If you're running at Full HD resolution, then I guess so 😉

For $500, $200 I’d say look at the used market; nothing brand new is going to be much of an upgrade over your 8800GT anyway...

Grab the cheapest 😛

It’s a bit weird to say, but I probably wouldn't buy from HGA. Out of the three parts I picked up there, I had to fight them for three months just to get the warranty honored on two of them 😂

That’s nothing for a light overclock... I'd say bump it up by 7-8 MHz and try to boot, then just check CPU-Z to see if the higher clock speed is actually registering, and repeat. I guess I would personally stop at 220 (if it still runs on stock voltage), then maybe run a quick stress test, like Prime95.

You're working with the biggest possible bucket of a motherboard that officially only supports 95W TDP processors... so naturally, you can't just crank up the clock speeds without messing around with the FSB/DRAM ratio and core voltage. But I guess you shouldn't try that until you pick up a better board; maybe you could just leave it sitting around at 3.5-6 GHz...

I remember that thread, I think we were putting it together about two years ago 😁

Don't sweat it; that CPU should handle a CrossFire setup with 2xNVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 without any issues. If you find you need more headroom, you’ve got a solid motherboard and that i5 is actually a great overclocker, so maybe you could squeeze out some extra juice if you grab a decent cooler 😉

The price of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 7950 will probably top $2,000, but it'll be a massive jump compared to what you're running now (even the HD 6950 is quite a leap from this one) 😉

I’m a bit confused about how Spyware managed to pull those numbers on this Bug, because every other review shows the HD 6870 being significantly faster, yet here it looks completely reversed... 🤷

Still, I agree you probably shouldn't swap it out just yet. Just keep saving up; word is the HD 7950/7970 might drop around September 9th. 😉

Have you tried to OCati it? It is a Black Edition, after all, and the HD 5xxx series were actually decent overclockers. 😉

Jacob Jones782 said:Quick question: what's actually the difference between Intel HD 2000 and the HD 3000 integrated graphics?
P.S. Can I even run modern games on these, maybe just on low settings?

The HD 3000 is a bit better, but honestly, don't expect to play anything demanding, even on low...

An AMD APU could probably handle low settings without much trouble, though you won't have any real room for upgrades on that type of platform. 😉

Personally, I’d go with the GTX 550 😉

EDIT: 😂 Based on what? 😵

The HD 3850 definitely packs more punch than the HD 4650... 🤷

It probably isn't worth paying extra just to get 1GB of VRAM; it bumps the price up way too much...

This one is noticeably more powerful and seems like a good match for that processor 🙂

The only catch is my rig is pretty ancient—an AMD 2.3 with just a gig of RAM. I think the PSU is around 400W, but I’m at work right now so I can't be certain (will edit later).

Basically, is it even worth grabbing this card given my current setup?

I was planning on building a whole new PC, but probably not until spring because HDD prices are crazy right now, and honestly, money is a bit tight.

I'd mainly be playing the newer PES, GTA 4, and whatever Call of Duty titles are out, like Modern Warfare 1, 2, or 3.

Given everything else in your build, I don't think it's worth it... First off, that RAM is going to bottleneck you hard; it's way too low for modern games. As for the CPU, I'm guessing it's an Athlon X2 4400+ or something similar? It'll likely be too weak to actually tap into what that GPU can do. Plus, if your power supply is just some old junk (like MS, Codegen, aMaze, or LC Power), it probably won't even handle the load from that card.😁

EDIT: I mean, there are hundreds of different power supplies out there 🙄 😂

What kind of budget were you looking at?

The store is right there in the link...

My CPU is an AMD Athlon(tm) X2 250 3.00 GHz
RAM: 2 GB

Not really... that's a bit weak.

Maybe try looking at something like this instead:

Around 30%... on average, it’s a pretty solid deal, though it definitely has its quirks. I guess if you're strictly looking for raw power...

Andrew Fox74 said:So, you think buying another 8800 GTS on eBay for like $50 would somehow make me happy? I guess that's one way to look at it.🤷

Then the processor is going to stutter like crazy, since it’s barely even breaking a sweat using just one core... I guess.

You're in luck—your board supports AM3 processors once you update to BIOS 5002. You might want to look into something like this:

One Intel Core i5 processor, AM3 socket, retail box, 2MB cache, 95W.
One XFX HD6770 850M with 1GB of GDDR5. It’s got DVI, VGA, and HDMI ports—HDMI 1.4a, specifically—plus PCI Express and DX11 support.

1.$176

What kind of power supply are you running? If it's really old or just some low-end budget unit, I guess it might be time to look into a replacement...

Maybe consider another card as an option... it would be used, power-hungry, and a bit older, but I guess it’s way more powerful than the HD 6770.

Found this listing on Craigslist for an Nvidia GeForce GTX 560. Looks like a decent deal if you're looking to pick one up locally.

Benjamin King2 said:The only thing like this you'll find from AT&T:

I guess Nvidia doesn't have anything better in this price bracket, unless you can somehow stretch your budget $27 a bit more to grab this one, which would definitely be worth it:

That HD 6790 has a really solid cooler; I might just grab it right now for $300 cheap 🙂

But if you can afford to go higher, you should probably go with the GTX 😉

I think this might actually be the better deal 🙂
