crimsonpanther8 said:So, I’m hitting the three-month mark since my Operation, and honestly, I’m losing my mind because the tip still feels totally wooden. There isn't even a hint that it’ll actually feel like mine or be soft anytime soon.🙂 But hey, I’m happy with how it looks, so I guess I’ll just keep telling myself that the day will eventually come where the tip isn't just thick and stiff.
A friend told me it took her a full six months before her nose started looking normal again. And from what I've read online, you might need a whole year to see the final shape. It’s only been two months for me and my nose is still swollen, feels like wood, and hurts if I even touch it. Even if it doesn't settle perfectly, I've gotten so used to it that I don't even care anymore. :-)

I’m terrified to try any kind of scrub because everything still feels so raw. What should I put on my nose and the surrounding area without causing breakouts????????? Also, when those stitches in my nose fall out, will mine all still be there?
Hey, don't panic, that's totally normal. Tomorrow marks exactly two months since my surgery and the tip of my nose is still peeling a little bit. An exfoliant won't hurt you, obviously, as long as you aren't applying any pain. Just stick to a basic moisturizer. Nothing greasy, though—you don't want to clog up your pores. The day before yesterday, while I was cleaning my nose, a huge chunk of the stitches just came out. There’s actually just one tiny little piece left and then I'm done. It really just depends on how many you have.
crimsonpanther8 said:They used an external approach on me—the surgeon just decided that was the best way to handle what they were doing. It’s not a massive incision and you can barely see it, but they recommended using Contratubex. Honestly? It burns like crazy and the itching is unbearable, so I just stopped using it. I can't even get comfortable, and it's driving me absolutely insane.
Look, read the contraindications on the cream's packaging. If stinging and itching are listed as side effects, stop putting it on immediately and ask for a substitute. You might be reacting to a specific ingredient. Or maybe it's just part of the healing process... who knows? Just ask your doctor.

Now I feel like my nose is drifting to the right again, but I'm still pretty swollen so I can't be sure. I'll have to see the doctor in the morning... if something actually shifted, is it possible for them to fix it now while it's still fresh, or am I just talking nonsense?!
Look, whatever I say isn't medical advice. You really need to get to a doctor and have them take a look. I used to hit myself in my sleep all the time, but never quite that hard.
Way to go! Honestly, I’m just stoked you’re feeling better. At the end of the day, that’s the only thing that actually matters. I’ve got a checkup this Thursday. Fingers crossed it’s my last one...
Once you peel that bandage off, your nose is gonna start peeling too because your skin is basically protesting its existence. Honestly, mine is still flaking a little bit right at the tip.
electricangler32 said:Just wanted to brag a little—I can actually breathe through my nose normally again, and it’s only been 10 days. 🙂 The crust is finally clearing up. Whatever slimy gunk is left after rinsing, I just gently wipe it away with some gauze and call it a day. The only thing is, my nose itches like crazy. It's unbearable. :/
Seriously, the feeling is insane! It's like we've spent our entire lives walking around with a giant tick stuck on our noses. Sometimes it itches so bad, but I know I'm not allowed to touch it.
Honestly, that’s exactly why my doctor went overboard with the bandages after pulling out the nasal packing. He basically taped my nose into a specific shape just to make sure everything healed up perfectly symmetrical. I had to wear that "mold" for two whole weeks. Maybe there's something to that. My nose is still a little swollen, but honestly? It looks great. I didn't touch the bump—my surgeon wouldn't even go near it because he was worried about how narrow that part of my nose is—but he did shave it down a bit. I was terrified of how I’d look, and getting used to a new face was rough, but everyone who’s seen me says my nose looks amazing. And trust me, I actually agree. I'll see the final result in a few months once all the swelling dies down, though apparently, you need a full year to see what it's really going to look like 100%.
Karen Clark12 said:Ugh, reading all your stories about cleaning up after this... haha. Honestly, I'm kind of jealous you guys already got through it. My turn comes in two weeks and uffff.
Don't sweat it. Seriously. Once you finally get to breathe easy again, you'll be so happy that everything else just fades into the background. At least that’s how it worked for me. Good luck!!
As long as the nose stays clear, right? haha. I get this crazy dry feeling sometimes—maybe it’s the heater running constantly, or maybe just the air moving more through the house lately, who knows. Honestly, I don't overthink it too much. But I always make sure to slather on some Vaseline before bed. I used to be so paranoid about going outside because it was freezing out, and I knew that cold air would just sting my nose like crazy.
@crimsonpanther8/">@@crimsonpanther8: Three or four, but don't do them all at once. Take it one shot at a time. :-D @electricangler32/">@@electricangler32: Don't worry, you won't pull any threads out. Just grab a mirror and keep tinkering. I actually ended up trimming one of those little white threads—the ones that are supposed to just fall off on their own—because I was convinced it looked like a damn booger hanging out of my nose.
Don't sweat it, you'll be fine. Here's what I do: I tilt my head way over to the left—like, totally horizontal—and then blast the spray straight into my right nostril a few times. Then I flip my head to the right side and do the exact same thing with the left side. If everything is clear, the liquid should flow right through to the other side. If it’s blocked up (usually just some nasty congestion), it’ll either swirl back or head down toward your throat. It’s no big deal, doesn't hurt, just feels a little weird. :-D Personally, I like to follow that up by cleaning everything out with Q-tips and a bit of moisturizer, and then my nose is good to go. I usually rinse everything out in the morning and at night, plus whenever I need to during the day if a cold starts making things runny.
Honestly, I didn't even deal with scabs. At my checkups, they’d just vacuum out those little blackheads and patch up my nose, and that was pretty much it.
electricangler32 said:Look, I know I’m asking something that’s been asked a million times already, but what kind of drops were you guys using to get those crusts to actually fall off?? I ran into the pharmacy this morning but my brain just totally blanked on the name.🤔 Also, can they actually cause damage? I’m asking because all they gave me was saline to use in my nose. If those crusts aren't gone by my follow-up appointment in a week, is the doctor just going to scrape them off? I really, really want to avoid that.😳
I didn't get anything either. Just tons of saline rinses and some antibiotic ointment. Much later on, they gave me something to help moisturize the mucous membrane.
Ugh. Wishing you a super speedy recovery. Honestly, once those tampons are out, everything gets so much easier. It’s been exactly a month since my surgery today, and my nose still feels totally numb at the tip—plus it hurts if anyone even touches it. Can't even kiss anyone right now, hahaha! Good luck!
electricangler32 said:I actually spent 20 days in the hospital while pregnant once, and man, I totally forgot how brutal it is when people are constantly rushing around and you just can't get any sleep :/ Can you actually ask for sleeping pills in those situations?
Heh, honestly, I don't know about the meds. I'm pretty sure they'll give you something if you ask.
