Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Rachel Hayes56 said:Toshiba is a solid laptop brand. I’ve personally never had any issues with them. 🤷
But after installing Windows 7, the card reader isn't working...
I'm sure there's a way to fix this, and I'd really love to try handling it myself so I don't have to bother anyone else.

Does it say anything else besides Toshiba? Any specific model numbers listed nearby?
Let's take this one step at a time so we can figure out exactly which model you're working with. 🙂

That would mean you have about 12 days left before you need to activate Windows.
No problem at all!

You'll need to install the card Reader driver... the one for Vista should work too.

Taylor Campbell4 said:Honestly, it’s wild how much faster my old setup feels—running Windows XP on an AMD Duron 1800 with just 500 MB of RAM—compared to Windows 7 on a dual-core 2.7 GHz processor with 4 GB of RAM. People love to tell me that having a "graphically rich and sophisticated system" is progress, even if it actually runs slower than XP. I'm currently using the RC version, but I doubt the W7 RTM will be much different. Just opening a folder can cause such a laggy, frustrating delay. It feels like I'm constantly having to troubleshoot and fix things.

Based on what you're describing, I'd say you probably ended up with a buggy or poorly optimized build of Windows 7. Issues like this aren't happening to everyone; they seem limited to just a handful of users out of thousands.

I honestly don't know; they'd have to drag me kicking and screaming back to Windows XP before I’d consider it. 🙂 Every time I sit down at an old machine running XP, my blood sugar probably spikes just from the nostalgia. Look, I appreciate the service it gave me over the years—it really was a workhorse—but once you've experienced the smoothness of Windows 7, there's no going back. Comparing the functionality of Windows 7 to XP isn't even worth my time because it's just not a fair fight...

Yeah. You honestly have to click through three different times, when they really could have just made it one or two clicks max.

Why don't you try this quick test just to see what happens? Open one of those "troublesome" images in Paint, go ahead and hit Resize (make sure you select Pixels), type in a new resolution, and save it. Then, just try opening it again with a double-click to see if it works fine.

dustyangler2 said:People were really tearing into Vista, but honestly, I thought it was perfectly fine once Service Pack 1 rolled out! It might have been a bit of a resource hog, but overall, I didn't have any complaints. After the service pack, Vista felt much more stable, and that was plenty for me! It boots up faster, looks nicer (depending on your taste), and doesn't eat through resources quite as fast!

See, you just listed several great reasons why making the jump from Vista to Windows 7 is worth it... I mean, why would anyone stick with Vista when it boots slower, "looks worse," and hogs system resources like crazy? By the way, I used Vista for about two years, but ever since I switched over to Windows 7, it feels like I upgraded my laptop with a nitro boost and 6GB of RAM...

Brenda Cooper3 said:So, let me get this straight—is there actually any abuse at the end or what? 😕
Is there even a shred of humor in this?
What on earth is that little girl even doing?

1. Abuse at the end? No. Not in the way it seems if you just watched the trailer...
2. None.
3. If I describe everything she does, I might as well spoil the whole movie right here, and that wouldn't be very fair, would it? 🙂

The movie isn't bad, so if anyone is on the fence, go ahead and give it a watch. It’s not exactly a masterpiece, but it holds its own. It reminds me a bit of Orphan, so if you liked that one... start downloading!
Are this mismatch what you mean?

Taylor Morales31 said:Look, I might be a little slow here, but what are the actual benefits of Windows 7? My battery life seems about the same, if not slightly worse, than what I had before. Is it just the look? Every single app and program I use here is the exact same stuff I used back on XP—even all those sidebar gadgets that work on Vista or 7. I really don't get it... does money just start falling out of my computer if I switch to 7, or what's the catch? What's the secret? Sorry, just had to ask...☕

Personally, I find Windows 7 to be better, or at least just as good as Windows XP. For instance, you pretty much need at least Service Pack 2 installed on XP just to make it usable, whereas Windows 7 feels more complete right out of the box. Since I made the jump to W7, I haven't had to deal with those annoying "Send - Don't send" pop-ups that used to freeze up my XP constantly. Plus, I can't even begin to talk about how much easier the driver installation is. Honestly, I don't miss the old way at all.

Here is a pretty handy little tip for you guys.

Basically, just create a new folder on your desktop. Name it exactly like this: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Once you do that, you'll see a new icon pop up on your desktop labeled GodMode (it looks just like the Control Panel icon). If you double-click it, you'll get instant access to almost every single Windows setting from one convenient spot.

restlessbear34 said:Hey there.

I don't want to start a whole new thread, but could I ask a quick question?

Is there a way to organize files in a specific order within a folder on Windows 7?

Thanks!

Could you give me an example of the "problem" you're having? I'm not quite sure what you mean.

I agree, especially with the first half—it’s great. It dips a bit once Anthony shows up, but overall, it's a really solid movie.

Taylor Morales31 said:Honestly, it looks like it's working fine from what I can see. I don't really get the people jumping in here just to complain—if this isn't your thing, feel free to just skip the thread. There's nothing here for you if you're looking to argue.😛
On another note, I've been on Windows 7 for about an hour now and I'm trying to figure out how to move the Taskbar so it isn't stuck at the top when I open my browser. I checked the properties, but no luck since I'm running the 32-bit version! Thanks.

Just right-click on the Taskbar and uncheck "Lock the Taskbar," then you should be able to drag it wherever you want. Sorry if I misunderstood you, I'm feeling a little bit hungover today!☕

I’m usually a pretty level-headed guy, but whenever I see these hacker posts and issues that fall under the "No connection" category, my blood sugar spikes, my mouth goes dry, and my vision starts getting blurry...

Just install the Universal Theme Patcher and run it. Once it finishes up, give your computer a quick restart, and then you'll be all set to start using those cool themes from DeviantArt!
