Disgusting hygiene at the dentist's office in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Is that floor going into your mouth? 😂 Did you at least bother to disinfect it first? 😁

If you guys think it was aimed at me, I wasn't actually asking for the reasoning behind everything; I was just trying to figure out which local grocery store carries it.

EDIT: This question was actually meant for bluemason3.

🙂

mistyscout2 said:I mean, what even is "true love," and which aisle in the grocery store can I find it in? Honestly, hearing someone talk about "true love" sounds a bit like reading a pamphlet for LGBTQ+ organizations 🤣.

If you don't already have a grasp on what love actually is, I'm not sure anyone could really sit you down and explain it to you.

Nobody is going to respect you if you don't start respecting yourself first, right? In fact, if you’re constantly playing the hero, most people will just assume you have an ulterior motive—which, let's be honest, might actually be true. For some, being helpful isn't about genuine kindness; it's just a calculated way to make everyone else dependent on them.

Jason Cooper said:Not a chance. They were just a regular working-class family. My mom always insisted his mother disliked her because of that, and she used to claim my dad had a massive weakness for women with fancy degrees. It turns out she might have been onto something, considering the woman who gave birth to my brother is actually a doctor.

As for why he cheated? Honestly, I can only speculate... After having kids, my mom just let herself go completely; she went from being this stunning, fit blonde to a graying woman struggling with her weight. She basically shut herself inside the house, dedicating every waking second to the kids instead of looking for a career. Her entire world revolved around making sure my brother and I were well-fed—she’d always make sure we got the best portions first, then give whatever was left to my dad, never thinking twice about herself. I never once saw them being affectionate, like kissing or holding hands. When they were in a good mood, they just had their own little private world and would laugh together. But the woman who had my other brother? She was everything my mother stopped being at that stage of her life: young, attractive, and a successful professional.

If I were you, I wouldn't hand over a single cent until your father tells you the truth about why he's refusing his pension. You've got him in a corner, so he'll eventually have to cave.

I don't quite grasp what kind of illusion he's trying to maintain when everyone pretty much knows about his infidelity. Is it possible there are more kids out there, or something even messier? I never really understood what he did for a living before retirement. If he was involved in politics, maybe he's just trying to dodge some lingering issues. Are you even certain he's entitled to that pension? Or what if he's already collecting it through someone else's name?

Jason Cooper said:Wealthy? Hardly. She was just exceptionally beautiful, quick-witted, and had a solid education. My father always used to say she was as sweet as pie. 🙂

So why did he cheat on her then? Are you really certain your father didn't stand to gain anything from marrying your mother? Is there some hidden political dynasty or old-money family connection we aren't aware of?

I have a feeling your mother knows a lot more than you realize, so maybe it’s time for a real conversation with her.

If your old man is already living off your hard work, you really ought to find the backbone to tell him the truth. Otherwise, you’re just wandering around in the dark with no clue why you’re even footing his bills. Who knows what else he’s hiding—maybe there are more illegitimate kids or some even darker skeletons in his closet? For all you know, he might have actually gotten more out of life than you ever did. Was your mother loaded, or was she just one of those women everyone was desperate to marry?

It looks like you and your half-brother are both paying the price for your old man's lack of faith. He really screwed things up, didn't he? Once he finally collects his Social Security, he probably should pay you back, though we all know he likely won't. As for whether you should stay in touch with your half-brother, I don't think you owe him anything—at least not through any fault of your own—so that’s entirely up to you. The same goes for elderly parents; children aren't obligated to support them unless they feel a purely personal desire to do so.

Just Google 'long range Bluetooth mouse.' You could probably walk into the next room at a Target and test the range right there. Honestly, I’m just baffled that his signal is actually penetrating through walls like that; personally, my Bluetooth tends to cut out the second I step behind a door.

Honestly though, I’m still kind of stuck on what my next move should be.

There's just no way I can manually copy everything over; we're talking way too many gigabytes for that.

All my passwords, work docs, family photos... it's all there, and I really need to clear the drive out first.

The thing is, it’s running incredibly hot, and the fan is basically screaming at me constantly.

Nobody really touched on whether cleaning out the dust would actually fix the overheating issue (even if it wasn't the main point).

And how long does that whole process usually take? Maybe I could hang out while it happens.

I’ve also been sitting here wondering what happens if I just shut it down and drop it off at the repair shop without prepping anything... maybe I'm being a bit paranoid, but I really don't want some stranger poking around my bookmarks, let alone my private files.

The easiest thing would be to just pull the drive. You could try asking the repair shop to pop it out right in front of you so you can keep it, then have them reinstall it when you pick up the laptop after the cleaning is done. That way, you might not void the warranty if it's an authorized service center, and you wouldn't have to deal with opening it up yourself.

If you decide to go the software route and you're sitting on a mountain of data, it might be best to clone the entire partition or drive onto another device before any formatting happens. That way, nothing gets lost. But it would probably be smart to call in a geek to handle that part for you.

Kenneth Brown5 said:Honestly, I’m kind of hoping I can just leave everything exactly how it is right now, without having to deal with the headache of deleting files or copying stuff over to a new drive.

Is there any way to just lock down my partitions or maybe set up some kind of login password for them?

I’ve been putting off this whole cleanup for ages because of that, but things are getting pretty sketchy—my laptop is running so hot it feels like it’s about to melt through my desk.

Also, does the repair shop even need to actually boot up my computer when they’re doing the work?

The only thing I'm certain of is that you're either looking at wiping everything combined with encryption or backing it all up to an external drive, because pretty much anything else can be bypassed with ease. There is software out there for encryption and cloning entire partitions or drives, though I highly doubt you'd find using it particularly intuitive.

I've been putting off this cleanup for ages because of that exact issue, and things have reached a breaking point where my laptop is constantly overheating.

Does a repair shop even need to turn the computer on while they're working on it?

That really depends on what they're actually doing to it.

You could always encrypt the data or just dump everything onto an external drive and then wipe it clean permanently. You can always pull it back later. Or maybe you could even pull the hard drive right out of the laptop, assuming that wouldn't void your warranty or anything.
