Justin Parker7 said:Look, my sister just turned 16 and she is DESPERATE for nose surgery. Her nose is honestly pretty ugly—it’s got this bump and just hangs there in a weird way :S Of course, our parents won't even hear of it, but it can be fixed. She wants it done because it totally ruins her face. She’s got great eyes, lips, teeth, everything... but then there's just that one thing ruining her look. Her big issue right now is the age limit; she doesn't know if a minor can get the procedure, or if she can find a clinic where it won't cost a fortune. We're both looking for some info. 🙂

She's way too young for surgery. The nose keeps forming until you're about 21. All she can really do right now is fix the top part, both for breathing and looks.
Olivia Young36 said:From everything I've read on this forum—and trust me, I've read a lot—it seems like every single doctor ends up totally wrecking someone's nose. :S Maybe it’s just better if I don't do anything at all. :/

Look, if you aren't having breathing issues and your nose isn't actually messed up, my advice is to skip it. Nose surgery is no joke.
rustygardener172 said:Think long and hard about what you actually want and stick to it. Glusac is a bit of a weird one... Honestly, I’m starting to feel like he just pushes the exact same nose shape on everyone, regardless of their actual features. Don't let him talk circles around you with that "I'm the best and I know everything" attitude. At the end of the day, you're paying him serious money for this surgery, so the final call is yours. Use your head!

Look, I thought about what I wanted, and I said it clearly: I wanted a feminine nose like Michael Jackson's because apparently, that's his style (he basically mumbled something and won't admit it). And don't even get me started on the function. He tried the same thing with me—acting like he's the only expert and everyone else is amateur hour. Then I realized he tells the exact same stories to everyone, the same people, the same script! Every time something goes wrong, he blames someone else. In my case, he'll definitely try to blame me. But I know what happened before the surgery. I have my CT scan right here, and it clearly shows zero signs of bone destruction. My deviation was minor—it's literally written there (even though he claims it was massive). He operated on perfectly healthy sinuses, so he can forget that nonsense about everything going wrong because of some crazy fracture that neither I nor anyone else remembers. It was so bad, it wasn't even visible on the scan. He actually managed to convince me until I opened my eyes and saw all these other women posting about having the exact same issues. Ladies, watch out. I wish someone had warned me. I saw the red flags too late, after a few years of being totally thrilled, only to see more and more people who were once obsessed with him suddenly losing interest for these same reasons.

I won't even ask which genius came up with that idea or where they got it from. Advice: don't let them put any fat or similar tissues, fillers, Aquamide, or any of that nonsense in there. Cartilage grafts solve the problem perfectly. And permanently. The issue? Most "plastic surgeons" don't know how to do it, don't want to, or just can't be bothered. My suggestion: go ask around, get consultations from other doctors, and see what they tell you. Get it done right. I had this exact same issue, and the "distinguished doctor" actually had the nerve to offer to fill my hole with Aquamide! Unbelievable. Real experts right there. 🙄

(So the hospital ends up fixing a private practice mess...)

steelangler88, I can't send you a DM. Who did your re-op??
I honestly don't get people who have zero breathing issues and no major aesthetic concerns but still go under the knife. Seriously, guys, surgery isn't some minor thing you just breeze through! If you don't absolutely have to do it, don't!

I'm planning to have my surgery with Glusac... basically, look at this timeline.. today is March 19th, tomorrow I'm getting my referral for X-rays, getting ultrasounds done, images should be ready by Friday, then I take everything to him next week and he tells me what else I need—EKG, anesthesiologist, all that stuff—and then he schedules the surgery, maybe 10 days after that. Anyway, I have a wedding on April 28th or 29th. Do you think I could actually show up? He told me I could have the surgery on Friday, get my Tampons out Saturday, and be back at school by Monday without any bruising? Is that even real? I really want to look good in those wedding photos and have a nose that isn't looking all crooked 😢

Look, it's true that bruising is minimal when you go to him, but saying you'll have surgery on Friday and be back in class on Monday? I won't even go there. Better if I don't say it.
p.s.—do you really need to wait six months after the first surgery before getting cartilage grafts inserted?

