Laura Chavez93 said:I spent about half an hour talking to a contact over at Azop—he made it pretty clear there’s no point in pushing back, since the bank will just hide behind anti-terrorism and anti-money laundering laws indefinitely, reciting the same tired script over and over...
In short: the bank can essentially do whatever they please because they hold all the cards. There was no sense in me trying to go toe-to-toe with a wall of lawyers and legal jargon I don't even specialize in—I wouldn't have changed a single thing anyway.
It felt much simpler, and frankly easier, to just close my accounts and move my business to another bank.

Did they even ask you anything at all? And yeah, I totally agree—Wells Fargo has become a complete joke.

JPMorgan Chase has always been a special case, I guess... A few years back—maybe five or six?—I needed some official paperwork confirming my account balances. The lady tells me it’s gonna cost $10... So I told her, hey, no biggie, just close all my accounts and give me the cash instead (I don't mind waiting a few days to pick it up) so I can just show off the physical money instead of a piece of paper
.
Suddenly, this manager realizes she can just give me the confirmation for free...

Anyway, because of all the international wire stuff, I ended up ditching them and moved everything over to Bank of America. They’re way more flexible around here, plus all the big international groups (like the UN...) use them anyway...

Back at Bank of America, I handed over my FATCA info a couple of years ago—the teller actually walked me through exactly which details were required and which weren't—and since then, nobody has bothered me about it once...

$10 sending stuff to the US, dealing in dollars, and receiving payments from the US...

It’s not like anyone’s going to stumble onto an FDA manual on pet care and decide all animals need to be wiped out, yet a huge crowd thinks it's perfectly fine to show up on the alternative sites just to mock everything being said.

Got it. I don't really read up on or comment on magic, astrology, or that whole scene—just isn't really my thing, I guess.

Medjugorje—well, when you see things like that on na rub znanost... scienceSo, some thread just popped up about summoning demons while opening up tunnels... which, honestly, is a bit much even for this corner of the internet, I guess....you know, maybe we really ought to give this some actual thought for once.

Look, I’m totally against attacking anyone personally—really, I am—but when people start dropping these completely nonsensical claims without even having a basic grasp of what science actually is... well, I don't think it's wrong to point out how absurd it all sounds. Maybe even throw a little irony into the mix. No insults intended, obviously. Just being real.

There are actually some really fascinating topics floating around here that would be great to dive into—if people could just stay on track for once. But instead, everything immediately devolves into talk about anti-gravity blue pebbles, crystal suns, or those supposed universal equations of the cosmos... you know how it goes.

I mean, I’ve been thinking... maybe there's some connection between demons and the Moon—which, you know, is actually lightyears away from us. Or at least, that's what we're told. I guess it's all just a bit much to wrap your head around, isn't it? Maybe. 50 miles They aren't even close to being on the edge of science—not by a long shot. 🤷.

Maybe they should just rename the 'On the Edge of Science' PDF to 'On the Verge of Sanity'...

Without BAT, maybe even 'Beyond the Brink of Reason'...

As for astrology, magic, or mysticism—yeah, I’d probably rather stay out of all that mess😬

without any of those tedious questions regarding state regulations, money laundering, or terrorism... I have quite a bit to say about Laura Chavez93—that absolute fool from JPMorgan Chase who seems to think it’s his job to label anyone holding an account there as a criminal 🙂
ever since they started harassing people with those Swiss franc loans, they've become incredibly arrogant; frankly, the only way to handle them is to give them a taste of their own medicine

You really nailed it with that choice—those guys are absolute pros. 👍

I was scrolling through some news earlier and stumbled onto this piece about the latest fallout from that whole mess involving the big political players—you know, the stuff that always seems to blow up right when things should be settling down. It’s pretty wild how these legal battles just drag on forever, isn't it? Basically, there's this massive headache brewing over certain investigations, and it feels like everyone is just waiting for the other shoe to drop. It’s one of those situations where you start reading one thing and end up questioning everything you thought you knew about how the system actually works here in the States. I guess it’s just part of the landscape now—constant drama, endless hearings, and a whole lot of finger-pointing. It's kind of exhausting, honestly, if you think about it too much. Maybe I'm just being cynical, but it feels like we've been down this road before, only with different faces and the same old predictable outcomes. Anyway, just my two cents while I try to make sense of the chaos.

