That’s exactly why I called her this year's record-breaker—I haven't really bothered keeping track for years now, so who knows? 😬

But honestly, that 2005 race in the States? It’s hard to imagine anything ever touching that level again. It was just such a wild ride that people haven't stopped talking about it since. 😁

Man, this thread is absolutely crushing it. We’ve officially set a new record for the most posts in a single race discussion all year long. No other race thread has even come close to breaking the 700-post mark. 👋
It’s actually kind of wild when you think about it, especially since we didn't even kick this thing off until Friday during free practice. Usually, people start hyping up these threads like ten days before the green flag even drops! 👏

Maybe it’s because this is already the fourth thread about Ford on just the front page of the forum🤣
Two of them have already been flagged with that little icon on the left, and I bet this one is next... 😛

Were you even watching last season?😕
How on earth could he have won the title last year driving a car that was barely scraping points together?🤷
He just caught the scent of money and couldn't resist.
And all that talk about Renault pulling out of Formula 1 was just pure gossip... 🙄

It was way more than just rumors. There was enough noise to make anyone hesitate to risk everything. Do you seriously think he’d ditch the team he won championships with just to jump into a squad that’s been getting wrecked on track lately? 🤣
As for the cash... you'll see how much it actually matters when he turns down Honda's offer just because there's a chance Renault might have a better car next year. For this guy, the car comes first, then the paycheck. 👍

Personally, what bugs me is that he really needs to be a decent human being before he's a driver—and I'm not even talking about that move during the race, just what was mentioned in the previous post.

Look, you can go ahead and review material all you want, but calling Alonso a sensitive crybaby doesn't actually have anything to do with what we're discussing here.🙄

what are you even talking about on the exit?
☕

😕🤷

I'm not totally following the question, but... 12th is also 🙄

dustyhound said:Man, come on. There were way more seasons where everyone was just shoving through that first turn without anyone even touching a bumper, and there were definitely more incidents than what we saw here. Don't give me that nonsense...

I mean, sure, maybe it was smarter for him to just play it safe and squeeze through like Kubica or Kovalainen and risk some bodywork damage?! 😵
You can tell me he ended up with 11 cars ahead of him after the chicane for all I care, but I seriously doubt it. (That footage from Jubilee seems to have mysteriously vanished... hmm...)

Here’s a photo for when you’re "seriously doubting" 🤣
I even marked who's who just to make it crystal clear for you 🙂

If you need any more proof, I'm happy to provide it... ☕
It bugs me because he should be a decent guy first and a driver second (not talking about his move during the race, but what was mentioned in the previous post), which is why I don't like him. That's just my personal take.
Let him sit in that mediocre Renault for a while; it'll bring him back down to earth. Maybe that loud-mouthed "temperament" of his will chill out a bit. ☕

Look, I get it, but your personal feelings toward Alonso shouldn't really color your judgment on whether his move on the track was fair or not 🙄
I don't usually dive this deep into these kinds of debates, but hey, let's have some fun while we're at it 😵

I'm not either—this is actually my first big debate on here 😬
Round 15: Singapore Grand Prix in Formula 1 ·
dustyhound said:just look at Alonso's line going into the chicane... it would have been sweet if he just stayed on track, but he still would've made it. The guys behind him aren't blind or stupid. But whatever, let's just cut ahead then, who cares... 🙄
and seriously, Nick Heidfeld ran right over him, but you can tell he didn't gain anything from it

man, you're hilarious... 😂
please tell me where else he could have gone when those cars on his right were practically bumper-to-bumper? they already had him boxed in the second he tried to dive in. His only option was to stop, but then Pike would've absolutely flattened him 🙄
as for gaining an advantage from that move... there were 11 drivers ahead of him before the cut (and there's a ton more missing from this photo) and 11 drivers still ahead after he did it. 🙂
anything else? 🤷

YES, Alonso really rubs me the wrong way... I don't see him as much of a threat these days, but I've always been a Kimmy fan. I've followed him since his Sauber days—and even Jenson back when Honda actually meant something..
I mean, this guy is annoying as hell. From that whole thing where he's waving his arms at other drivers, all the whining in front of the cameras, to signing that McLaren deal right behind Flavio Briatore's back. It's just shameful.
I don't get what happened during his Renault years, being a two-time world champ and all...
And look at that, he went right back to Flavio with his tail between his legs.

Again... YES, Alonso is a total thorn in my side.

I caught onto that bias of yours immediately from those subjective comments of yours ☕

It was the exact same deal when they stripped Hamilton of that win. ☕

stormybadger8 said:What kind of loophole? Everything was totally by the book. Lewis Hamilton just exploited a gap 😬 in the pits, reported it to Nelson Piquet, and like, "hey, go ahead and kiss the wall" 🤣 and then Ford takes first place . Honestly, the tactics were insane—just pure genius at finding those tiny loopholes in the rules. 🙏😬

Wait, correction... Ford takes second place ☕
Round 15: Singapore Grand Prix in Formula 1 ·
dustyhound said:come on, not every single race, give me a break 🙄
If that were true, why wouldn't everyone just cut that chicane every time 🙄
Clearly everyone else is clueless and Alonso is the only genius in the room...
You can claim Alonso is some master strategist, and yeah, his start looked solid... but the car cutting that chicane behind him wasn't even half as fast as what he pulled off... plus, that was Piquet's Renault, not a BMW, so it makes sense since they're basically the same crew 🙄

