So, it’s basically off-limits to regular users now.
How can a moderator justify pulling someone's photos out of a deleted thread just to post them on the site?

Was he actually penalized for doing that?
It’s definitely not the same thing as if Molly* took a photo I posted in a casual thread and moved it over to a private group.

I brought up Herp because she’s the one I’ve talked to the most. Africa was just a passing trend on the site—and since I was gone about 90% of the time back then—I can only comment on what I’m seeing today.

Yeah, Africa was just following the site rules, which basically say moderators get flagged for replying to posts in places they aren't supposed to. And sure, I’ve picked up a warning or two myself for breaking the rules.
Have I ever complained about it? Not once.
So, I know exactly why I got flagged.

*The issue is that the mods aren't even allowed to comment in the designated spots. Threads get shut down way too fast. You don't get an answer, or you just get told "mind your own business" or "this doesn't concern you," and then the thread is locked and that's the end of it.

It's funny, because my experience is the opposite; I'll get a notification about a strike, and then I find myself messaging the moderator to ask for some clarity on why it happened in the first place.

Then you have my close friends—you know, the usual crew—dropping by my inbox too. 😬 It’s a constant stream.

To me, this is supposed to be a chill subforum, and I feel like being overly aggressive or heavy-handed with moderation kills the whole point of the community—though that doesn't mean rules shouldn't be followed.

What I was actually getting at was the moderators and their attitude toward the Reddit subforum.
If they really felt the thread had run its course, they could have just temporarily locked it, cleared out the clutter, and then brought it back to life once things settled down.

There's already a pinned thread in that subforum that lays out exactly what qualifies as junk. People looking to contribute something meaningful likely checked that out and followed the rules.
As for those just posting whatever popped into their heads, they should have just been warned and shown where they went wrong.
I know some would have kept doing it anyway, but that shouldn't be a reason to punish everyone else who was actually enjoying—let's call it that—following or participating in the discussion.
