They'll throw in free shipping if you just ask.
Grand Theft Auto V might actually run on High settings with a $1000 build, though I guess the FPS would probably be right on the edge of being playable.

The price might drop by about $67 if you start out with 4GB of RAM.

Are you looking for a monitor, some peripherals, or just the tower itself?

It's a newer version, though it’s basically the same thing, I guess. 😉
Everything seems to be compatible...

Then I guess nothing lower than a Radeon R9 290 works. Like my buddy said, anything less would just be a sidegrade rather than an actual upgrade.

You could probably go with something like that. If you're looking at anything from brand new down to $500, you might only find an overclocked HD 7870 (R9 270x) 😬 Did yours finally give up the ghost?

For $567, you could grab a new R9 380 (though it’s slightly weaker than the R9 280 x or an HD 7970)

Gigabyte... though I guess the R9 280 x isn't really worth it right now. It’s just too close to the R9 290:

Hm... I'd probably pass on the Dell Inspiron Series 😁

It might be worth it if you can stretch for those extra $33 because I guess it makes a noticeable difference for the GPU.

Also, I pay for everything in my PC setup entirely on my own, even though I'm a full-time student. Everything listed in my signature was earned this way. 😁

Maybe grab that other one too, and just put it up front.

It pulls about 55W, so pretty much any power supply should handle it... I guess as long as you actually have an AGP slot available, it'll work 😁
What power supply are you running? (Need the exact model)

$1388 AMD

The i5 feels a bit snappier for gaming. For productivity, they're pretty much on par, but I guess the i5 is just more consistent.

Then again, having those 8 cores might be better down the road for certain tasks.

Honestly, it's a tough call. The i5 is probably the safer bet right out of the box, but if you've got a solid PSU and don't mind a little moderate overclocking, maybe the FX is the better way to go (especially this -E version).

Ethan Vaughn27 said:The R9 390 will probably pull more FPS at higher resolutions (UHD) since it has 8GB of VRAM, whereas the GTX 970 might actually perform better at 1080p. Plus, Nvidia tends to be pretty good about optimizing their drivers, so grabbing the GTX 970 seems like the smarter move if they aren't planning on playing in UHD anyway—and they won't need to swap out their power supply either.

But where does it actually say that on those sites you linked? Nowhere. That’s why I responded the way I did; other people are going to look at those links and jump to the wrong conclusions.

What you're saying is mostly right, I guess.

$5500 at 24 installments ~ $227 per month
$3333 at 12 installments ~ $278 per month

It’s not a huge gap... I guess if you take that first one I got from Best Buy and just swap in an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970, it's basically the same thing.

It’s a significantly weaker chip—it just doesn't have nearly enough CUDA cores, TMUs, or ROPs to keep up. Plus, you're stuck with a 64-bit bus, which is going to be a real headache if you try playing anything at 1680x1050 or higher. I guess the faster memory helps a bit, but it probably won't be enough to make up for those fundamental weaknesses.

Personally, I think $23 the R7 250 is probably the better call here... plus, you'd still have an extra year of warranty left.
