If I remember correctly, H2 Shop is basically a small-time competitor to Best Buy, and they can be a bit cheaper sometimes...

Run a RAM test. Windows actually has MemTest built right in, and you shouldn't see a single error in the results...

People constantly assume their system is infected with malware just because some process is eating up CPU cycles or hogging bandwidth. In reality, it’s often just a legitimate Windows process doing its job and using those resources. It works the same way with drivers. A driver doesn't necessarily have to be malicious or broken; it might just be trying to write data to a corrupted segment of your RAM.

I’ve got one Fortron Aurum S 400W power supply on hand—it's an 80+ Gold rated unit.
I’ve got one INTER-TECH PCD-01 Black Midi Tower chassis on hand. It’s an ATX case featuring two USB 3.0 ports and standard HD audio. Just a heads-up, the power supply isn't included.
I've got one Dell UltraSharp U2414H 24-Inch monitor available. It features a 1920x1080 resolution with an IPS Antiglare screen. Response time is 8ms. Connectivity includes 2x HDMI, DisplayPort 1.2, and a Mini DisplayPort. It has a standard 16:9 aspect ratio.
Total: $2675

Alright, Zero, you’ve actually put together a pretty solid lineup this time around. These components are looking respectable. To really round this out and get the most out of it, I'd suggest adding a 240GB ADATA SP550 SSD. That would be the perfect finishing touch.

Total: $2690

Honestly, this monitor is way overpriced. I’m looking at it and I just don't see what justifies that kind of price tag. $333 It honestly feels like you're getting more for your money than someone buying from a different brand with the exact same specs... but still...

If you're looking at the AOC Q2778VQE, you’ve got a solid contender on your hands. It’s a pretty sharp piece of hardware that hits that sweet spot for anyone wanting to upgrade their visual setup without breaking the bank. The 27-inch screen size is arguably the perfect middle ground—large enough to feel immersive for things like World of Warcraft, but compact enough that you aren't constantly straining your eyes to see the edges. Since it's a QHD panel, the clarity is a massive step up from standard 1080p setups. Everything looks crisp, which makes a world of difference when you're deep into productivity work or just browsing the web. One thing I really appreciate about this model is how well it handles colors. It’s reliable, consistent, and makes everything pop just the right amount. It doesn't feel like one of those cheap monitors that washes out the moment you shift your viewing angle. If you're coming from an older display, the jump in quality here is going to be immediately obvious. It’s a dependable choice for a modern workstation or a mid-range gaming PC build. You get great resolution, decent sizing, and a level of detail that makes the whole experience feel much more premium than its price tag suggests. Definitely worth a look if you want to level up your desk setup. If you're setting this up specifically for a gaming PC, that 1ms response time is exactly what you want.

Check out this LG monitor on Amazon. It’s a solid choice if you're looking to upgrade your desk setup. If you're looking to dive into movies or just need a massive amount of screen real estate for work, this setup is definitely worth considering.

Matthew Anderson said:He doesn't need an i7, and he definitely doesn't need dual Xeon setups. Thanks for trying, though.

In that case, there's really no point in talking about 8K, especially if we aren't including the drives... a standard processor can handle 4K just fine.

Wait, am I supposed to include the monitor in this price?
Gaming PC build under $8k? in Desktops ·
1) A top-tier i7 with that "+" designation paired with something like a GTX 1070 if he just wants to stick to the classics.

2) Or, if he really wants to go all out on the extravagance, go with a dual Xeon setup plus a GTX 1060. That card should be a perfect match for his monitor's resolution, and those two Xeons will definitely help him stay future proof.

crimsonstag84 said:$400 he still has it, but without a GPU, he'll just be left with $467 plus a much better power supply and case. That doesn't really matter since he isn't buying anything for a month or two anyway.

Alright, alright. Let Nisan argue if she wants to, but it just hit me—if she goes with that, she won't have any video output at all until she picks up a dedicated graphics card.

He could probably just grab this right now and then just upgrade his GPU later on... he'll still have $433 some cash left over
to put toward it.

It sounds to me like you're dealing with a power issue. You might want to try what wiredotter14 suggested and just swap out the battery; it’s a pretty cheap fix. But honestly, before you go dropping money on a brand-new power supply, double-check your electricity first. Make sure your surge protector is actually working and that the wall outlet itself isn't faulty.
mellowtiger83 said:So you hate Apple? I feel the same way. Ever since I realized my buddy's Apple setup had specs half as good as my PC, yet was two generations older and still ran absolutely faster than mine, I've felt that way. It’s just faster. Video, photos, music—processing just runs better on Apple.

