Homophobic years, please just let me be. in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Jacob Allen said:Well, look, I can agree that the Politics subforum might not be the absolute best spot for a topic like this, but it’s a minor thing—though maybe not that minor since everyone picked up on the news.

Beyond that, I find myself wondering: what kind of message does it send when someone is labeled the "homophobe of the year"? Is it political? Religious? Sports-related? Media-driven? Health-related? Sure, homophobia can impact health, why wouldn't it?

If some public figure had been branded the most homophobic person in America back in 2013, what kind of message would that have sent?

Which subforum would actually be an appropriate place to open a thread and, you know, discuss this properly?

I mean, after five pages, someone just decided it wasn't worth it and wiped it out. No response, no image provided... nothing.🤷
At the very least, they could have moved it to a larger, more suitable thread and said, "Hey, we're discussing the homophobe of the year over here now," but instead... nothing. It just doesn't exist.🍿

What I'm saying is, there should be a broad, general thread where people can talk about this stuff.
Creating SPECIAL THREADS specifically for "Homophobe of the Year" or "Homofriend of the Year" seems like overkill to me.
Politics isn't the perfect venue, but yeah, right now, it’s basically the only option we've got.

And frankly, the way things are handled is unfortunately quite true. It's become common practice for the moderators on this forum to just delete posts without any heads-up. A single short message or a quick explanation via PM would solve everything.
But no, it seems they actually enjoy it when people complain, leading to debates and waiting around for a response from the mod team.🤷

Look, there’s no need to start a whole new thread over every tiny little detail;
If you want to talk about the LGBT community, advocacy groups, or anything related to those lifestyles, why not just start one massive, overarching discussion thread? Then you can all hash it out there...
Besides, honestly, stuff like that doesn't really belong in the Politics section anyway. It’s also just my take, but it feels like the current administration is being a bit too heterophobic lately, so they're letting just about everything slide through...
Politics Subforum - Complaint against an unknown moderator in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I don't want to overstep by meddling in this specific situation—that’s for the moderators to explain—but since we're already discussing it, I want to point out that this is exactly the issue I was highlighting earlier here:

Looking at things now, it seems nothing has actually been fixed. For instance, the topic about Valter Flego was just merged into the Orange County thread, yet plenty of other candidates still have their own dedicated discussions.
So, I'm bringing this up again because I really think this inconsistency needs to be addressed.

Emily Fowler52 said:There really isn't a viable way to make that work. The simple truth is that we're such a massive community with huge daily traffic that trying to implement an idea like that would be a nightmare. We’d just end up with a mountain of threads containing maybe one or two replies, and they'd be popping up faster than we could track them. Plus, a lot of people rarely venture outside their specific sub-forums anyway, so those "specialized" questions would likely just sit there unanswered.

I'm on the same page as the moderators here—this probably isn't the best move. It mostly comes down to what was highlighted above; we'd just be looking at a bunch of empty threads with barely any engagement. At that point, what kind of useful PDF would we actually have left?
All right, thanks for getting back to me.
Here’s my take: I’m a bit bothered by how the Politics subforum is laid out—specifically regarding the "Local and National Elections 2024" section.
The way it’s structured, there are main threads for all the states and the four largest cities, yet there are also several specific threads dedicated to individual candidates. For instance, we have a thread for Washington, D.C., but then we also have separate ones like "Hillary Clinton — candidate for... Washington, D.C." or "John Doe... for Washington, D.C." Similarly, we might have a thread for a specific state, but then an additional one titled "John Grubish... for [State Name]."
Doesn't that seem a little redundant? First off, these candidate-specific threads usually just turn into breeding grounds for either pure bashing or blatant self-promotion for a particular person or party. Beyond that, the discussions about the state or city eventually just bleed into the candidate threads anyway. For example, the actual state thread ends up being totally dead because everyone migrates to the Grubish thread to argue about who will win the state.
And thirdly, it feels a bit unfair to give certain candidates their own dedicated threads. Does this mean I can just open a new thread for every single candidate running in a given city or state?

Basically, I think the organization could be handled a bit more smoothly.
What am I suggesting? My proposal is to simply delete these few candidate-specific threads and move those discussions back into the main threads for the states and cities (since, again, discussing the candidate *is* effectively discussing the battle for that area). Alternatively, if we don't do that, we should at least make things equal and open threads for every single candidate—though I think that’s a worse option because it would create a massive, overwhelming number of threads.

These are just some thoughts of mine on how to improve the Politics subforum, and I hope they’ll be taken into consideration.
I also wanted to ask: what’s the rule regarding cities? We have threads open for the four biggest cities plus Warsaw, but where do we draw the line? Am I allowed to start a thread for somewhere like San Diego or any other city that's seeing interesting election activity?

You owe me a ban in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, I want to be fair here. I originally asked for a temporary suspension because I really needed to step away from the forum for a bit, but now I’m checking back in to make sure I settle everything I owe. I think I have maybe a day or two left on my remaining time—I'm not entirely sure of the exact count—so please feel free to go ahead and enforce the ban starting right now until my term is officially up.
