Carl Young57 said:After my septum surgery, I ended up with a hematoma in my nostril, so it’s just as annoying as the original issue was before the operation. Only now, the problem has shifted to the opposite side.

How long does this usually take to clear up? It's already been two weeks since the procedure. Has anyone else dealt with this?
EDIT: It looks kind of like what you see in this photo, just not quite as massive.

I've actually got something similar in the nostril I used to breathe through, and honestly, things aren't going great right now. 🙂 It's been almost five months for me and it's still sitting there, yet my doctor insists he doesn't see anything wrong and tells me everything is fine. I can barely breathe, and at this rate, it feels like it'll stay this way until I go back in for a revision surgery, which hopefully happens as soon as possible.🙂
Look, I’m not out of my mind here... I tried doing it that way first, but the issue is that on David's thread, only one girl who actually had surgery with him has ever posted, and she hasn't been active in ages. I sent her a private message so there wouldn't be any other choice but to ask this way. Besides, this is the very first time I've even brought up this doctor; it's not like I've been badgering everyone about him every single day, so I don't get why you guys are making such a big deal out of me asking a question.😕 If you were in my shoes, you’d be asking too... Honestly, it’s because of people like you—people who are supposedly ready to help but get annoyed when someone is desperately searching for answers—that I'm walking away from this group. 👋

It is much easier to just see who else has had surgery with the doctor you're looking at and send them a DM rather than starting an entire thread on the forum about it.
I was just quoting those dissatisfied women and the websites where they ended up two years ago, because back then I was actively hunting for a surgeon too, and I knew all about the mistakes made by the guy you chose.
You can't really expect people who have undergone surgery to be scrolling through every single page regularly, whereas they'll definitely see a private message when they get to it and can give you a detailed response, some advice, or maybe even send photos and stuff.
That's exactly what I did when I was torn between two different doctors, and it worked out great for me.
There are plenty of others who went through surgery with the doctor you're interested in right now, and I'm sure they'd be happy to help you out.
Who even asked you?! I’m doing my own thing and making my own calls—I don't just waste time for the sake of it. If I had actually known someone who underwent surgery with him, I wouldn't be scouring this thread for answers! I’m gathering info however I can because I am determined to make a smart choice this time around. :503
Patrick Robinson7 said:No offense, but when are you going to stop being so defensive about this topic? Nobody is helping me either... try looking for someone on this forum who had surgery with Dave Grohl and send them a private message instead; that's what I'm doing, and I'd rather wait for real info than rush into nothing. I've been keeping all my notes on him in Notepad, so I'll let you know what I find tonight, but I can't promise anything.
I'm at my follow-up appointment with the Holy Spirit right now, and they scheduled all of us for 10:00 AM. Dammit.
Best,
Has anyone here actually had surgery performed by Dr. Dave Grohl?
Oh man 😢 did you actually end up seeing that doctor you mentioned? Honestly, he’s the best in the business, so I really think he knows what he’s talking about. Besides, his practice will definitely be looking for a refund from the other guy now 🙂
Melissa Thomas35 said:So, I went out to get a second opinion. It turns out it wasn't some bone callus after all; they told me my septum actually collapsed because the previous surgery was way too aggressive. That "lump" I'm feeling is just my old bone becoming visible because the septum gave way. They mentioned a potential follow-up surgery in a year where they can take cartilage from my ear to fill in the gap. Ugh, girl, I went into this surgery just to fix my breathing, and now I’m left with this terrifying saddle nose shape.
Oh, I am so incredibly sorry to hear that 😢 there are more of us popping up all the time, and honestly, it’s making me pretty frustrated because it feels like we’re going to have to deal with this all over again 🙂 Is that bump hard when you touch it, or is it kind of soft? If it feels rock hard, I find it hard to believe it'll go away on its own, but if there's even a little bit of softness to it, then there might be some hope 🙂
Melissa Thomas35 said:So, honey, I just got back from my checkup. The doctor told me it's actually a bony callus that formed right where the bone was broken. He said it'll definitely stay like that for a few months, and if it doesn't shrink down, I'll have to undergo a second surgery. Not exactly the news I wanted to hear.🙂
And by the way, my nose looks like a total disaster right now.
I wore those splints the doctor gave me for a few days, but now I’m just doing it on my own to hide this hideous bump on my nose 🙂 Good luck with your surgery! 🙂
restlesspuma15 said:Me again 😁
Are those special splints that the doctor prescribes, or can you just pick them up at a pharmacy?
I have to be back at work 10 days after my surgery (while staying at the Mayo Clinic) 🙂 I haven't had my surgery yet (septum deviation + rhinoplasty), but it should be happening in a day or two. I'll definitely share my experience for everyone else coming after me 🙂
Mine was actually shorter right after they took the splints off, too!🙂I ended up getting my whole nose resized, but honestly, it wasn't exactly a success for me.😢Maybe it looks a bit saggy because of the incision? Have you checked back in with your doctor yet? How long has it been since your surgery?
Kimberly Hughes17 said:This whole thing is really freaking me out. My nose was at its shortest right after the cast came off... but ever since then, it just keeps getting longer and longer. To be fair, the tip looks okay from the profile view (even though I think it should have been lifted a bit more), but when you look at it from the front, it looks like the tip is drooping. Actually, it's not even the tip itself, it's that part where the nostrils meet—I think it's called a "hanging columella," which is basically one of the main reasons people get surgery in the first place.🙂
I'm really crossing my fingers that everything will just shrink back down and tighten up, and maybe the scar tissue will actually help pull things together... but I'm just not feeling super confident about it.
Did they use a cartilage graft to lift your tip?
Are you unsure what you mean exactly? One of the things that's left me feeling pretty unsatisfied with my surgery is that my nose actually dropped and elongated quite a bit over the last five weeks. I was honestly under the impression it would shrink back down over time. 😢I don't want to scare you off—this is just my experience, and maybe yours will be totally different.