In terms of design and software, they are Superior to any PC. You could build a custom rig for $2,000 with components twice as powerful, and it would still be slower than Apple for that price. It simply is what it is.

You’re talking about small form factor cases, Zotac mini PCs, and things like that—stuff Apple mastered and put into mainstream use ages ago.

I mean, do you even know how long the mini Macintosh has been around or how small it actually is?

So, you aren't wrong. I also hate Apple for that very reason 🙂. It’s easy to hate something that is Superior
.

I never claimed any of that, and frankly, you have no idea what I'm talking about. I don't hate Apple, I just find them distasteful. Going into the full reasoning would be way too off-topic, and honestly, it has nothing to do with anything you just wrote.

darkowl72 said:Everything is heading that way; it’s just a matter of time. Once the power draw for desktop components drops enough to be handled by a little "power brick" like you see on laptops, we'll finally be there.

You’ve already got some pretty decent SFX power supplies out there, like this Silverstone model, and low profile CPU coolers are a thing now. All we're waiting for is someone to get smart and rotate the GPU PCIe connector 90 degrees... 😬 we're getting close...

True. I’d be happy with the Zbox from the original post, but it’s insanely overpriced... kind of like Apple. Plus, I don't feel like hunting through specialty shops for motherboards, power supplies, and all that gear, and I don't exactly have the cash for it right now anyway. I was just curious if it was possible, and now I see it is.

I actually have a few different setups running. I pick things up here and there, just keeping things moving.😁

I’m an honest guy about it, though. I enjoy helping people out by pointing them in the right direction, and sometimes they do the same for me.👍

Well, then you go ahead and find someone to buy my rig.

That processor of yours is a decent match for that GPU, though a quad-core would definitely feel more balanced....

I've got an LGA 775 motherboard.

Honestly, I could probably pick that Intel Xeon up with my eyes closed. It's a solid deal, but still...

If you're watching every single penny, and the processor works and fits your board, then why not?

Though, I have no idea what CPU you're running right now.

I'm going to go down a rabbit hole on Google looking at multi-processor workstations. There are some Opteron chips out there with insane clock speeds for next to nothing.

mellowtiger83 said:Jeffrey Allen92, maybe you're from Los Angeles because I think we might know each other 🙂. I'm a little skeptical about that Intel Xeon setup you mentioned.

Look, I'm not trying to sell you anything, don't worry about that.😬

I just typed "q6600" into the search bar on Craigslist. I figured it would be a cheap option, and the search results pulled up that Intel Xeon too... I even saw a GT 630 for $83... honestly, it's a total rip-off 😁
.
That said, it really is old junk. The build those guys put together—that whole tower with the quad-core 7600 underneath $667—is actually a pretty solid little machine. If you stick with Intel, all you'd get for that kind of money is a quad-core N3150 and a GT 730, and that processor is weaker than the AMD solution. Even with an Intel Pentium N3700, it wouldn't hold up as well, though you could probably build the entire PC with passive cooling that way...

They were right, not me. The CPU is definitely the bottleneck. The best consumer i7s out there today hit around 210 GFLOPS according to LinX testing results... meanwhile, a high-end graphics card can push 20 TFLOPS...
mellowtiger83 said:*claps*🙏 I like it. Just look at the new Apple lineup; that's the standard. Forget raw performance if you don't have that "wow" factor. I've always said it, and I'll say it again. I’d rather compromise on specs up to a certain point if it means I get a beautiful chassis.

Besides, Apple came up with this aesthetic first, and now everyone else is just playing catch-up.

mellowtiger83 said:You can also pick up a case at Best Buy, since Micro Hard handles the imports, and honestly, throwing in a low-profile GTX 750 Ti wouldn't be a bad move😁. Then you can just show off a little to the neighbors and friends, I suppose. Heh

I don't care about making things smaller; I just think it's a cool concept. If nothing else, I can toss it in my pocket whenever I head to a LAN party. Honestly, I’ve grown pretty tired of Apple, and I wouldn't call myself a huge fan of Intel either, but this APU is something special. After digging into it following that whole debate, I realized the i3 is way too expensive for such pathetic graphics. Meanwhile, AMD offers an Athlon with four cores at similar speeds for half the price. $67 It offers more processing power and better graphics than anything in NVIDIA's current lineup, including the 400 series.$167Once that next generation drops—the one pushing way more teraflops while hopefully cutting the TDP in half—it’s going to be an absolute beast. Honestly, it'll be such a steal at that point. If I can actually slide something that powerful right into my pocket? That's the dream. For me, nothing else is even going to come close.

How does a GT 630 2GB DDR3 stack up against an old ATI 4670 512MB DDR3? Would it actually be faster or not? Thanks. Keep it short and sweet.