Honestly, I don't really get the point of this thread...

JPMorgan Chase gave me grief—like, serious hassle—about fifteen years ago, so I just pulled a decent chunk of cash out of all my accounts and shut them down... It was as simple as that...

I moved over to Bank of America, hauled my cash there, and then a few years back, I just answered some questions from the CIA regarding my ties to the United States and—voila—all good...

So, a couple days ago, I decide it's time to close my accounts at New York City (or whatever the name is...) and I emailed my contact at Bank of America asking her to prep the paperwork to move my Deloitte account over to them. The lady got everything ready, I signed off, and she actually offered to just mail the official docs to whoever needed them... The whole thing took maybe five minutes... Once that first Deloitte deposit hits Bank of America, I'm closing those New York City accounts for good...

Just close your accounts, head to a bank that actually treats you right, and you're done...

No, seriously, I don't see what the big deal is when it comes to just walking away from a bank you aren't happy with...

Laura Chavez93 said:I received a circular notice as well... I wonder if any bank other than Bank of America is being quite this aggressive with their clients?

I wouldn't call it a threat, really—more like they're just letting you know what's coming 😉... It's kind of like how you aren't obligated to do business with them, and they aren't obligated to deal with you either...

electricorca3 said:So, here we are about a year after you made that big claim that the bank can't do anything to you, and today I actually got a letter from Chase telling me I need to come in and provide updated info or else they’ll block me from withdrawing cash at ATMs and branches. It's one of those mass-mailed circulars—thousands of people probably got the exact same thing. Honestly, this kind of harassment from Chase has escalated to straight-up threats and extortion by withholding our own damn money. If anyone thinks I'm exaggerating, I can totally send over a scan of the letter. This whole system is getting more aggressive, the oversight is tightening up... pretty soon, they'll probably start threatening everyone who isn't microchipped that they won't be allowed access to their own bank accounts either.

Whatever, man. Just go hit them up, grab your cash, and walk away. Why let them mess with your head?

It’s just totally unprofessional.

Hey, whatever works, I guess—I actually know a really talented surgeon who lights up like a Christmas tree whenever she gets the chance.🤷

George Sanchez59 said:@Alexander Thompson - look, that doesn't mean you shouldn't visit, because honestly, someone else could wander into the room to see another patient and just end up coughing or sneezing right toward your dad.

You almost never have a total risk elimination strategy, but you can work on risk reduction... I'm certainly not trying to jack up the danger for my old man, but I can't exactly stop those idiots who ignore the Ban and come in anyway, just coughing and sneezing all over the place... I think I'd probably end up being moved to a different ward if I even tried to step in...

It's just risk management, man....
Hospital visitation bans in Health ·
Just got back from visiting my old man... and yeah, I just got hit with a nice little visitation ban right at the door...

Look, I definitely have ways to sneak in—I’m not saying I don't—but I'm really not planning on it. I mean, I figure a nasty bout of the flu from my old man could probably do some real damage... And if he actually needs anything, there's still his cell phone and ways to get stuff to him (I'll just be super polite and ask one of the staff members, I guess)🤷
Western Union in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Carl Nguyen5 said:He’s sending it directly to my USD account at Chase—how much is Chase going to charge me for that?

Carl Nguyen5 said:He’s someone I work with all the time—we usually just use direct transfers or PayPal, so there shouldn't be any issues.

I definitely don't want the IRS breathing down my neck over 2,600 dollars; under these new regulations, they'll squeeze anyone for no reason at all.

So, he'll send the Western Union online, pay a 30 dollar fee, and then I can just pick it up at the post office using an MCC number without extra commissions—is that actually doable?

If you could just make up your mind, answering would be a whole lot easier....
Western Union in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Just a little heads-up... I really hope you didn't give those folks your card number or the CVV, or maybe even a photo of the front and back?

I mean, if you both have bank accounts, you wouldn't even need Western Union, so the whole story feels a bit shaky to me 🤷

Let me know how it turns out 👍

Arthur Smith2 said:Is communism some kind of Appalachian weed that grows everywhere—a necessary crutch for any political debate? And seriously, do you honestly believe the government only watched its people back in communist regimes? You can't run from the state even in the afterlife—they'll be coming for your heirs until there isn't a single cent left to squeeze.