Cartilage grafts solve the problem perfectly. And permanently. The issue? A whole mass of "plastic surgeons" either doesn't know how to do it, doesn't want to, or just can't be bothered. I'd recommend you go shop around, get consultations from other doctors, and see what they say. Get it done right. I dealt with this exact thing, and "Mr. Doctor" here so graciously offered to fill my hole with Aquamide! Yeah, right, what an expert. 🙄

(And that's how the hospital ends up fixing a private doctor's mess.....)

I honestly don't know what to do now. I have a follow-up with him in three weeks. My breathing is so weak; everything just gets clogged up. I can't blow my nose, I can't clean it out with swabs, and I'm barely managing to keep my mouth from getting totally bone-dry. My mucosa is trashed, and I'm constantly producing saliva. My doctor told me I won't breathe normally until summer. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? It seems like everyone else breathes perfectly after their surgery, so that's why I'm asking. For me, it’s worse—drastically worse. It feels okay right after he cleans it, but then the mucus builds up again immediately. He told me that at the spot where the hole closed over against the bone, if he tries to use a needle, it might trigger inflammation again (since there was a cyst there originally). So his "better solution" for those two holes—which look like scars and deform my entire nose—is to inject that fat tissue.
Susan Cooper23 said:Really sorry you had such a rough experience. 😢 But you can fill that gap. Usually, people just go in with some fat grafts. As for using tissue from the knee? Honestly, that’s news to me. 🤷

How long should I wait after surgery before getting that inserted?
rustygardener172 said:Ugh! Your nose is cursed 😢

I massaged mine... but I didn't deal with issues like yours. You really need to massage it so the skin doesn't "stick" to the bone...

If it had been done right, it wouldn't be cursed! And I never said I wanted a huge, pointy nose. I just wanted it straightened. He said he’d create a slight indentation or whatever you call it, but instead, he made it way too sharp. Now there's this hole where the hump used to be because he took the whole thing out, and it looks disgusting!! It looked amazing in profile when it was smooth, but now it looks hideous and unnatural from every angle. There's this massive dent—honestly, it looks like someone punched me in the face.
Guys, I need some help here. After they removed the cyst, I ended up with this huge gap right at the base of my nose. My doctor told me to try massaging it first, but if that doesn't work, he wants to do a fat graft using tissue from my knee to fill out my nose. Has anyone actually gone through this???
redranger82 said:Hey everyone,

I’m planning on getting my deviated septum fixed soon. I have an appointment with the doctor next week, so I wanted to ask—how long after surgery should I stay cooped up at home?

I'm still finishing up some training, so I really want to schedule this right to minimize time off work. Is it safe to assume I shouldn't go anywhere for a week or two, maybe longer? 😁

Also, one more thing for those of you who've already had the surgery: how was your breathing before? For me, it’s constant struggle—one nostril is totally blocked while the other works, and then they just swap. It’s relentless.🤣 Just curious what it was like for you guys, both before and after.

Thanks. 🙂

Your breathing will be way better. Before my surgery, I could barely breathe through half of one nostril. I had a deviation, hypertrophied turbinates, and a crooked bone blocking my sinus entrance. They even had to fix the aesthetics because the bone was basically shattered during the procedure. After the surgery? Total disaster. I felt like a broken diesel engine, my mucosa was trashed... I just constantly felt like something was wrong. Air wasn't reaching my sinuses and the pain was brutal. I kept telling myself, "It'll pass." Four weeks later, nothing had changed, and the pain actually got worse. I went back for a check-up, and the doctor said he had to reopen me to look because the swelling was so weird and massive. Back on that infamous operating table I did. Turns out it was a cyst at the sinus entrance. Since he cleared it out yesterday, I’m breathing like I’m standing on top of the Alps. No more pain.🙂
Recovery is different for everyone, but plan for a week or two. After that, you'll feel like a new person.🙂
George Richardson10 said:I had my septoplasty and sinus surgery about 11 days ago, and I'm only just starting to catch some scents... how long does it actually take for your sense of smell to get back to 100%?

