What GPU are you running now? You skipped over the most important part 😬
I doubt anything will be an upgrade since the AMD Radeon HD 5450 is basically just for getting a signal to your monitor; for actual gaming, it's pretty much junk 😛
Brian Wilson said:Thanks for the reply. I'm looking at the AMD website and it says this card needs a 500W or 600W power supply, so I'm a bit confused... I have some friends who went out and bought 1200w units for setups that are basically identical, if not actually weaker.🤷
😂😂
I guess they just threw $1,000 down the drain then. 😬
I guess this one performs a bit better than the HD 6670... the power supply is total junk, but since this card isn't exactly a power hog, it might just hold up.
The GTS 450 with 512MB actually uses faster memory (GDDR5), so it’ll probably outperform the 2GB model with GDDR3, unless you're trying to push a 2560x1600 resolution 😬
Lawrence Wright3 said:So, what do you think about this Sapphire HD 6570 1GB GDDR3? I found one for $183... I wonder if my current rigs could even handle it?
You can grab it for $150 too... either way, it's definitely a step up from the GT 520, which honestly isn't much better than the Intel HD 3000 IGP 😬
By the way, check out post #4013; there's an HD 6670 with GDDR3 listed for $167. It’s got significantly more raw power than both the GT 440 and the HD 6570.
You’d probably get more out of adding another 1GB of RAM... maybe see if you can find some used 1GB DDR2 800MHz sticks. As for the power supply, it'll likely handle the graphics card, assuming you didn't just pick up some cheap junk recently 😬
The HD 7870 will probably sit right around the price point of the HD 6970, so there’s really no way it'll be $567. I'm guessing the HD 7850 might land just under $667...
EDIT: Usually here in the States, when you're looking at tech pricing, you should probably factor in about $1 = $2.75 .
Larry Ortiz5 said:I used this power supply and it runs an AMD Radeon 6950 2GB just fine without any issues🙂
😵
That isn't even the V2 version and it lacks an 80+ certification. Honestly, the XFX 450W is cheaper and significantly better, not to mention the Mushkin 500W which is about twenty bucks less. -.-

What are you playing? Newer titles or something else? I'd probably look at something like this: http://www.amazon.com/graphics-card-example If you aren't running anything too demanding, maybe a cheaper, quieter (passive) solution would work too.
A decent GPU for a build, I assume—maybe an Intel C2D E6400? You can actually overclock that pretty nicely; you could probably push it to 2.5GHz on stock voltage and the stock cooler, which should be enough to keep up with the card.😉
George Harris2 said:Just ignore that... I think Benjamin King2 is right, this OC version of the 6870 is pretty well overclocked and actually beats out the VTX model. 🙂
Maybe take a closer look at those clock speeds 😬
It definitely has a much better heatsink and it's slightly cheaper too 😉
EDIT: Why do you think they'd offer a 500W unit for $60 or $150? 😁
Those Microsoft power supplies are probably meant for basic office PCs or maybe an AMD Llano build. Honestly, even for low-end stuff, LC Power and Chicony are probably a bit better. A brand like Silverstone offers way more efficiency and more connectors, and they can likely deliver more than the rated 500W—whereas that Microsoft one might only hit 350W. If it actually hits its limit, I guess that Microsoft unit won't just shut down; there's a good chance it'll just fry and take another component with it since it lacks protections (like what Silverstone has).
David Murphy11 said:Oh, I just realized I was looking at the wrong model version! 😁 Apparently, a lot of people swear by version 2.3. I've heard good things about XFX too, though they're a bit pricier at Portio than they are during the sale over at Links. So, I guess I still have some time to weigh my options. I watched a YouTube review for that EVGA SuperNOVA 500 W, and the guy mentioned it feels really light, which honestly doesn't inspire much confidence. At least he was upfront about it! Unless this Enhanced version is somehow updated... Maybe I should just hold off until the GeForce 3 v2.3 is back in stock; it has active PFC too.
What does weight even matter? It's not like you're going to go out and fight someone with it. 🤣
All that matters is the performance (the quality)...
