s just a standard SATA3 hard drive. To be honest, I have no idea which brand it is, though I suspect it's a Seagate.
The CPU is an Intel Core i5-750 running at 2.66 GHz.
Used PC builds: What are they worth? in Desktops ·
What kind of price could I realistically expect for an i5 running at 2.66 GHz, paired with 4GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive, and an AMD Radeon HD 5570?

Larry Ortiz5 said:It might be an issue with the hard drive itself. You should check its "health" by downloading

http://crystalmark.info/software/Cry...o/index-e.html

Once you have it installed, just paste a screenshot here on the forum so we can see if there are any underlying issues with the drive.

Well, most likely this hard drive isn't exactly the healthiest piece of tech in the country, but the only error SMART is reporting is a reallocation sector count, which has hit three over the last six months.
It really shouldn't be acting up because of that.
Still, it feels somewhat nonsensical that it starts glitching while idling, yet remains perfectly stable when I'm actually working—no matter how demanding the task might be.
But fine, it's not exactly a catastrophe. In the worst-case scenario, I'll just call a local plumber to check for leaks in the basement.
