I mean, I think Mamić actually has some solid potential, especially when he’s pushing forward on offense, but man, his defense? He’s got a ton of work to do there.
We seriously need to get Dominikovica onto the coaching staff. The guy spent years playing nothing but defense, so I bet he sees things on the field that everyone else is totally missing. Our defense looks absolutely pathetic sometimes—I mean, the other night we were literally falling apart at the seams, just completely wide open, and this guy won't change a damn thing.
I don't know about you guys, but I seriously disagree that Mamić was any kind of defensive beast. It was actually the exact opposite. Dule can definitely hold his own on defense and carries most of the load on offense too. Honestly, both him and Karačić deserve their minutes; the guy’s got real vision, he's tough in one-on-one situations, and he works great with the big man in the paint.
Fatigue probably played a role, I guess. If you think Babb did a good job, just take him home with you.
The guy basically screwed up everything he possibly could yesterday, and he's the main reason we lost.
I mean, what else can you expect from someone who starts rambling about Mary, his buddy Jesus, and Zlatko right after the guys pull off the game of their lives...
Fate really played a cruel joke on our little martyr, who got absolutely wrecked yesterday by none other than the Spanish Jesus, playing the game of his life in a national jersey.
rustywalker1 said:Phase two is already over and they’re already claiming to be "exhausted." Seriously? On top of that, the national team is constantly trying to swap out veterans for younger players. I don't know, maybe I'm just crazy, but how the hell do the older squads in other countries actually manage to hang in there?
🙄
Give me a break. We’re only two games in after that loss to Norway, and they're already starting with that tired excuse? Seriously? 🤣
Jonathan Barnes5 said:Who exactly did you beef up the roster with?.. Mamic ?..? Sebetic?.. Kozlina and Brozovic?.. That’s the whole issue, plus that goalie duo... They basically just left the guys who could actually make the starting seven back home. Broz signed with Kiel because they’re drowning with injured pivots, and HSV is going straight to hell... I think Anica signed too..
Yeah, sure, you "beefed up" the squad with Brozovic. Maybe our left and right wings aren't exactly elite upgrades, but honestly, I don't even see that being the issue today. Kopljar 4/4, Slišković 6/9. It's not like they were shooting 1/8 or anything, and we didn't have any decent subs to bring in anyway.
Babic lost this game, and it wasn't because the roster wasn't "beefed up" enough.
Jonathan Barnes5 said:Just one question... Okay, fine, we want a world-class coach... But who's actually paying for that? Unless we just settle for hiring Djetic again.. I mean, I’d love to have River, but man, he's expensive. The Federation doesn't even have money for bread.. Noka wouldn't show up for peanuts, and honestly, I doubt he'd even be motivated.. What about Wenta?.. Schwalb?.. Gislason?.. Vranjes?..
Nobody is asking for someone world-class. Just take the best option you've actually got. We had guys like Obrvan or Vujović sitting right there on a silver platter, and instead, we picked some guy's buddy. Look, I don't have anything against Babic, really, but for a head coach, you need the highest quality solution. Just compare Obrvan's resume to Babic's.
Matthew Perez27 said:It’s just frustrating because you could see we had the juice to take on the Spaniards, but our little guys just didn't play up to their potential. Fatigue and injuries are just excuses for losers and wimps. I don't get why people are bringing up Kopljar; the guy's been at an elite level for years and he's pure consistency. The issue is the goalie. Great keepers save things they have no business saving, and that's what carries a team. It hits different when you're playing defense knowing if the ball gets past you, it's game over, versus knowing there's an octopus behind you ready to bail you out. Making the semifinals is a win for this squad, and now we go against Norway to try and grab the bronze.
And seriously, give it a rest with the Virgin Mary stuff. He isn't some deep intellectual who can say anything more meaningful than "give it 120%." In a moment of total bliss, that's just what was on his heart, and he wasn't trying to offend anyone by saying it.
How exactly did he not offend anyone? 🤣
The Boys play the game of their lives, and then this guy starts rambling about The Virgin Mary, Lourdes, Jesus, and Zlatko. 🤦
Not one single damn word about the actual stars of the game. Honestly, he's the kind of coach you just wish you didn't have.
Jonathan Barnes5 said:We were talking about how much depth Spain has before this game too... and honestly, we don't have it. Mamic and Sebetic aren't even close; they're just kids. With the Spanish, I think their youngest guy is Dusebajev. But with us, not even a single pivot has actually matured in any real sense of the word.. So basically, we don't have a real rotation to keep up the pace, while they actually had that luxury.. On top of that, their supposed star player stepped up, but our guys choked again..
Where exactly are we lacking depth? We’re actually stacked with quality everywhere except maybe at left and right wing. Actually, even those guys aren't playing right. Kopljar was huge today, and Slišković was too. Marić is basically the best player over at Melsungen, he's out there crushing it in the NBA by dropping 6 or 7 goals a game, and Broz signed with Kiel. When are these guys actually gonna grow up? By the time they do, they'll be ready for retirement..
The whole thing comes down to the coach, who managed the game like a total lunatic. After Stivi gets us to the semifinals, he decides to start Cementar, who is never on the level when it actually matters. Spain can't score a single thing from the outside because everything is being packed into the paint, yet he keeps pushing that 5-1 defense..🤦
Edward Allen36 said:I caught the Spanish squad and that Garcia guy playing, and honestly, it's not even the first time he's stepped up. He got his minutes during the tournament and absolutely made the most of them. I hadn't really seen him before—practically a total unknown to me—but from what I saw, the guy is legit.
He's good, man. That nutmeg pass to Aguinagalde was pure class. 🙏 🙏 🙏
Paul Jones7 said:Basically, we just got wrecked by that fast second unit the Spaniards threw at us, featuring Garcia and Dusebajev. We actually held their first lineup—the one with Mexico and Canellas—pretty well; I think we could've taken them. But they’ve got this Plan B, this super fast rotation that just completely tore us apart.
Look, they've got a coach who actually understands the game, and you could see it clearly today. He's got an answer for everything—calling timeouts at the perfect moments, swapping out goalies... honestly, his tactical smarts is probably what won them the game.
So, I guess we’re looking at a golden era for the cement plant next year.🤣
The Spaniards? They're alright, I guess. Their goalkeepers are solid, and that little guy from Rivera is playing out of his mind. This is gonna be wild.
