Just popped an Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 into my rig—it was sitting in a box from my old PC, so I figured I'd let it limp along until I can afford a proper upgrade.
No issues on my end. I'm out in Chicago and haven't dealt with any crazy lightning storms or anything lately; my laptop and my other desktop are both running totally fine. Does anyone know if there's a specific way to stress test a power supply?
George Sanders37 said:If another card works in that slot, then this XFX one is definitely dead.
What kind of power supply are you running in that rig—and have you dealt with any power surges or lightning strikes lately?
Corsair 430W... Nah, nothing happened. Honestly, I haven't even turned the PC on in two months, so I'm totally lost as to why the GPU would just suddenly give up the ghost.
Btw, I've got an ASRock FM2A75DGS motherboard—can I run an Nvidia card on that? Also, do you happen to know where I can grab the drivers for a D-Link DWA-123 WiFi adapter?
Turns out there’s no signal when I boot up because of the GPU, but everything works fine once I swap in a different card. I don't really get how it's suddenly the graphics card's fault, though. Everything was running smooth before. Then my HDD kicked the bucket, so I didn't even touch the PC for two months. I finally swapped the drive out yesterday, and now the GPU is acting up too. Is that actually possible? I'm running an AMD Radeon HD 7850
So I just realized there are a couple of bent pins on my CPU. Does that mean the thing is officially dead? I don't know if that's related, but before I even drop the lever down, the chip sits all crooked—one side is higher than the other, like a seesaw. It's basically wobbling around, and once I actually lock the lever, it’s totally uneven.
George Sanders37 said:I have to say, I’m not quite sure how swapping out thermal paste on the CPU relates to installing a new IBM, but what you can try is just going step-by-step. Try plugging the cables and devices back into the motherboard one at a time to figure out what’s actually preventing the PC from booting up. Maybe disconnect the IBM, the optical drive, and everything else—just leave the bare essentials connected to the board. If it powers up then, you can add each component back one by one until you find whatever is causing the hang-up.
Well, the old paste was crusty, so I figured I'd swap that out while I was messing with the hard drive anyway.
Larry Ortiz5 said:It looks like things aren't quite hooked up the way they used to be... Is this your first time putting a build together? Just double-check all your connections—make sure that 24-pin power connector is seated firmly into the motherboard, and that you've got the 4 or 8-pin CPU power cable plugged in correctly.
By the way, how much thermal paste did you end up using on the processor? I really hope you didn't go overboard—you don't want any of it oozing out and causing a short circuit if it misses its mark. 😁
I didn't touch the drive; a more experienced guy helped me with that part.😁 I just handled the paste. Cleaned things off with some acetone, applied a tiny bit, and popped the heatsink back on.
Now I'm just sitting here wondering if the issue is with the drive or the processor.🤔
So I picked up a new IBM, hooked everything up, even went through the whole ritual of pulling the fan off to slap on some thermal paste before putting it all back together. Now I’m trying to install macOS, but when I boot the rig up, absolutely nothing happens. 🤔 I tried plugging into two different monitors, but still dead silence—no signal on either one. Honestly, I'm totally lost on what to do next. 🤷
Gary Evans90 said:I get what you're trying to say, but you worded it pretty clunky. Fans are fans—they shouldn't have to polish their language or play nice just to try and bridge the gap with everyone else. All they’re asking for is to follow US laws, have decent conditions to actually show up, and be treated like an equal part of the game, especially since football is played for the fans. Like you've seen firsthand, the laws aren't even being followed, the conditions are a joke, and instead of treating fans as equals, they just constantly smear them to shift the focus away from the real corruption in American soccer and onto a few flares or some shouting.
He spoke up, along with plenty of others, about that mess with the non-alcoholic beer. Honestly, the writers should've known how this would go down, but tempers were running high. These guys do everything they do to look out for their own, though they definitely cross the line sometimes when they think they're fighting "the system." But hey, let's not get hung up on one clumsy sentence. Now it's the headline and everyone's acting outraged, yet nobody seems to ask why these kids are even pushed to such extremes in our stadiums.
You've got to know the difference between a rebellion and radicalism. Sure, sometimes a protest can lean toward being radical, but in my book, 90% of what these groups do is totally legitimate and justified because the crackdown from the authorities has been brutal just to try and break their spirit. But the Ultras have always been tough and stayed true to their ideals, no matter what.
Btw. Happy Easter to all my brothers in the stands!
That's all true, but football in Europe stopped being about the fans a long time ago—now it's strictly about the money.👎
My advice? Stick to the exact same memory kit. It’ll save you the headache of compatibility issues or them failing to run together. Since you're in a big city like Chicago, you should be able to find them at most local tech shops easily.
Yeah, true, everything is hovering around that 10-$$6.75 difference🙄
Seriously though, why did RAM prices spike so hard all of a sudden? I remember building my rig just two years ago and paid maybe $130$47 total. Back then, I actually debated grabbing 8GB right away, but I figured I'd just upgrade later when I needed it. Man, seeing these prices now... I really should have just pulled the trigger back then. 😲
I'm looking to upgrade my RAM and wanted to see if anyone knows where to find the best deals. I've got a single 4GB stick of Kingmax DDR3 1600 FLGF currently in there. I can't seem to find anything cheaper than $93 🤷 . Also, I'm running an AsRock FM2A75-DGS motherboard with that 4GB stick already installed. Does the new RAM strictly have to be Kingmax, or can I mix in a different brand?
bluewalker9 said:Hey everyone, first time posting here. Not trying to start any trouble, just curious I want to know what the actual Bad Boys think about how they stack up against Ultra. As someone who doesn't really pick sides, it feels like Ultra is maybe 30% better overall—just looking at numbers, the choreo, and the atmosphere.
What kind of math did you use to come up with that 30% figure?
This whole thing feels gross. In handball, the host nation should basically be guaranteed a spot in at least the semifinals, not just occasionally making the finals. This squad is going to play in the Olympics and against Qatar, and honestly? They’ll never win another World Championship again.🤣
I’m calling it now—expect to see Brazil in the Olympic semifinals next year.
Thomas Harris97 said:Honestly, does the "why" even matter? If someone had told me before the tournament that we’d have to knock out Poland or the Germans/Qataris just to make the finals, I would've been like, w T F.
Exactly. If they were picking the matchups themselves, they could've easily made it way easier for us. 🤣 It's not like I'm sleeping on Poland, Germany, or Qatar, but looking at the other side of the bracket... I mean, you've gotta beat some heavy hitters if you want to actually reach the championship.
Look, man, you’re way too young to be stripping out entire food groups like this, especially since you're only sitting at about 90 pounds. Just eat normally, hang out with your friends, and enjoy being your age. You've got plenty of time later on to get serious about training or dieting 😁

If you actually give a damn about this legendary club, you better be at least five points ahead of the West by tonight. No excuses, no blacklists, we’re right on their heels.
Hamburger SV vs Greuther Fürth 1:1, 1.90 (0-0) Hamburger SV has such a massive legacy, they've seriously never been relegated from the top flight. They really ought to wrap this up in the very first match today. Sure, Greuther Fürth has been playing pretty well this season, but I just don't see them pulling off anything against them on the road. There’s even been some chatter that they aren't even aiming for promotion this year, so if you ask me, there's some serious value in taking this odds.
