Back 2 seasons ago, Nick Cave was the first act announced. Last year, it was Kraftwerk and Franz Ferdinand leading the charge.

So, normally speaking, the big names drop very early on. From what I can tell, there hasn't really been this kind of "calculating" with the major bands in the past. As soon as they’re confirmed and management clears the press release, Coachella just announces them.

Man, this year is just different—it feels like things are stalling, so Central Park might end up being a bit of a letdown. At least when it comes to the lineup.

I honestly don't think that chubby guy from the Adidas commercial, the one constantly spinning that scratched-up CD, belongs in the same conversation as one of the greatest British rock bands ever.

But hey, in this country, everything is always upside down anyway.

They're asking for a bit more cash than most promoters can actually swing.

And suddenly you all decide to show up. A few weeks ago, tickets were easily $20 cheaper.
Alex Ramirez12 said:Look, just shoot them an email and vent if you feel like it. Honestly, I think making some noise might actually get through to them.

😂

Not if they pair them up with the Democratic National Committee😉

A realist. I’ve been in the trenches doing this work, so believe me when I say I know how it actually goes.
quietwalker17 said:People, get real—they have planes!

Look, honey, bands like that don't just hop on commercial flights. If they’re playing shows day in and day out, we're talking private jets or nothing. Besides, AIC isn't KISS, Metallica, or Iron Maiden.
I’m honestly skeptical about whether I can make those dates work—on their last run, they were asking for a ton of downtime between shows... plus, getting to Sofia is going to be a nightmare because the traffic over there is absolutely brutal.

I mean, just look at what happened before: one pro driver coming in from Romania ended up stuck on the road for over 30 hours, even though the tour manager had promised it would only take maybe 14 or 16.

and maybe Green Day could pull it off too :P

Green Day is out of the question—they're playing in Seattle the day before Lollapalooza, and then they've got a festival in Boston the very next day.
redgull44 said:As long as they're The Strokes... honestly, I could probably stomach the Chemical Brothers too

You think you can handle an Adidas commercial? 😉
Andrew Ramos38 said:the mogul from Lostprophets? 😁

They were already washed up back in 2008.
slypanther5 said:at least Morbid Angel are showing up

I'll probably just head over to Walmart and grab whatever the most expensive shirt they've got is for these guys😉

God of Emptiness 😍
Are they digging into our pockets, or did they just lose the damn list? 😁
slypanther5 said:I’d go for Body Count

At the very least, their backstage party would have been a hell of a lot better than whatever mess Prodigy left behind two years ago.😉
The real question is whether SG is even going to show up on tour at all.
slypanther5 said:apparently negotiations with G4 Productions have hit a wall...

Probably because they were holding out for some top-shelf bourbon😁
Jesse Sanchez60 said:First thing that pops into my head is Sonic Youth—back in the summer of 2003, they flew in from New York for two shows over in Europe (one in Belgrade and some tiny village in Finland)... but yeah, there’s plenty more where that came from.

I'm honestly just dying to know which local gear tech was tasked with sourcing their entire backline for those gigs.😁
You might get some small-time knockoff band showing up here and calling themselves the real deal, but honestly, that’s rare. I actually knew a group once—the kind of act that usually commands a solid $10k to $15k per gig—that had the audacity to ask for a cool $100k just for a single one-off show at a bar.

When you start factoring in the hotel stays, hospitality riders, travel, and the cost of renting backline gear, the price tag for touring acts jumps up pretty significantly.
Since we're talking about Americans here, there’s just no way anyone’s making enough money to justify flying all the way across the Atlantic for a single gig in Europe.
