Bruce Willis retires from acting in Movies ·
I mean, I feel even worse for Val Kilmer and everything he's had to deal with lately... just man, what a bummer.

Top-ups work fine—you can just move money over to a Cookie or Chime if you grab one of their cards. They treat it like any other online purchase, so there aren't any fees right now. I've been using a Chime virtual card through Apple Pay to send cash to people without getting hit by those annoying PayPal fees. Then, at the end of the day, I just move it all back to PayPal the same way.

What I'm actually wondering about is whether PayPal might try to block these top-ups, since I’m basically just exploiting their free tier. I have this nagging feeling that if I keep shuffling money around like this, someone's gonna get annoyed and freeze my account. Plus, I've got no clue how the IRS would view these transfers being flagged as online payments. Like, if I theoretically moved a thousand bucks between PayPal and Chime a hundred times, would the IRS think I actually spent 100 $0.00.

The only reason I even bother with PayPal is because I'm mostly just depositing cash into it right now—I don't even have online banking with any of the big banks like Chase.

What’s the fee on Venmo looking like lately—and what's actually gonna be the cheapest way to settle bills now?

What if I end up generating two or more cash payment codes? Like, can I just use the last one they gave me, or do the older ones still work? And do these codes actually expire after a bit or whatever?
Quarantine Life in Coronavirus ·
So, how do you actually prove to your boss you’ve got COVID and need to quarantine if your doctor is being too slow to send over an official note? I grabbed a screenshot of my patient portal showing my clinic visit and the positive test result—but honestly, who knows if that'll even fly.

I just started messing around with PayPal myself—basically just testing out these digital wallets to see what sticks—but I don't really get why you went through the hassle of paying indirectly via Keksica. From what I can tell, you can't even pull a PDF receipt from PayPal because it didn't actually process the payment... it just sees it as some random Maestro card transaction to PayU. Why wouldn't you just scan the 2D code directly in the app? There aren't even any fees right now, plus you’d actually get a proper PDF confirmation for the transfer.

Ethan Alvarez5 said:If someone sends me, say, $100 via PayPal from Germany, how does that show up in my account balance?
I’m assuming it hits my balance in USD based on the current exchange rate?

Never actually tried it—not that I really need to—but I'm guessing if you send someone Euros, they just get Euros... and then there’s that built-in currency converter in the app where you can swap them for dollars. Like today, maybe you get $2.50 for €1, or maybe €1 costs $2.50. You just tap your balance on the home screen and the converter pops up in a little window.

silentskipper3 said:If I transfer something like $4,000 directly into his PayPal wallet, am I going to get hit with a transaction fee? And if I do, does the full amount just sit there, ready for him to pull the whole thing onto his PayPal Mastercard?

Yeah, but you can only drop $667 at a time. I mean, you could probably do it in two chunks of two thousand—someone else mentioned doing that here earlier and it worked fine for them.

There’s no fee for the deposit, but they’ll hit you with one when you try to pull cash from an ATM. To dodge that, you could move the money from PayPal over to Keksica (if you have one) and use an Erste Bank ATM to grab it fee-free. Or maybe move it to Chime and go from there—check the Chime thread to see how people handle that.

Lisa Perez50 said:I’ve never quite figured out how card payments work at the Post Office. I always use my card when I'm shipping packages. I've seen other people paying their bills with cards there, too. So, I guess some services just work normally with a card, while others act like a cash withdrawal. Someone actually needs to go try it and report back.

Nah, no. This was already explained earlier in this thread. You don't even need a card to pay your bills. You just download the app, set up an account, load some cash (either via cash at ExxonMobil, 7-Eleven, or just using a card), snap a photo of your bills, and you're done. There aren't any fees for it right now, which is why everyone is jumping on it. If they start charging fees, we'll see if it's still worth the hassle.

EDIT: The card is basically just for shopping in stores or online. Plus, you can use it to move money over to keks pay or Chime. Though, I'm not sure if anyone's gonna call me out if I move money from PayPal and Chime way too often.

Linda Wood96 said:Does that generated barcode for cash deposits only work while it's actually up on the screen, or can I just grab a screenshot and pay later after I've closed the app? I guess I already asked something similar, but I'm wondering if anyone's actually tried this—like, for real. I'm asking because the code seems to change every single time I generate it.

Anyone actually tried that? Anyway—top ups from Cash App to Chime or keks Paya work fine. Tried it myself, works like a charm, though you obviously need a card.

😵 Ugh, man... I honestly thought we were already in 2023.

So, I finally grabbed a card, and I'm already seeing a major flaw. Since these things are physical, they have a fixed expiration date printed right on them—mine says it expires in October 2025. Which means—get this—it doesn't even have three years left. If someone picks this up in the middle of summer, they’re looking at barely two and a half years of use. Maybe they plan on pulling unsold stock off the shelves every six months to swap in fresh batches, but honestly, that sounds like a total money pit. It'd probably be way more efficient if they just switched over to virtual cards.

Yeah, on a Samsung you can just set everything to dark mode—or have it kick in automatically once the sun goes down. I guess.
Large deposits to my account in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
So, with the transition to the dollar happening over the next year, everyone's gonna have to swap out those piles of cash they've been stashing under their mattresses for actual dollars. The Federal Reserve even pointed out that Americans hold onto way too much physical cash—basically suggesting we should all just dump it into bank accounts so the conversion happens automatically. Which makes this whole thing a massive headache right now. Like, say someone’s sitting on $200k or $300k in cold hard cash... how are they supposed to swap that for dollars without the IRS breathing down their neck? Especially if they aren't working right now or don't have a long enough job history to easily explain where that mountain of money came from.

It feels like the laws have gotten even stricter since the last time this topic popped up, so I figured I'd ask.

Can someone actually wire money onto an AirCash card—like, the way you’d do it with a standard checking account? Say, if someone just sets up a transfer using the card's account number?

Is it even legal for someone to just screenshot their cash payment code and shoot it over to me so I can pay it at a 7-Eleven? And—if we’re really leaning into the chaos here—what if I use my debit card to do it too? 😁

The Ninth Gate (1999) in Movies ·
Kenneth Allen said:I didn't even finish my thought in that last post.

If Satan—assuming we're talking about the established archetype here—doesn't actually know who's inhabiting a human body because our consciousness is so limited... then maybe Chase could also be Lucifer himself, just heading back home in the end.😉

....

Isn't the feminine side inherently demonic? Or is she just some secondary, fallen angel type thing?

EDIT: So, I was watching another Polanski flick on PBS yesterday—Venus in Furs—and his wife is in that one too. It's this erotic drama where the only two characters are theater people, plus some actress who crashes an audition. Who knows, maybe there's a connection... maybe that mysterious girl in The Ninth Gate is actually the Roman goddess Venus.