I’d ask if anyone else has noticed their nose shortening after the swelling goes down?
Most people say the nose will look completely different in a month or two (which I am really, really hoping for!), but the length is what's really bothering me... my columella sits very low now and it looks pretty unflattering. Is there any chance it will lift at all? Specifically, will that columella end up looking any thinner than it does right now?
They used an open technique and did a cartilage graft, but the columella stayed way too low, so now the tip of my nose looks like a triangle pointing downwards. 😢😢
Let me know as soon as you head in for your appointment. There are a few of us dealing with this back stuff too, so I'm really curious to hear what the doctor says. 😂 P.s. Fingers crossed for you!
Melissa Thomas35 said:Thanks. I'm crossing my fingers for you too. It feels a bit silly to be complaining about the doctor when I don't even know what the final results are going to look like yet. But if things stay this way, I'll definitely give you guys a heads-up. Though, keep in mind, I'm over here in Indianapolis!
Haha, I’m rocking the bandages too! 🙂 Mine aren't fading at all—if anything, they seem to be getting more noticeable. 🙂 I'm crossing my fingers that yours goes down soon. Which doctor did you see? I want to make sure I steer clear of them!
Melissa Thomas35 said:I'll let you know. Have you dealt with this before? I didn't have any bruising or swelling, and I felt like I was recovering perfectly fine, until I took the bandage off today and totally shocked myself.
At this rate, I'll probably be walking around town covered in bandages for a few months until this finally settles down. 🙂

