Budget PC build under $3000? in Desktops ·
Honestly, you’d be much better off grabbing the rig from crimsonstag84 instead; the processor and graphics card are just a tier above. With his setup, you could actually run GTA V without breaking a sweat, and most other games would play fine on low to medium settings. An NFL head coach could probably manage a massive crowd of about 80k fans on that machine without any issues whatsoever.
I’m reporting Mingo for deceptive advertising. If you want the actual dirt on them, go check out the thread over at PC Expert—it's got all the specifics you need. Honestly, if I were looking to order something, I’d definitely be filing a formal complaint. You can't just let these people take your money and then never actually ship the product.

Those were the prices yesterday, anyway.😵

You could actually snag an N5000 for around $2,700 if you find the right deal, and it’ll come with a 1080p screen. I honestly can't say for sure whether that's a step up or a step down compared to the Ryzen 3 2200G, especially since that Pentium setup gives you four actual physical cores while the 2200G relies on SMT—meaning you're really just looking at two real cores and four logical ones. If it were me, I'd probably be leaning toward something similar myself.

I mean, there’s just no point in building a rig with $3000, that’s what I was getting at. It’s honestly pretty ridiculous that a build featuring $3000 is still trying to squeeze by on 8GB of RAM when we were already staring down the barrel of 2019 back in 2018. Personally, I’d much rather see someone shell out an extra $50 right now to grab a bigger SSD paired with 16GB of RAM, instead of dealing with the headache later when they realize their RAM sticks aren't compatible

Sacrificing 8GB of RAM just to squeeze out a larger SSD? Honestly, I don't see the logic there at all. It feels like a total losing battle to me.

Yeah, you just plug it into one of those USB ports that comes with the kit. It’s got two antennas, and honestly, I'm getting my full speeds now—I can play online with a way lower ping than I used to, and I'm pulling down 50mbit/s without any issues, which is basically the theoretical max on my cable plan anyway.

Man, please don't go with that TP-Link model mentioned above, I'm begging you. The signal was absolute garbage—at least in my house. I was barely pulling 20mbps. I ended up grabbing a much more powerful model for basically the exact same price, which was a total no-brainer.

And honestly, since I made the switch, I haven't had a single issue. I'm getting my full max speed even through two brick walls with about 15 or 20 feet of distance between us.

It’s the exact same engine. You should probably try testing it with something else, maybe Uncharted or something along those lines.

Honestly, go with the 1060 instead. It’s a significantly more powerful card, and you can usually snag one used that still has two years of warranty left on it.
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
If you’re seriously considering picking up a GTX 780, honestly, you'd be much better off just grabbing a GTX 1060 instead; they're way more efficient, you'll actually get meaningful driver support for a longer period, and most importantly, you'll actually have a valid warranty behind you.
Look, just grab that Intel Core i5-8400, the cheapest 2x4GB RAM kit you can find, and a B350 motherboard that’s already been flashed for that CPU—just make sure to ask whoever you're buying from if the BIOS is ready. Toss in a 120GB SSD, a decent 350W power supply, and whatever case fits what's left of your budget.

It really depends on where you're shopping, because honestly, there's no point in me dropping links to Best Buy if you're planning on picking everything up over in Canada. Just list out which stores you actually have access to and we can try to put something together that makes sense.

It’s entirely possible they just picked up some kind of coin miner

It’s sitting at 36 degrees Celsius while idling, but once I jump into heavy gaming sessions for about 3 hours—where I'm constantly pushing the GPU to 99% utilization—it climbs up to 57 degrees Celsius.
So, why wouldn't you just go with this one?

It’s got an i7, 8GB of RAM, a dedicated graphics card, Windows 10, and a 250 GB SSD.

*Just a heads up: the thing was only used for a couple of days before someone had to fix the speaker, and they slapped the wrong spec sticker on the box. It’s still under warranty through May 1st, 2020.
