Is Giancarlo actually going to take the win? in Formula 1 ·

Michelin vs Bridgestone
I’m just going to say it one more time... back at Indianapolis, those Michelin intermediate tires were absolute beasts on that super wet track during the first half of the race—really impressive stuff—but once the surface started drying out? Man, they just fell off a cliff, losing anywhere from two to four seconds a lap compared to the Bridgestones. It was painful to watch, honestly. You could see David and Kimi absolutely fighting just to keep their cars on the asphalt through every single corner during those final five laps. And since the track was still too soaked for slicks, both of them—plus everyone else on Michelins—would've ended up stuck on another set of Michelinki intermediates after that last stop while the track kept getting drier... So, if you think about it, the red flag really screwed over Fisichella, Frentzen, and Villeneuve—who, by the way, was flying, shaving seven seconds off Raikkonen's pace in just the last three laps—since they were all on Bridgestone, and Villeneuve was the only one with enough fuel to make it to the finish line.
Good luck, old friend... in Formula 1 ·
I’m jumping in here to echo everything everyone else has said—honestly, I just want to see Ferrari pull off at least one win this season... maybe by the end of the year? Fingers crossed! 🙂
Drivers or the cars? in Formula 1 ·
Shooby said:back in the fifties, Fangio managed to snag five championships—and if I remember correctly, he did it with three different cars from three different teams. Yet, people hardly ever talk about him as a legendary driver; they just shrug and say, "Well, back then, the cars only went 80 mph." Sure, that's true. But *all* those cars went 80 mph! It’s the same logic as today—everyone is basically equal because all the modern cars hit around 380 mph (or whatever, the exact number isn't the point here).

For anyone who isn't up on the history, Fangio’s winning machine—that 1952 Alfa Romeo 159—could hit speeds over 193 miles/h. And mind you, that was on street circuits or makeshift tracks with basically zero safety, not on these sanitized, "PlayStation" style tracks we have today. I mean, seriously—drivers were wearing work overalls and leather caps, wrestling 17-inch wheels and steering wheels the size of a tractor's... I could go on. Back then, and even decades later (right up until the end of the turbo era when engines topped 1,000 hp), the cars were definitely more "equal," which meant the driver was absolutely everything. It wasn't like today, where someone with almost zero open-wheel experience (like Robotonen) can jump into a car that's mostly controlled by electronics and just start winning... Maybe even the greatest driver of all time—Tazio Nuvolari in the 40s driving an Alfa Romeo 8 C—regularly took down opponents in Mercedes-Benz or Auto Union cars (it's kind of like if Michael jumped into a Minardi and just absolutely demolished the field), but that's a whole other story... In short, drivers are less important now than they've ever been. That's why I still have so much respect for the guys from IndyCar or CART—they’re still out there on slick tires, without traction control or launch control, using manual gearboxes, flying at 242 miles/h while staring down demons living inside concrete walls...

mr X said:Honestly, Mika actually got his very first win handed to him on a silver platter by Coulthard—well, technically it was Villeneuve first—so when people claim there wasn't any helping involved...

Mind you, during that same race, even Villeneuve got a little "gift" from Mihajl, so I guess he just decided to pay it forward...😁
Progress takes time... in Formula 1 ·
The damn FIA announced today that traction control, launch control, and those automatic gearboxes aren't going anywhere—at least not until the end of the season. In other words, the kids (Robotonen, Alonso, Button...) can go back to sleeping soundly tonight without a care in the world. It’s such a bummer, honestly—I was really banking on seeing some actual, raw racing once we hit Silverstone, so...😠 :2up:
Post-race thoughts... (Season 2) in Formula 1 ·
I honestly can't bring myself to vote... I mean, how can anyone actually root for McLaren when there’s a team out there that actually values peace and friendship? They're the ultimate role model—BAR-Honda 😁 😈
Who to cheer for? in Formula 1 ·
Finally some actual good news for us BAR fans... just the two of us...😁
Faster than the M$ crowd, DC, and both Williams cars...🙂 🙂 🙂

Of course, we have to start with the full John Williams catalog first and foremost. Beyond the Star Wars stuff we already talked about, you've got Born on the Fourth of July, Jaws 1 and 2, Indiana Jones, E.T., A.I. Artificial Intelligence—honestly, there are so many I won't even try to list them all... But if I had to pick my absolute favorites? Probably Jon Barry and the score for Dances with Wolves. I also have to give a nod to the legendary Miklos Rozsa and his work on films like Ben-Hur, Quo Vadis, and Spellbound... Fun little fact about Miklos, too—he was actually the mentor to the great Jerry Goldsmith (who did Star Trek and Total Recall). On top of everything else mentioned, there’s also Big Blue, Blade Runner, Conan, and hundreds of others...
