I swear, every time I check the news, some massive club is acting like they've already signed a generational talent. Does anyone else feel like the "certainty" of these big moves is mostly just hype to keep the fans engaged?

Rhinoplasty: Experiences and recovery tips?

Betty Edwards22 said:It doesn't actually have anything to do with the nasal hump itself. When you undergo a rhinoplasty—specifically when removing a hump—osteotomies are mandatory to close that bone-cartilage gap, often called an "open-roof" technique. Essentially, they break the side bones so they can swing shut, much like a set of double doors closing together, which visually narrows the bridge. The tip stays exactly where it is unless there's specific work done to the cartilage portion...
Thanks for the explanation..... I understand how that closing mechanism works, I was just wondering if those two things were directly linked to one another...🙂🙂

Betty Edwards22 said:I am sorry, but as I mentioned before, I was a student at an American school. I have never actually watched the procedure mentioned, so I cannot really offer any judgment on his work—or anyone else’s being discussed here—in any capacity...
The true result of any surgery isn't just what you see immediately after, or even six months down the line; it is the long-term effect that truly matters...
I was wondering about getting an osteotomy combined with hump reduction, specifically because I want my nasal tip to stay exactly as it is now... I realize it should stay the same if it isn't touched, but I am curious if the osteotomy—and especially removing the hump—might cause the tip to lift or drop regardless? Thank you for any insight...🙂🙂

I was just wondering, if you all had similar surgeries, did you feel the need to give the doctor a gift... you know, just as a token of appreciation?
My surgery isn't until this fall... as for giving a gift, that’s really up to you personally... though many people we know tend to do it, even if I personally think it’s unnecessary... By the way, when your procedure is scheduled, do you know which technique they'll be using??🙂

I have a quick question regarding my nose and a persistent issue I've been dealing with.
For several years now, I’ve been "struggling" with my breathing... it feels like I can only breathe through one nostril at a time, while the other is completely blocked, and then they just swap places.
About two months ago, I saw my doctor, and he mentioned that it isn't actually a deviated septum, but rather some issue within the mucous membrane that might require some kind of cauterization? 😕 I suppose he meant burning off the lining of the nose?
He put me on a month-long treatment plan consisting of Nasonex spray and saline solution (I used Ocean spray), but nothing really changed. So, he extended the treatment for another two months; I'm already one month into this second round, and naturally, there hasn't been any improvement...
The doctor did mention that whatever needs to be cauterized might come back, so it’s not a guaranteed fix.
I was wondering if anyone else here has dealt with something similar, or if anyone happens to know more about this specific procedure.
Thanks! 😁
Could those perhaps be polyps? You know, those growths from chronically inflamed nasal tissue... when you say he wants to remove something... I assume that's what he means...🙂

rustypanther2 said:Personally, I didn't experience any real pain... just some soreness along the columella and inside my nostrils. They basically reshaped a bump, narrowed the nose slightly, shortened the area under the nose, and fixed a deviation... I had my surgery done at a hospital, where I had packing in for five days and wore a splint for eight days, though I've noticed private clinics tend to remove them sooner. Generally speaking, the actual surgery isn't painful, and my nose itself didn't hurt much either. The swelling under my eyes was at its worst on days two and three, but after a week, I was just left with some purple spots underneath, but I suppose that varies from person to person... I'm not sure how it goes for everyone else, but my gums were quite swollen and that was actually more bothersome 🙂 but don't worry too much, there are pills for everything 🙂 once the splint came off, my nose looked terribly swollen, especially the tip and a bit around the bone area, but it has subsided quite a bit now... there's still a sort of woody sensation in my nose, but even that is slowly fading... the area where the incision is on the columella still feels a bit numb... and I can't really scrunch my nose yet, if you know what I mean... overall, the surgery wasn't scary at all for me; I didn't deal with nausea from the anesthesia and didn't even need heavy painkillers... now I'm just hoping the swelling goes down quickly because I'm not entirely thrilled with the direction things are heading based on how it looks right now 🤷 if there is anything else you want to know, just ask 😉
I'm glad to hear you weren't in any pain🙂....and I'll be having mine at a hospital as well.... I am mostly just curious about the recovery process.... from what I've read, the recovery takes a bit longer when they use this specific technique (with the columellar incision), so there's no need to worry too much.... and also, it takes a few months for everything to truly settle into place, and you really have to be careful not to bump your nose!! If I think of anything else I might want to know, I'll reach out. Thanks for sharing all this information🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