The underground economy? Sure, you can pretend—do odd jobs and have the boss pay you under the table.😂Imports of socks will go up.😂😂

The black market and tax evaders bleed the federal budget dry (and I won't bore you with the reasons: either they can't pay or they simply refuse). A few of my old classmates each owe half a million in back taxes. That money is supposed to be in the treasury—you know, that massive fund that ensures you have basic healthcare coverage and someone actually patches a pothole before you hit it and break your neck—don't you think?

Having worked closely with finance, I’ve noticed how much people in Appalachia love to cheat and play the victim. Based on their tax filings, you'd think they were scavenging for scraps every day, yet I see them decked out in designer clothes, expensive shoes, and high-end gadgets.

I'm not saying everyone does it, but there's this pervasive habit of dodging responsibility—which leads to billions in tax and credit debt—avoiding accountability—which causes an uproar whenever they have to settle a tax bill, report a tenant, or face financial scrutiny—and above all, a staggering amount of economic ignorance that feeds directly into financial irresponsibility. If I were making the laws, I’d crank up the oversight even more just to protect children from their reckless parents (who, frankly, I've had to bail out after they've already mortgaged their grandkids' futures). I might even experiment with requiring parents to justify every cent spent on their kids—that would lead to better-cared-for children and more peace of mind regarding child benefits, ensuring they aren't wasted on booze and cigarettes. The Scots tried something similar once, and of course, there was pushback.

I honestly don't know if you're even reading what you write because you're asking such bizarre questions—about what you can do with your own money? Look, funds deposited as salary have a legitimate source. If one of your accounts shows your full salary while another account suddenly receives a random lump sum, of course it’s logical to ask where it came from—it doesn't necessarily mean it's criminal! I'd much rather people focused on why there aren't more massive fines for all those people dodging the federal budget on a massive scale.

Do you seriously still believe you can operate incognito?

What are you actually afraid of if you're living an honest life? Did you report those Cayman Island funds, or is that just some dramatic figure of speech?

What's actually terrifying is the fact that people still don't realize they're under a microscope every single second—especially since most data isn't even secret anymore, and people hand over info without even being asked. Nowadays, it's not hard to find anyone in voter registration, property records, court filings, financial statements for a specific period, or even photos of family members (which everyone shares constantly on social media).

How exactly is your right to privacy being violated?

I have no idea what kind of data you were giving them, but they only asked me about extra income and real estate holdings (and that's true for every bank I use). If I can give the FBI my fingerprints along with biological traces—which is way more personal and invades my actual physical being—then I can certainly hand over some data about my income. It's not like I'm taking my petty assets to the grave anyway.

How exactly are Germany and the US politically, socially, or economically comparable?

Explain the math to me: if you have a salary of $2.00 and you move it from one account to another, where is the "double salary" coming from? When you transfer an amount labeled "salary" to your own second account, that transaction doesn't carry that label anymore—it's just a transfer between accounts owned by the same person.

If that actually worked, it would be the ultimate insult.

Clearly, it’s 😬....

Who cares about the other guy on the Mississippi, he’s wearing flip-flops while we’re going barefoot....
Alright, sweet!

Personally, when I was buying my place, I put down the deposit only after getting a written guarantee from the sellers that they’d clear all the liens—plus a clause stating they'd have to pay back double the deposit if everything fell through...

I hate to admit it—and honestly, I’m kind of terrified of being called a racist—but I still feel like any evidence they tried to pile up against me wouldn't carry much weight anyway😬

Walter Thomas18 said:This applies to legitimate income. The IRS doesn't care about that. They care about the money moving under the table—the stuff that bypasses the standard reporting forms.
If someone transfers money to your account that isn't labeled as salary or a professional fee, the IRS hasn't caught it yet. Now they might.
Let them. If you aren't cheating the government, you have nothing to fear. Since so many people choose to cheat, let them live in fear.

Yeah, obviously. I mean, what does an honest person have to hide from the all-seeing eye of the state? At this rate, I might as well suggest banning window curtains too, or putting elderly hall monitors in every apartment building... just so we can keep a little eye on who’s visiting whom. I guess an honest person wouldn't mind that either, right? ☕...
