What are VOB and DVD Data Folder files for? in Software ·
Well, if you’d just led with that, we wouldn't be sitting here wondering.
It's most likely that the audio got trashed during the "recovery" process, which is my best guess and honestly feels pretty certain at this point.
It looks like someone went out of their way to scrub the physical evidence, so getting this back to its original state is going to be an uphill battle.

Let's take this step by step
Adam Wilson3 said:I've got this video file on a USB drive in .vob format. It plays fine, but there's no actual audio, just static. Any idea how I can get the sound back?

That sounds like someone already processed the original camera footage specifically for a DVD player, which explains why it’s sitting there in a VOB container. If you actually had the original DVD this was ripped from, you could check if the audio was even there to begin with, but since we don't, all we can do is speculate about where the sound actually went.

Adam Wilson3 said:I checked Gspot, and the program claims both the audio and video codecs are installed. I tried playing it through Gspot—which just launched VLC Media Player—and it's the same story: the video runs, but the audio is nothing but noise.

So it isn't a matter of your PC being unable to decode the audio; the VOB file itself is just broken.

Adam Wilson3 said:It was recorded on a camera, and it had perfectly fine audio on my old computer before this was recovered after a deletion... It's not some adult movie 😁, it's work-related stuff, so the audio is crucial—maybe even more important than the video itself.

After what kind of deletion? Where was this pulled from, a high-end workstation? Didn't you mention earlier that someone handed you this VOB?

You'd solve this instantly if you had the raw footage straight from the camera, but I'm assuming that's gone. You could try running the VOB on a different computer and praying you hear something other than white noise, though I wouldn't hold my breath. Or maybe try some VOB repair tool—I haven't messed with those, so I can't really help there. Otherwise, you might just have to accept that someone screwed up somewhere along the line.😉

Great, now the emoticons are working. 🙏

Did he even get what I was saying? Do I really look like some amateur to you? :-) Forget about those stupid emojis, they're useless

There’s a chance that file you received doesn't even have an audio track to begin with. If someone edited it and there was noise in the original source, you're basically stuck. There isn't much you can actually do. Your only real move is to strip the audio entirely and layer in some background music, though that depends on what kind of video we're talking about. If it's just some adult animation, then it's no big deal—you can easily pull audio from any other similar clip

JB-Te ali I miss those damn emojis :-(

Who says there's no sound? 😁
Static counts as sound if you listen hard enough. 😉
Best software for batch resizing images? in Software ·
Austin Lopez71 said:I don't mind resizing images one by one, but I really need a tool that lets me batch process a whole group at once. For example, if I select about 30 photos, I want to set them all to roughly 800 x 600 and just hit go. Can any of those programs mentioned above actually handle that?

You asked for a "batch image resizer" and I literally gave you the link to a program that does exactly that. Wouldn't it have been faster and much easier to just glance at the description instead of reposting the same question here and waiting around for an answer?
I can only assume the next question on the horizon is how to actually operate the software. 🙄

It's free and honestly gets the job done just fine.

It’s not like it can fix absolutely everything, can it? 😁
Besides, why not just go back to Microsoft Office 2003? 😉

Benjamin King2 said:Try going into AutoCorrect, hit on Exceptions, and then just dump all the numbers from 0 to 9 followed by a period into the "don't capitalize after" field.

Honestly, it’s way easier to just go to the other tab and add an exception so it stops capitalizing the word "year." Problem solved. You can also toss in "yr" if you prefer using abbreviations.

Microsoft Word 2007 just follows its own logic where anything following a period triggers autocorrect, so it treats "year" like the start of a brand new sentence and capitalizes it. Why they stripped out the option we had back in Microsoft Office 2003... who knows?

There’s actually a shorter way to do this, just keep an eye on that blue arrow sitting right under Gyear

Don't mention it. All those other shortcuts—adjusting the volume, muting, whatever—they all work using that same logic. "Fn" is just short for function. 😉

The Fn key should be sitting right there on the bottom left—I think it’s the second one from the edge. Just hold that down and hit Print Screen
Monitor issues: Repair or just buy a new one? in Computer Peripherals ·
Bryan Evans77 said:That monitor is practically begging to be upgraded to a 16:9 widescreen setup...
and since we clearly can't talk him out of it, maybe it's finally time to just get him a new one... 😁

Honestly, you might be right; he's a stubborn one. 😁

@taipan, fair point—take it to the shop for an estimate first, then decide if it's worth fixing.

Thanks for the 17" 😁,
The one I’m using up here is on my backup rig, an old 19" machine. It actually puts out a decent picture—excellent, even—until things start 😁 halfway through. The only issue is that the geometry is completely shot.

The title and the photo above pretty much tell the whole story. I’ll get this screen to pop up randomly—sometimes right when I boot it up, other times after an hour of actual use. A little tap on the top of the monitor seems to wake it back up, but don't expect it to stay that way for long. I've already ruled out the GPU and the cables, so it isn't those.

Do any of you experts think it's actually worth trying to fix this thing, or should I just haul it straight to the local e-waste center?