I went to a private specialist to handle the functional stuff and some aesthetic work on the side, and it ended up costing me $15,000. 🙂
That’s exactly how I felt at first, too, but you eventually just get used to it... what is what is, right? Of course, we’d all be much happier if we were actually satisfied with the results, but... 😢So, where did you have your surgery, or rather, which doctor did you see?? I’m currently stuck in this waiting game, just trying to let six months pass before I can even think about fixing this disaster. ☕I really hope you don't end up in the same boat I am.
Melissa Thomas35 said:I honestly don't know. My bone is fractured. It looks absolutely terrible, and frankly, I have zero desire to leave my house right now.🙂
I'm heading to Pon. for a checkup, so I'll see what they tell me. I’m not holding my breath, though—I don't really believe things are going to improve much.
I didn't actually have a broken nose, but this bump popped up exactly where people usually get one—a spot I definitely didn't have before 🙂 It was actually a bit smaller right when I first got my cast off, but unfortunately, it's gotten bigger now. It doesn't look like it's going anywhere, so I'll probably have to head back in 🙂
Melissa Thomas35 said:I have a massive bump right where the bone was joined. It's just slightly below the bridge of my nose. Was yours really noticeable too? How long has it been since your surgery? I'm really hoping it at least shrinks down, because I honestly don't know what I'll do!
So where exactly is this bump located? I’ve got one too, but I also developed this hump I never had before. It hasn't gone away yet, even though my doctor says it might eventually subside 🙂Are you dealing with a hump or just a little bump somewhere on your nose?
Melissa Thomas35 said:I had nose surgery about 10 days ago. Since they had to break the bone, I ended up with this huge bump that I definitely didn't have before. My doctor tells me it'll flatten out, but honestly, I'm not buying it because it's seriously massive. Has anyone else here dealt with something like this? Please help, I'm feeling pretty desperate...
It’s been 5 weeks now, and I’m still feeling pretty swollen, especially right on the tip of my nose and around the side of the bone... I think it's because the skin there looks really shiny 🙂
restlesspuma15 said:So, how long has it actually been since your surgery?
Are you still dealing with swelling, and if so, where?
Nobody told me anything about it 🤷 Is this even something you're supposed to do? Honestly, touching the tip feels pretty uncomfortable right now 😕
restlesspuma15 said:Hey everyone, how many of you actually got instructions from your doctor to massage the tip of your nose to help bring down the swelling faster? Also, how long did it take for your nose to finally settle back into its normal shape?
Can I see some photos too?
Chris Martin71 said:I have absolutely no interest in promoting anyone or getting into arguments with you all here. I’m just saying there’s no need to tear him down so much; he’s easily one of the most famous and talented surgeons in America, and he gets praise from abroad, too. Plus, I totally get that he can't be perfect every single time—everyone has their own opinion. But personally, along with my two close friends, we couldn't be happier; our results were perfect. Meanwhile, my cousin went to a new hospital to see some supposedly "top-tier" surgeon, and her nose is a total disaster—now she has to go in for reconstructive surgery because nothing turned out right. So, yeah, everyone makes mistakes, both good and bad. I just want to say that if you haven't actually experienced working with Dr. Glumicic, please don't talk nonsense about him or listen to stories from people who... Well, look, after just one week, I felt like a brand-new person. My surgery was on Tuesday, Jan 8th. I had the packing removed on Thursday, and by the following Tuesday, he took off the mold, and that was it! In that entire week, I didn't even need to take a single painkiller. I mean, sure, a bone was broken during the procedure, but the bruising was minimal and cleared up after ten days. Everything went exactly how he described during our first consultation, though I guess that might depend on the individual. Bottom line: if you're deciding on nose surgery, I’d highly recommend him because I am beyond thrilled with the result. 🙂
Exactly! I personally know two girls who went to him for nose jobs and they look absolutely terrible. Now they’re actually scraping money together for corrective surgery... honestly, I have to wonder, who’s the crazy one here and who’s the smart one?
Nancy Palmer54 said:Such a bad advertisement
I'm really hoping everything turns out alright 🙂 I actually tried reducing my nasal tip too, but my nose still looks long—and now it feels even wider than before... 🙂 Who did you have your surgery with?
Kimberly Hughes17 said:Had the cast removed from my nose today... the nose still looks pretty long and wide, and especially the tip, which looks kind of droopy from the front😢 though it looks slightly lifted from the profile... I don't know. I'm just holding onto hope that everything will change drastically once all the swelling finally goes down 🤷
Unfortunately 🙂 🙂