Alright, fine, if you really want to go there... at Monza, those start situations didn't happen because they all lined up behind the safety car...
🙄

Piquet cut less, but check out this photo—take a good look at the BMW (Heidfeld) cutting through that chicane with all four wheels before Alonso even gets there. 🤣
image
Also, look at how many cars were crowded on Alonso's right side and right behind him. He couldn't have avoided cutting the chicane if he wanted to. Any other move—just staying straight, veering right, or slamming the brakes—would've wrecked his car and probably someone else's too. So, Alonso's move was totally justified, just like Heidfeld's, who would've smashed right into Vettel if he hadn't cut the corner.
But hey, I guess you're just blinded by your Alonso grudge 🤣
You can't seriously be looking at this one single win and acting like he's the biggest threat to your favorite driver's title run this year, can you?
Round 15: Singapore Grand Prix in Formula 1 ·
dustyhound said:Of course they aren't going to penalize someone for cutting the chicane if they end up letting the guy they squeezed out pass them on the exit. Otherwise, they'd actually have to hand back a position, which nobody wants to do... 🙄
It was total chaos out there and super hard to judge, but I seriously don't get why they didn't at least put that messy situation under investigation...

Man, you clearly missed the point of what you tried to emphasize by rephrasing Morgan Murphy7's post to make it look obvious 🤣
Let me lay it out for you one more time... this happens in every single race. Nobody ever gets penalized or forced to give a spot back for cutting those first two chicanes right after the start, and it's never even an investigation matter.

P.S. What about that BMW that cut ahead right behind Fernando Alonso? That doesn't bother you? 🙄

rustystag7 said:No, no, don't get me wrong, I think Fernando Alonso is a legend and I’m stoked he won...

I just meant that there's at least half the crowd here rooting against someone rather than actually rooting for anyone...

And honestly, I really don't get what the thrill of winning is. Take me, for example—I'm a huge Felipe Massa fan, so if Lewis Hamilton is looking fast, I'm basically praying his engine blows up just so Massa can slide right past him...

A win doesn't taste sweet to me if you weren't truly the best.🤷

To be totally real, when I look at who's actually competing with Massa, I'm thinking Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Räikkönen, Heikki Kovalainen, and maybe Robert Kubica....

Everyone else is driving cars that are way too slow to be serious contenders. Of course, Alonso is the man, though, and if luck is on his side, he might end up behind the wheel of a Renault next season.🙏

I don't get why you used an engine failure as an example when that wasn't even what happened here. Massa had a bad pit stop, but the pits are part of every single race—it's how drivers gain or lose spots when they can't make moves directly on the track. That exact same pit crew might be the reason Massa wins the next race. Everything happens so fast, which is why mistakes happen; I'm pretty sure things would go smoothly if the mechanics had thirty seconds to refuel instead of seconds. Maybe the lollipop man takes an extra second to signal, but hey, it's a choice the team makes. So, I wouldn't call it a "misfortune" that would somehow invalidate the win for Alonso or the Renault fans. They should celebrate just as much as if Massa's mistake hadn't happened.

I just can't get on board with you downplaying this win. Alonso was the best out there in Miami, just like Vettel was the best in Monza. Even if they aren't sitting at the top of the standings and aren't driving the absolute fastest cars, they nailed those two races perfectly. They used their skill, their pace, and the track conditions to earn a well-deserved victory. Those wins might even mean more than Massa's or Hamilton's because they pulled them off in significantly worse cars. And if they don't mean more, they definitely taste sweeter.

In terms of the final standings, the people competing with Massa are exactly who you listed. My only disagreement is Kovalainen, since he's never going to be better than Hamilton, so he's not really a threat to Massa. But that doesn't mean they can't be the best on certain tracks by handling specific circumstances well, having the smartest team calls, or having the tightest pit crew. Is the "best" only the guy who hops into a car that's 20% faster than everyone else and cruises twenty seconds ahead of the field without hitting a single bump?

rustystag7 said:but look, I'm not one of those people praying to God for someone's engine to blow up right now...

Let him drive. If he stays ahead of Massa until the end, I'll give him his props, honestly. But this whole situation where they had to pull out? That's just straight-up bad luck...

There's a huge difference between hating on Ferrari and Massa and actually looking at what's happening on the track...
That’s why I don't get some of you guys. I don't know what kind of twisted logic makes you pray for a neighbor's cow to die or wish a Ferrari or Mercedes engine would explode just so your favorite driver can win.🤷

I don't see any sane person celebrating a win under these conditions.🤷

rustystag7 said:Sure, rooting for someone is great, and man, I wish Fernando Alonso could win every single day, but when things go south like they did today, it's just unreal. It's impossible.🤷

I'm honestly not following your drift with these posts.🤷
Are you trying to say Alonso didn't earn this win today?😕
He was the best in two out of the three practice sessions, cruised through Q2, and only missed out on a top qualifying spot because of bad luck with the fuel pump. Then today, in those opening laps (before the crash involving Pike), he sliced past four drivers on track. He drove the entire race without a single mistake, and if anyone deserves a win, it's him after today.
And saying it was made easier by Massa's accident? You can balance that out with Alonso's bad luck from yesterday.
