hey linora, just install Vista like you would with Windows XP. unplug your modem or router from the box so it can't hit the internet. if you're using a cracked version, just skip the serial, but if you got the legit one, obviously use the key. if it's a pirate copy, you can just grab some Vista activator online to bypass the trial and get it activated.
once it's up, go to My Computer, hit properties, and check your system rating. if it scores higher than a 3, your rig can handle Vista. if it hits a 2 or lower, honestly? just wipe Vista and stick with Windows XP. no point struggling with Vista on a potato machine.
So I'm running a cracked version of Windows Vista Ultimate with an activator. It runs okay, I guess, but man, it absolutely eats my CPU. First off, all those background gadgets grab about 15% of my processor right away, so you definitely gotta kill those. Then there's Aero—if you aren't rocking at least 128MB of VRAM, just turn it off. Windows is supposed to disable Aero automatically if the graphics card can't handle it, but if it doesn't, just do it yourself because it hogs memory like crazy. Also, some pirated games won't even launch; they just crash during the install. Everything looks cool and functions fine, but honestly? I still think Windows XP was better. Not just for the gaming, but the drivers were way easier to find back then compared to Vista.

we aren't ready for Windows Vista yet lol. i've had it on my second PC for ages now and gotta say, it’s a total beast. mad props to the devs for putting in 6 years of work, but honestly? Windows XP still hits different. give Windows Vista at least another year or so. drivers are a mess right now and if you're running a cracked game, it probably won't even work. if you're rocking an older rig, just stick with XP
