The curse of the first overall pick?
in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I’ve been playing fantasy for a decade now, and I swear, having the first pick is a psychological trap. You spend the whole week before the draft obsessing over that one "sure thing" player, thinking you've basically won the league before it even starts.
But then the draft actually happens, and suddenly you're stuck in that massive gap between your first pick and your second. You end up playing a game of "catch up" for the rest of the season, trying to find value in the middle rounds just to balance out the heavy hitters you grabbed early. It feels like you're sprinting out of the gate only to realize you've got a massive hole in your roster depth.
I've had seasons where I went 10-2 because my top guy was a god, and others where that first pick was a complete bust and my whole season fell apart by week four. It's a high-stakes gamble every single year.
For those of you who usually draft at the top, do you actually prefer the control of the first pick, or do you find the long waits between rounds too much of a headache?
