Yeah, the new season is kicking off and nobody’s playing it too crazy yet. Randers brought in a new striker and left back, while Sonderjyske beefed up their defense with a solid holding mid and a decent center back. Randers also has a new manager—an Englishman who used to play center back and apparently loves a defensive setup, which helps these picks. Plus, looking at their last 7 head-to-heads, they've hit under 1.5 goals in the first half every single time, and it happened in 9 of their last 10 total games. Also, 8 of their last 10 ended in a draw. Good luck, everyone. ☕

First off, I’m not expecting much scoring from these two. Their offensive additions have been pretty underwhelming. I caught some of LAFC's preseason games, and they looked pretty toothless in the first half—if I remember right, at least two matches were deadlocked 0-0 at the break. They're missing Lasse Nielsen due to suspension, plus Kayke and Nicholas Thomas are out with injuries. LAFC hasn't changed much either; besides bringing in Thelander at center back, they've kept the same core. No major departures that I could find. On the flip side, the Galaxy brought in some young loanees, but the foundation remains the same. Last season they were busy in the transfer market, but this year looks thin. Both teams are sticking with their veteran coaches, so I expect them to play the same old way. And looking at their history, their last four matchups ended in a draw.

First off, I’m not expecting much scoring from these two this season. Their offensive additions have been pretty underwhelming. Westbrook is going to finish under 6.5 assists tomorrow because he’s just not that much of a playmaker. Against Dallas this season, he’s averaged 3, 3, and 4 assists. @1,85 feels like a steal to me.

Atlanta-Boston 4-3
Atlanta’s got Johnson and Smith ready to go, plus if Zaza comes back, they'll be solid. Probably 4-2 for Boston if they can pull off a sneaky win on the road, but if it goes to 3-3, Atlanta takes it.

Miami-New York 3-4
There’s gotta be an upset here, and I'm leaning toward the New York Knicks. Melo is playing out of his mind right now, and Stoudemire really needs to step up and give it his all in the playoffs.

Chicago-Philadelphia 4-0
As much as I like Phil, they're just too weak.

Indiana-Orlando 4-0
Indiana is just too strong—maybe even a contender—while Orlando is falling apart.

Memphis-LAC 4-3
I'm banking on home-court advantage across the board.

LAL-Denver 4-3
Whichever one of these two makes it through is basically the favorite to win the West. Denver is young, fast, and killer at home, but then you've got LAL with Kobe and maybe the most dominant duo under the rim in the whole NBA.

San Antonio Spurs-Utah 4-2
Home court will probably be the deciding factor, but I think the Spurs have enough juice to steal one in Salt Lake City.

Oklahoma City Thunder-Dallas 4-2
Dallas showed they can hang with Oklahoma this season, so this should be an interesting series. I'll go with Oklahoma though, since Dallas has been struggling lately.

Anthony C (-27.5) is a total blowout. Expecting a massive comeback from the underdog here.

Spurs -6.5 vs Lakers 1.85... Kobe’s back. If the ball keeps spinning like it has the last few games, we might actually pull off a double.

Cleveland (+8.5) vs. New York (-1.85) Cleveland’s got key players on the injury list, but honestly, nobody seems to give a damn. Rough matchup.

Smith J. at -16.5 is a tempting play against Boston. Even though Bass is an elite defender, Smith always seems to go over when the stakes are high.


First off, you might want to rethink that take on Anthony. How can you be so sure it’ll be a blowout? Especially since we’ve already seen one of those "sure things" fall flat. Look, Amare is coming back, so if you're looking for a reason to bet the under, there it is.

Second thought—regarding the Lakers: how can you claim they’ll pull this off without Kobe if they're playing like they have been lately? They just got blown out by 15 or 20 points at home by the Spurs. Honestly, that’s one of the dumbest takes I’ve read in a while.

You’re totally off on that Cleveland-Knicks game. You're giving out wrong info—Irving is finally back for Cleveland, and as for everyone else? Either they’ve been sidelined for ages like Curry or they’re just replaceable bench pieces like Gee. As for what you said about the Knicks needing this win, they aren't fighting for the 7th seed; they already locked up a playoff spot, so of course they cruised last night. That "battle" for the 7th spot isn't even a race; it’s just the Knicks front office deciding whether they'd rather face Chicago or Miami.

Grega's better than what Detroit's got going on.

Minnesota's missing guys like Jokic, Nurkic, or Love, and Grega’s just averaging about 16 anyway. Detroit’s actually looking decent after winning 3 of their last 5 at home, while Minnesota looks like they've gone 12 straight losses.

It really depends on when Novak or Jeffries get their minutes. When three of them are out there, they cover more than half the game, and even when they aren't, the rotation is still super weird. It usually ends up with someone getting stuck in an isolation play that just doesn't fit them.

If you want a little bit of wisdom from me, here it is: just bet on what’s actually going to happen. It doesn't matter if it's an over or an under. For tonight, I'd look at these...

Carmelo Anthony over 27.5 @1.85
-He's on fire right now. He dropped 37 on Boston in his first game at MSG this season, and without Lin or Stoudemire around, he'll probably go out and grab 35+ again. Besides, Pierce isn't exactly known for lockdown defense, especially now that it's not the Playoffs.

Parker under 17.5 @1.85
-His last four games were 8, 14, 13, and 4—and that 4 was against the Lakers. He's struggling, and ever since Ginobili came back, he's taking way fewer shots. Statistically speaking, the under hits more often than the over anyway, so I'll take that.

Henderson has hit the under in his last three (12-8-14), and he usually struggles more on the road than at home.
Pierce put up 23 against Miami in the first one; his last three were 17-24-22, though that 17 came in way less than 30 minutes since they were up big.
Going Evans just because of the odds and the fact that Thornton is out plus Kidd is just getting back into the rotation.
Anthony—you saw him the other night. Don't see why anything would change today, let alone him scoring more than 15.
The Knicks won the other night and they're feeling themselves. They're missing Rose, so the odds are just too good to pass up.

So, if I were actually putting money down today, here's what I'd pick...

Indiana vs. New York: Home win @1.50
Cleveland vs. San Antonio: Away win @1.25 (Spurs could easily end up with the best spread in the league; even though they face the Celtics tomorrow, I don't see them dropping this, especially since they had two days off)
Memphis vs. Golden State: Home or Draw @1.25 (just a safety net—I have a weird feeling this one might go to overtime 😬 ...it's Memphis' second game in a back-to-back-to-back situation; they finally got some payback against OKC yesterday, but they've got the reigning champs tomorrow. James Taylor3 already gave his take, and Tony B. is on it 🙂)

-Line feels too low. With Maggette listed as doubtful, Iggy should have an even easier time getting his numbers.

Charlotte +15.5 @1.30
-A lock in my book. Expecting a low-scoring affair, maybe around 170-180 total points. If Philly gets ahead, they'll likely lean on the bench, which should help Charlotte stay within 15. Plus, Charlotte's last 12 home games saw them stay within 9, and their three recent losses were all by fewer than 10.

-Pretty evenly matched teams here. NJN is struggling right now—they just dropped games to NOH, losing 94-90 and then 94-102.😕
