He brought them home and they were just little button mushrooms. But everything is fine now, he’s okay. He didn't eat enough to actually poison himself. I panicked and rushed him to the ER, but honestly, the doctors in Chicago are terrible. Like, how can they be so dismissive of someone? Everything is fine for now, though. Thanks for the replies.

So, like, how much did he actually end up eating? And honestly, if you're saying he's fine and nothing happened... I don't know, maybe you're just lucky if he was actually eating those kinds of mushrooms...
frozenorca63 said:They don't even look remotely similar, though who knows, maybe he was tripping on those first ones when he went out picking the dandelions???!!!

That's probably the only way it makes sense...

John Hill6 said:Stop trolling. There's a species of psilocybe native to this part of the country that looks almost identical to them—when they're young, the resemblance is striking. Why would anyone just make that up? I was out foraging in the woods near St. Louis recently and ended up eating about ten small dandelions because I was convinced they were the real deal. Then, just yesterday and the day before, I spotted some that look suspiciously like *cyanescens*. If I start feeling symptoms, don't even think about labeling me an addict or having some doctor talk down to me.

🤷

Darwin is the man—I'll probably grab some once I'm feeling less lazy...
frozenorca63 said:The whole thing really comes down to whether they actually took him seriously or not. I mean, I’ve had my fair share of weird encounters at the local urgent care... ugh, but look, if he isn't just trolling and actually swallowed them, he needs to get to a doctor ASAP. And obviously, he should bring those damn butterfly pieces along so they can see exactly what he's dealing with...

It’s kind of hard to wrap my head around someone mistaking his magic psilocybin for actual caterpillars, but honestly, man, what kind of world are we living in now 🤷...

And people say Darwin was a fool...

So, let me get this straight—your girlfriend told you they were pupae... and you just, I don't know, tossed them out?

I really hope you're just messing with us here...
John Hill6 said:Three days ago, I was out in the woods thinking I’d found some hallucinogenic psilocybe. I managed to knock back about seven small ones. Then yesterday and today, I picked some others—the kind that might actually be toxic—though they looked almost identical to the psilocybe cyanescens I saw before. My girlfriend basically kicked me out the door and sent me straight to the ER about two hours ago once she realized what I’d swallowed. To make matters worse, the doctor there was incredibly dismissive; she told me they wouldn't even admit me unless I were in a coma, essentially saying I was playing games with my life. She then had the nerve to suggest that once I end up in the infectious disease ward, she’ll have plenty of time to "play" with me when my liver starts failing. I honestly don't get that kind of attitude. I'm typing this on my phone while everyone else is asleep. What am I supposed to do here? Is there any actual natural remedy for poisoning? She claimed she didn't have the time to run blood tests because she had much more serious cases to deal with. Wikipedia says a lethal dose is 30 grams, and I think I took somewhere between 15 and 20. Right now, my stomach is killing me and I've got acid burning all the way up my throat.

How do you know they were pupae now if you didn't know that three days ago? Whatever, man... just go to the ER... the "natural remedy" for you is a liver transplant...

Bryan Jackson98 said:You really have to live through it to grasp the dynamic. People who went to prep school tend to view them as nothing more than straight-A nerds, instantly placing them a notch lower on the social ladder.

It's all about perception, I guess. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, right? 😬
I mean, I don't know... maybe I'm just overthinking things—which, let's be honest, is basically my default setting at this point—but there’s just something about the way everyone seems to be looking at this from one specific angle. It feels a bit narrow, doesn't it? Like we're all staring at one pixel on a massive screen and ignoring the rest of the picture. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there might be more to the story than what's being served up on a silver platter. Just a thought, though. Probably just me being cynical. kaže:
Maybe we should just toss this over to Teenagers magazine or something—you know, let those kids from the vocational schools give us their take on how they actually see high schoolers. It might be interesting, I guess.🤣

I went ahead and put it up. 😁
Bryan Jackson98 said:I’m not sure if this has been covered yet, but I’ve been wondering about this tendency people have to voluntarily subordinate themselves—essentially placing themselves in a lower tier because they assume someone else is more intelligent. It’s like they stop trying to hold onto their own convictions or become too terrified to push back. I have two specific scenarios playing out in my life. The first involves older generations; for context, I’m just hitting my late teens. They look at me differently the moment I mention I'm heading to an elite prep school, instantly labeling me as some kind of intellectual prodigy who exists on a plane above my peers.
Then there’s the second scenario: when I tell someone my age that I’ll be attending a top-tier academy, they seem to regress, acting even more foolish than before, which I find fascinating. In those moments, once they’ve convinced themselves that they sit at a lower intellectual level than I do, I could practically lead them anywhere; I could convince them that nine is actually less than seven—a banal example, obviously, but that’s the point. I could spout absolute nonsense, and they would nod along, refusing to even take a second to verify the truth. I’m curious about the root cause here. Is it driven by some deep-seated prejudice regarding prep school students and the prestige attached to them? I’m not saying I dislike having this advantage, but I’d love to understand the psychological mechanics behind why people surrender their agency like this.

Bee allergy help needed in Health ·
lonebadger6 said:I mean, why would anyone call you out? It’s not like you’re a doctor or anything—you don't need to know all that technical stuff.😉

When you're dealing with really intense allergic reactions, they actually do this thing called desensitization, which is basically the actual "cure" for the allergy.
It's pricey, takes forever, and all that... so people don't bother with it for just any minor allergy. Plus, it’s incredibly effective specifically for insect stings, but there's a pretty big risk it won't work for other types of allergies.

For specific bee sting desensitization, we're talking a 3-5 year commitment, and it works wonders—like, practically 100% for kids and maybe around 90% for adults.

I honestly had no idea it was that successful... I used to be into beekeeping for years, and I could handle plenty of stings without any issues, until about 4 or 5 years ago when the reactions just started getting worse and worse... I didn't pass out or anything, but the last random little sting I got on my finger made my whole face swell up... So, I finally gave up the bees and I don't really dwell on it much anymore... I did check in with my doctor, though, and he told me the therapy is only done at a specialized clinic in Washington, D.C., once a week, which is just... a massive hassle for me. Hmm... I guess I'm just not sure what to do.

Can I bring my medication on a plane? in Health ·
silvercanyon7 said:Look, you can technically bring whatever meds you need, BUT—and this is a huge but—you absolutely cannot forget to get your medical documentation sorted out in English. There are specific regulations and standard formats that have to be followed for this stuff. Most doctors should know the drill, but honestly, in some of our local clinics, things can get a bit messy and they might mess up the paperwork. Whatever you do, don't settle for a note written only in American—it won't cut it. And I’m pretty sure they get even more intense about it when you're traveling to other continents. So, seriously, don't even think about packing any heavy-duty prescriptions unless you have that official paperwork in hand. Since there's already an established diagnosis, getting the note shouldn't be that big of a headache, I guess. 🙂

There's actually a whole list of medications that could land you straight in a jail cell in the United Arab Emirates—literally—regardless of whether you have a doctor's note or not... Their laws are just... different.

It doesn't really matter which airline you're on—it's more about your route... like, are you just transiting or are you actually entering the United Arab Emirates...