Same here. I started picking up smells again after about 11 or 12 days... slowly, though. The main thing is that it's coming back. You just have to give the mucous membranes some time to heal.
And guess what? I'm back in surgery AGAIN this morning. That massive swelling that wouldn't go down turned out to be a huge cyst. Local anesthesia and back under the knife. This nose is driving me absolutely insane... fingers crossed everything is finally fixed this time.
Adam Patel98 said:Hahaha, I was mostly picturing us from the outside looking in—all puffed up with those goofy grandma smiles on our faces, just sitting there laughing at ourselves.🤣

Hahaha, whatever. We aren't the first to deal with this, and we won't be the last. 😉
Adam Patel98 said:Everyone keeps telling me to just chill out and that everything will be fine—that the asymmetry will fade and my smile will come back. Honestly? I feel like they’re just patronizing me because they think I'm overreacting. I can't stop looking in the mirror. It's constant. I feel like I'm losing my mind. Then I read these posts on here where girls describe the whole thing as "simple" or "wonderful"... give me a break. It hasn't been wonderful at all. That first night, I almost choked on a tampon. It went straight down my throat.

Hahahaha, oh man, that mirror. Seriously, I haven't looked in a mirror this many times in my entire life during these last three weeks! Sometimes I just want to chuck the damn thing in the trash so I don't have to look anymore.🤣
Your smile will come back, don't sweat it. It happens for everyone, some people just take longer than others. I read somewhere that it usually takes about a month to a month and a half. We'll see.😁
My recovery was the exact opposite of "wonderful." I had sponges stuffed from my brain down to my throat. My surgeon basically tried to do four operations in one—functional stuff plus aesthetics—but things went sideways. His nose practically fell apart during the procedure; he barely managed to piece it back together. He broke everything. The next day he went to pull the sponges out, but had to put them right back in because blood was literally gushing non-stop. I almost suffocated. Tried again the next day, same disaster. Had to keep the sponges in for another week. My mucous membrane was totally wrecked.
Even a week after the sponges were finally out, I couldn't breathe through my nose. When I finally tried to blow it out—kind of like a turbo diesel engine—I blew way too hard and a piece of bone, maybe an inch long and shaped like a triangle, actually popped out. After that, I could breathe through one nostril, but I woke up swollen and tingling like crazy. He tells me it's fine and totally normal... we'll see in a few months if that was actually true or not. Far from wonderful. The tingling has subsided a bit these last two days, so things are looking slightly better. Time will tell...
Adam Patel98 said:It’s terrible. I look like an old lady too... honestly, I'm worried my doctor might have mentioned something about muscle laxity. Does that happen to you?

I'm new here, and this thread is honestly hurting right now. I just had surgery with Dr. Glumicic and I'm not thrilled. It's only been two weeks, so I know I have to wait for everything to settle and find its place. But this waiting game? It's driving me crazy. 😢 The nose itself looks nice—he didn't turn me into Miss Piggy or anything—but it's still a bit crooked and asymmetrical...

Everyone goes through this right after surgery, so don't sweat it. It'll pass. 🙂
I'm just praying it goes away fast because I've still got that "grandma smile." 😁
Mine is asymmetrical too. It leans a bit to the left, and I have this massive swelling on the right side by my eye along with a bump. Really hoping that goes down soon. It wasn't as noticeable when the swelling was huge, but now it's sticking out.
I just blew out a little triangular chunk, about 1 cm wide. My doctor says it was just a crystal and that it was bound to pass on its own anyway. Honestly, I’m totally confused because my CT scan shows everything is normal—so why did this even happen? 🤷 Does anyone know if this is going to mess anything up? This doctor keeps telling me everything is fine, but it’s not exactly a huge deal to me when I'm literally pulling pieces out of my nose and now my nose feels tingly as hell.
I need some help here. To anyone who’s had nose surgery: have you ever blown your nose and felt like a piece of bone just popped out?
hiddenseal14 said:It’s been 3 years since my surgery with Dr. Glusac. Breathing is perfect now. I still get a little bit of blood when I blow my nose sometimes, though. Even after 3 years, it heals so incredibly slow. Just be patient.

There’s hope! 🙂How long did it take before you could breathe normally?
rustygardener172 said:That’s exactly what he told me too 😂
But my experience at the hospital was a bit different... the doctor told me the deviation is gone, but the lining is still super swollen. Apparently, I just need time to let it heal. Honestly, I probably wrecked it myself using those nasal drops... We don't just breathe through our noses, you know? That lining makes a huge difference in how well you can actually breathe. Even Dr. Glusac mentioned that... once I get some sun and hit the coast for two summers, I'll be breathing much better. One summer down, one more to go. We'll see. 😁

How's your breathing lately?
