Mars Volta😁 live yet, and honestly, seeing those lunatics perform with their wall of sound would be something else...
If they brought out Cave, Mars Volta, maybe even AF... then we'd be talking. I'd actually buy a ticket at that point.☕

The whole Mars Volta idea is killer—we really need to lean on the promoters to stop sleeping on them. Heh.

The issue with Volt is that their recent shows have been massive—like two and a half hour sets—which just doesn't work when you're dealing with the tight scheduling of a major US music festival.

There was actually an idea for a club show back in 2008—but the promoter just couldn't pull the trigger. It turned out there was this massive gig happening in Washington, D.C. on the exact same day, and through some weird stroke of luck, that big show ended up getting canceled anyway.
I've got a bunch of CDs up for grabs here. Honestly, most of them have barely been touched—some were played once, others haven't even left the case yet. If you're looking to fill some gaps in your collection, take a look:

Honestly, after the New York City FC game, this thread is basically the best entertainment left in town.😁

Not quite. MJK hasn't even started working on the vocals yet.
I honestly don't know where to start with this one—it’s just one of those things that stays stuck in your head like a bad song you can't turn off. It’s funny how we all collectively decide to act like certain things are groundbreaking when, in reality, they're just more of the same noise wrapped in shiny packaging. It’s like expecting a different flavor from a fast-food chain after you've eaten there every day for a decade—you know exactly what's coming, yet you still find yourself sitting there, staring at the bag, wondering why you bothered. There’s a certain level of predictability in everything lately that feels almost exhausting, if you think about it too much. You start seeing the patterns everywhere, the same recycled ideas, the same tired tropes, and you just end up feeling sort of... detached. It's less about being angry and more about that quiet, heavy realization that the novelty has worn thin. We’re all just circling the same drain, pretending it’s a new ride every single time. kaže:
So, I’m hearing whispers that we might actually see Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, Portishead, and Fatboy Slim on the lineup—supposedly "confirmed" at this point. Honestly, if they pull it off, it sounds like a hell of a weekend, though I've been burned by these "leaks" enough times to know better than to get my hopes up just yet.🙂

Well, that went south fast—everything just completely fell apart. 😁
Kenneth Williams60 said:Exactly... or maybe if those mindless radio stations actually offered something else during the holidays besides Wham! or those other soul-crushingly boring little jingles.
I don't even want to get into the state of radio programming throughout the rest of the year.

Mda... I can already see Ros or Fever Ray playing after a Sunday lunch out in the countryside... 😁

And honestly? We’re living in a total godforsaken wasteland. 🙂

🙂

Given how pathetic the artist fees are in this industry, I find it bizarre they're even considering this gig.

I honestly have no clue where you guys are seeing ten catfish hanging around there. 😕
Drew Barrett4 said:We’re looking at maybe ten grand on day one, and then another twenty large for each of the following two days.

😂😂😂😂 ...honestly, grab an abacus if you want to keep track!
Mark Cox15 said:Over the course of three days of shows and five days of camping, you had roughly 50,000 people from all over the US and abroad soaking it all in.

Yeah—cut a zero off that number.
Jose White23 said:And here's one more weird thing. Massive is throwing corporate logos all over the backdrop behind them, while right next to us, we've got two T-Mobile logos just grinning away.

...you can find stuff like that everywhere these days. Honestly, nothing beats watching Rage Against the Machine rake in millions while being completely surrounded by the visual branding of giant mega-corporations.
Jose White23 said:Mary, please—just fix the damn sound on the second stage. What is your deal? It’s been years of this, and honestly, it’s the same old garbage every single time. Dragos, quit dragging Mary into this mess.