rustypanther2 said:Hey everyone... this is my first time posting here... I had nose surgery about a month ago—both cosmetic and to fix a deviation—so I wanted to ask how you all handled the recovery process. How long did it take for the swelling at the tip to finally go down, and for everything to start settling into its final shape? Especially if anyone else had an incision on the columella... I’d love to hear how your healing went. Right now, everything feels a bit crooked and distorted to me. There are these little bumps on the bridge of my nose, and even on the nostril area, which makes the whole thing look asymmetrical... has anyone else dealt with something similar? And of course, please feel free to ask me anything if you have questions too... 😉
Hey... I'm curious... I see you had an open rhinoplasty since you mentioned the columella incision. I'm scheduled for the same technique, so I was wondering if it was painful and how much you had recovered after a month. Did they have to break any bones...? Please, just write whatever comes to mind... I want to know everything.🙂🙂

restlessraven12 said:Like I mentioned before, my nose still feels pretty swollen and the tip is totally numb... honestly, I didn't even have any bruising, which actually surprised my doctor. 😁 But my eyes were watering like crazy and they were so itchy, it was driving me nuts 😠 and they stayed red for quite a while, though nothing too dramatic. During one of my pre-op checkups, he told me the bruising usually clears up in about two weeks. Of course, everyone heals differently, so I suspect it might take closer to two or three weeks for me... 😉
Ah, I really hope that’s the case for me too... if only! I was wondering how long the actual surgery took for you, and if there's much pain afterward? I'm asking because most people I see here had the closed method, whereas you went with the open approach...🙂🙂

restlessraven12 said:I suppose there will come a day when the swelling finally subsides, so I won't look like I have a little ball sitting on the tip of my nose😂 I actually have quite a narrow nose, so it feels very strange to me now that everything is so inflamed and wide on the sides
Here is someone who had the open technique used... restlessraven12, I was wondering how long it took for your bruising and swelling to clear up, considering they went with the open method?? thanks🙂

Justin Parker7 said:It’s me again... I’m thinking about getting cosmetic surgery, specifically a rhinoplasty. I have this huge bump on my nose that just ruins my entire facial profile. It makes me feel terrible about myself. On top of that, I don't really have the money for it right now, so I was wondering if there is any way to get it done for free, or even if that's possible at all. How should I even start looking? Where do I go first? Any and all advice would be appreciated... :S
If you're looking for something free, your only shot is through the hospital system... Your first step would be to visit your primary care physician to get a referral to an ENT specialist. You'd likely need to argue that you're having trouble breathing or that you have a deviated septum—even if you aren't entirely sure that's the case. Then, if you're lucky enough to find a doctor who will agree to do it, and assuming they actually perform cosmetic procedures... or perhaps you could research beforehand which doctors specialize in that area... well, anyway, I hope that helps a little bit...🙂

Alex Evans10 said:Hey everyone, quick question again... maybe someone here knows... when you head in for nose surgery, you usually have to show up at the hospital the morning before, right? But I was wondering—if anyone happens to know—do you actually have to stay overnight that day, or do they let you go home? (All the preliminary tests have already been finished)
I arrived on the morning of the actual surgery... though it really depends on whether they give you premedication (you know, those sedative meds before the anesthesia kicks in)........but they’ll tell you exactly when you need to be there.... because once the anesthesiologist clears you, you have to check in with the department..... anyway, that's my experience🙂

