The Act of Killing (2012) in Movies ·
boldtiger7 said:You could have caught the look of silence in theaters recently; it's just as excellent, so I highly recommend it. It explores the other side of the story—told by the brother of a slain "communist," who conducts a series of interviews with the killers and those who aided them...

I actually found this follow-up even better. The conversations with the killers feel more intimate, heavy with their own discomfort, all captured with the vibe of a naturalistic feature film. I could be cynical and argue that with Oppenheimer, you can't tell if it's a great documentary or just a mediocre drama, but either way, you can clearly see the influence of Herzog in the production.

I'm not sure why I spend so much time hanging around here when most of this is just a massive waste of time.

It’s mostly just people taking themselves way too seriously while arguing over completely pointless topics.
New fossils. And then they chased me off to preschool...

If that's the case, you don't need a significant other in real life; you can just have them in your dreams.

But when people say they’re "looking," they mean a life partner. Someone with shared interests who acts as a catalyst for you, and vice versa—someone to enjoy the ride with. That's it.
A spark to burn through old habits and everything forgotten.

I actually have this woman appearing in my dreams quite regularly, though I haven't a clue who she is. I'm trying to pin her down. The vibe is unmistakable, but the face stays out of reach. It’s interesting; since consciousness is constantly talking to itself, these interactions are just masks—just another puzzle piece. Outer space arranges everything exactly how it needs to be.

Where's the rush, you eternal being?

I'm not going anywhere, but the OP and you clearly seem to be getting worked up just by being on this thread. There's nothing to be found in New Age spirituality, manifestation, or secret wisdom if that kind of thinking just leads to lying in bed daydreaming about a perfect wife. Don't get me wrong, dreaming is great when used creatively, but otherwise, it’s just avoiding reality—which isn't necessarily bad until it becomes a life philosophy without any action, or a total hallucination.

But look, I’m just letting outer space handle the logistics. It’s intense, heavy making love, and if both people aren't truly ready, it just won't click. So, honestly? When the time is right, it’ll happen.

Outer space is vast, and waiting for things to align takes forever. If you don't take intentional, purposeful action, nothing much is going to change. Spending time in specific social circles or pursuing hobbies that define you significantly increases your chances of finding someone compatible.

The funniest part had to be when that guy catches his friend with his wife; everyone is gathered around watching the chaos unfold while he just asks, "What the fuck are you doing?" And then she hits him with, "DON'T EMBARRASS ME!" Pure comedy. 🤣

By the end of the movie, he just loses it and shoots him. Haha.

This clip from Boogie Nights captures the essence of Paul Thomas Anderson's direction perfectly. It’s a masterclass in pacing.

I lost it during that scene where he’s talking about film editing while some guy is... well, busy with his wife right in the middle of the yard. He just can't focus and blurts out, "Are you kidding me? This guy literally has his cock in my wife right now—are you kidding me?" 😂🤣😂

That movie is wild. Paul Thomas Anderson is actually one of my favorite directors.
Magnolia, SNL...

Personally, among all the classic scenes, my favorite has to be when the three of them try to sell detergent to that high dealer under the influence—with that guy constantly setting off firecrackers, making them jump every single time they're trying to close the deal while the 70s soundtrack just keeps rolling. Man... I still crack up thinking about it.

Actually, it's an 80s track in the background, Nena's "99 Luftballons," haha. Great scene.