The audio from the second stage is actually running through the main system now... some "innovation" they rolled out last year.
The Broken social scene has some really solid gay indie acts, though they definitely have a tendency to overplay their sets. Especially that little bass geek 😁. Caribou was absolutely incredible, though. NYPC had a great disco vibe—solid sound, definitely got people moving. Skindred? Total garbage. As for The Flaming Lips, they’re way too pretentious; I can't stand when that hippie stench starts wafting off crowds like that. Their visuals and production were cool, though... some nice little details there. I skipped the drunk Irish guys... decided to treat myself to Massivan instead. They absolutely demolished the crowd—the sound was so heavy it practically rearranged my internal organs (which is more than I can say for any of the other gigs at this festival). And yeah, just further proof that Vince Foster is basically a god walking among us. I'm already looking forward to seeing them in Italy and Austria, hopefully in even better form.
Rise Against was actually pretty solid. But honestly, after about five songs, it felt like they were just running through the motions again. LCD was a massive letdown, though—I mean, where was the production design? Where were the lights, or even a decent, punchy sound system? It’s usually a killer British-inspired soundtrack, but last night they just sounded thin and incredibly dull. Audio Bullys were way too loud, I guess, but they managed to hold their own for a few tracks. As for Pendulum, they felt like a pale imitation of when I first saw them; without the strobe lights and that massive wall of sound, you lose that whole sensory overload vibe. !!! From what I could see, they were oscillating a bit too much. Billy sounded like he was playing at a wedding. The lineup was fun enough, though: Travis Barker, Nikki Sixx, Derek Whilbey, Manowar on bass, and even that guy from The Sopranos on keys.
vividmoose18 said:Honestly, Alice in Chains sounded like they were back in their absolute prime—huge respect to them for that. Duval is such a likable guy, and Inez is basically a god with a hat on. As for the setlist? It was perfection. I’m still buzzing from hearing "Damn That River," "Rain When I Die," and "Again!" plus "Nutshell" and all those other essentials... man, what a rush. My only real gripe is that they were just one part of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival lineup. Being stuck in a festival setting definitely messed with the vibe a bit—it skewed the crowd demographic and forced the set to be way shorter than it should've been. Still, they'll be back. 🙂

I caught them three times in a single week—nearly hitting double digits if you count the rehearsals—and honestly, it was quite the ride. When they played at the Madison Square Garden show, they were definitely at their most relaxed, putting together a killer set. It’s funny, because I’ve never actually seen them go full throttle with stuff like "Nutshell" or "Down in a Hole" at any of the big festivals. That said, the sound quality there was pretty pathetic—just total garbage. The vocal layering was spot on, though, and Dave is just a genuine, salt-of-the-earth guy, even when he's rocking that punk-rock energy. They were at their absolute most aggressive during the two days in Chicago right before that, but by the time they hit Lollapalooza, it felt like they were just going through the motions because the crowd was so damn mindless. Still, ironically, the sound at Lollapalooza was easily the best of the bunch.

fadedhound7 said:Honestly, Alice in Chains was the biggest letdown for me yesterday—and they were the only reason I even bothered showing up. Don't get me wrong, they played well, they really did; the musicianship was solid, but there just wasn't any soul in the room. There was zero atmosphere. The crowd was basically a bunch of zombies, just offering some polite, perfunctory applause after each song before drifting back into silence. It felt like most people out there hadn't even heard of Alice in Chains until they saw them on the festival lineup.

Trust me, compared to the crowds you'd see in places like Austria or the Czech Republic, yesterday was a total washout.

Matthew Newman2 said:Someone in charge of organizing events at Central Park really dropped the ball this year—it was an absolute disaster. For some reason that nobody can quite wrap their head around, the speakers and the entire stage setup aren't aimed toward the open areas where they should be. Instead, they’re pointed directly southeast, straight toward the residential neighborhood near Lanište. It means people sitting in their own living rooms are stuck listening to nothing but distorted, unintelligible noise and bone-rattling bass every single time there’s an outdoor concert or festival going on. Just a total lack of common sense.
Honestly, someone really needs to step up and do something about this—I’m at my wit's end. I can't get a decent night's sleep, let alone focus on studying, with this constant noise blaring in the background. It’s reached a point where it's actually unbearable, especially since it wasn't nearly this bad in previous years.
That's all I've got for you.
Hey there.

The main stage is set up exactly the same way they had it back in 2008 and 2009—it’s like they just hit rewind on the blueprints and called it a day.

Well, there goes my idea.
quietstag15 said:^ haha, interesting name. "She's Got my Love i Got Her drugs" 😉

It’s totally plausible they could book Green Day—they’ll be touring America around that time anyway—but what I’m really missing is someone like NOFX / Bad Religion / Lagwagon. Every single one of them is hitting the US circuit this summer.

...here we go again...

frozenbison2 said:.....and I get the feeling people will too.
TJ—well, I just hope most people decide to skip this whole thing. Honestly, if you're going to charge that kind of money, you should be bringing in some actual heavy hitters, IMO. If this lineup wasn't so depressing, it might actually be laughable!

I can't imagine an organizer passing up the chance to book a group widely considered one of the best live acts on the planet right now—a band that, by the way, happens to be touring nearby at this very moment:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_wEbe9S4gU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bf0t...eature=related

.....or frankly, any other major artist who’s actually relevant right now!?

We've been down this road before. Given that they struggled to move even 2,000 tickets last time, and now the prices have basically tripled—the math is pretty simple.
It would have been "more profitable" to just book Metallica; they'd have filled Central Park to the brim.