rustygardener172 said:Usually, the happy ones don't bother coming back here... whereas the unhappy ones just can't let it go, which is why there seem to be more of them. Or rather, they write more often.
I’ll say this right upfront—I don't mean to offend anyone, and I know there are exceptions, but it mostly boils down to this:
The satisfied group... Type 1: those who had a truly terrible nose, maybe quite large or hooked... so their hump was removed and the nose was shortened... for them, it's enough. Lower expectations lead to higher satisfaction.
The satisfied group... Type 2: people who had breathing issues and decided to touch up the look while they were at it, but didn't have a massive hump to begin with. Their breathing is fixed, so they're happy because that was the main goal... though they might still wonder if the appearance could have been just a little better. (I suppose I fall into this category 😁 ) ...which starts to bleed into the third group, namely
The dissatisfied group... Type 3: those who wanted surgery primarily for aesthetics, but also happen to have a deviated septum (nearly 80% of people do... so... you get the idea)... so they use "poor breathing" as the primary reason for the procedure. These folks are almost always dissatisfied because their nose will never be "perfect" enough. They simply don't grasp the fact that a perfect nose doesn't exist, and never will. After every surgery, they'll find a new flaw to complain about and want to change that too. It never ends... Because if they could just accept themselves and see beauty in imperfections, they would never have gone under the knife in the first place.
The dissatisfied group... Type 4: these are the ones where it doesn't even matter what their nose looked like or why they went in... they have genuine reasons to be unhappy because, much to their misfortune, it was a surgeon's error...
Types 2 and 3 are the most common. Type 4 is incredibly rare... I'm crossing my fingers that you don't end up in that one.
Use your head! Most dissatisfaction stems from unrealistic expectations and a lack of information. If you research thoroughly before the operation and stop expecting a "perfect" nose—because it TRULY does not exist—you're already halfway to being satisfied.
Good luck!
That is so, soooooooo well written!!!!!!!! My surgery is tomorrow, assuming it doesn't get pushed back because of my period..... I am a nervous wreck.... I just want it all to be over!!

dustyheron102 said:I actually had my surgery this month with Dr. Tony Bennett—it was both aesthetic and functional—and I have to say, I am beyond thrilled with the results. I was dealing with a significant hump and a pretty severe deviated septum, but the doctor did an absolutely stellar job; he even performed the procedure just a day after my initial consultation. The surgery itself was painless since they used local anesthesia. Afterward, the pain was honestly negligible, more of a stinging sensation... the hardest part was definitely the discomfort from the packing, the stinging, and my eyes watering, which led to a few restless nights. But even after such a short recovery window, I can already tell it was completely worth it. I’m just counting down the two months until I'm fully healed and my nose looks perfect. Huge thanks to Dr. Tony Bennett and his entire team; they are incredibly professional and just wonderful people.
I'm so happy to hear everything went smoothly for you and that you're pleased with the outcome🙂. I was wondering, did they perform the procedure using the closed or open method, and did you undergo an osteotomy (breaking the bone)?

Sam Kim12 said:Honestly, you should just go with whatever is trending right now... maybe a floral print with some soft pastel tones? If you pair that with some nice ballet flats and an essential clutch—you can't leave without one—plus some light, nude makeup, you'll have the whole look perfectly put together 😬
😂
I mean, come on... when you're in surgery, you're basically just in your underwear anyway...😉
hahahhahaha....that's too good

Justin Parker7 said:I really need to get surgery as soon as possible, but I have no idea where to even start with all the exams and everything else. :S
It really depends on what kind of issues you're dealing with... is it purely cosmetic, or is there a functional issue involved? Of course, most hospitals can handle both types of procedures... regarding the medical exams, that part is actually quite straightforward once you get moving. Your first step should be asking your primary care doctor for an ENT referral. I hope that helps at least a little bit...🙂

rowdyfalcon35 said:I have all my pre-op records ready, along with the results from after the surgery. I’ve consulted with some of the top specialists in the country, and they all agree—the work was poorly executed. They told me I won't be able to breathe properly until I undergo a secondary open rhinoplasty... which will be a long, grueling process, and even then, it might only solve part of the problem. Even after everything, he still tries to distance himself and refuses to admit to mistakes that are visible from a mile away... not to mention how obvious the issues are when you look at the internal structure. I won't go into full detail about the complications because I don't want to scare anyone, but let's just say things are not good. Usually, people see about 80% of the final result after six months. Well, I am not going to stop here... not for my own sake, and certainly not for others who have gone through this same nightmare. If I have to, I’ll join forces with others and take this to the media. I truly believe there is justice to be found, even in a system as broken as ours... I worked myself to the bone for this, and my parents—who are basically the Rockefellers of our circle—have already maxed out huge portions of their credit cards just to pay for a surgery that was supposed to fix my breathing. Instead, the deviation wasn't even corrected, and honestly, everything looks worse now. Letting this person walk away with my hard-earned money after they've essentially massacred my appearance would be an insult to myself and my parents...
You have my full support... I won't offer pity, because I know that wouldn't help you or change what happened... just keep your head up and move forward. I really hope justice prevails!!🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
