Looks like this one actually keeps the colors from being over-saturated. Still, HDR on a monitor? Doesn't move the needle for me... unless we're talking OLED.

What kind of monitor are we talking about? For gaming? Some 4K high-refresh beast? There are a million different shapes and sizes out there.

That's the catch—they're everywhere, but most of them are junk unless you really don't care about quality...

I'm looking for a 27" IPS, 144/165Hz, 1440p, with lightning-fast response times—but without hitting a $1000 price tag. My top pick ended up being the Samsung Odyssey G5 (best response, great overdrive, HDR hits 450 nits though that's secondary, solid DP 1.4 bandwidth, decent ergonomics, plus good colors and a proper sRGB mode).

I've looked at the LG UltraGear or the AG500, but they both feel like a step down from the Samsung Odyssey G5... That new Samsung OLED Monitor is only available for preorder in the USA right now for $999...

The issue is that none of the decent stuff is actually in stock at the stores—everything listed for immediate shipping is backordered until 2023...

Exactly. The business model here is basically "never sell below cost, even if it kills you"—they'd rather just toss the stock. If they stocked them at price XYZ, that's the price they stick to, maybe dropping it by a tiny percentage later. That's why stuff sits on shelves for years with those insane original markups...

They only drop the price once they get a fresh shipment in. Plus, those initial margins are massive—easily over 30%...

It isn't like in the USA, where if a manufacturer cuts prices, everyone else follows suit because the manufacturer covers the gap...

That's just how it goes with pro software—you practically have to cherry-pick your graphs and drivers... until they finally decide to add some hardware acceleration or better optimization... maybe...

Because from what I can see, even NVIDIA (neither the 3060Ti nor the 3070Ti) is doing anything better.😉

Even the pro-grade Radeon Pro and NVIDIA Quadro cards look about the same if I'm reading this right... compared to them, the RX 6950 XT is 🙂

If you just skim the thread titles, it sounds like the end of the world... but honestly, take it with a grain of salt. Of course only the people having issues are posting here... I tried recording a screen capture once using the AMD software and everything was fine—until I realized some damn Windows update had swapped my AMD driver out for its own version...

I used some AMD SW briefly a while back—can't remember much now—but it worked fine and the quality was decent enough. Haven't messed with OBS specifically, but I know it works with AMD... maybe check the streaming thread if there is one...

Plus, I bought three rigs from Micro Center recently and they've been solid so far, but now I see they don't even carry a 3070 Ti which goes for $1767. They just have the 3070, which is $2133. I sent them an email asking if they'll get them in, but they gave me some vague answer like they weren't sure... who knows.

It hasn't been forever, but I recall there shouldn't be much trouble streaming on AMD—especially nowadays... though the codec names and all that stuff still trips me up. Someone else here will probably weigh in on that...

I've gotta plug in my AMD card first... 😉

Both shops are fine. I haven't had issues with Newegg, even if they can be a bit condescending sometimes—but look, you're buying a single card with a factory warranty. You have a right to return it within 14 days of delivery regardless of which shop you use or why, so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Either way, it's better than buying from Newegg's overseas sellers or those sketchy international sites shipping to the US.

Newegg has an RX6800 for about $1533, which might offer a slightly better price-to-performance ratio depending on what you're aiming for.

I'm looking at the RX 6800 TUF for $500. Honestly, I'm debating if ASRock holds up long-term... purely my opinion, but I don't see the 6800XT being worth $333 more. It's about not overspending—even though I could afford an NVIDIA RTX 4090, who actually buys those?
