It feels a bit weird to me that he isn't complaining; I can't quite wrap my head around why his last lap was a 1.19 🤷 does that have anything to do with Hamilton standing out on the track? 🤷

But you're right, I can't deal with it either—I usually just end up bingeing some shows until the race actually starts. 🤣

I'm dying to see this, but the wait is driving me crazy.

Nah, Grandpa finished the fast lap before...☕

Oops, messed up the quote...😁

stormybadger8 said:Of course nobody complained, because McLaren isn't exactly going to go out and fight themselves.🤣
Besides, nobody ever complains about what everyone else is doing anyway; the real issue is that now everyone’s going to start exploiting this, and it’ll turn into absolute chaos with drivers just idling on the track at the end of qualifying right when someone else is trying to nail their flying lap.

Sure, things could get messy, but whatever, it's just a loophole in the rulebook and that's how the game works.🤣

I mean, just think about the scenario where next season my Grandpa drives the fastest lap in overalls and then ends up stalling dead in the middle of a corner in Monaco because he ran out of fuel and needed that one extra liter for inspection, while behind him Lewis Hamilton, Button, and Sebastian Vettel are all tearing through their fast laps, and suddenly they're all fighting for position because some old man is blocking the line.

Are we all just going to collectively nod and say "it's fine" because it follows the FIA directive rather than the actual rule?

It won't actually change anything, because it's highly likely the FIA will just tack on one more sentence to clarify it and paste it right back into the existing rulebook...☕

Give it a rest, I'm only quoting you because I really don't have the energy to argue anymore.😁

And as for Grandpa and parking cars... well, he’s been an expert at that for years.🤣🤣

stormybadger8 said:I already told you, I wouldn't even dream of calling for him to be penalized—not with a fine, and certainly not by stripping away any points.

If you ask me, the Team that gave him those instructions—the ones who decided to run his car on way too little fuel just to cheat the system—should be hit where it actually hurts. I’m talking about a massive points deduction and a fine north of $100,000. You have to punish them properly so everyone else realizes it's not okay to play games with the rules and treat the rest of the field like absolute idiots.

Honestly, the more I sit here and chew on it, the more I keep coming to the same conclusion—we’re basically cut from the same cloth.😁

Arthur Doyle70 - McLaren and Hamilton TBF - Red Bull and Vettel
McLaren and Hamilton TBF - Red Bull and Vettel

Honestly, it’s about time you and I grabbed a beer somewhere and hashed this all out over a bar counter. 🙂

I guess I’ll just add that I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for Gumbek, too. 😁

To be honest, I didn't hear a single soul from the team complaining about any of it. 🤷 I honestly can't be bothered to sit here and explain trivial nonsense to you when my blood pressure is already hitting triple digits. 🤣🤣 I’m honestly just going to stick my head under a faucet of ice-cold water until I melt away... that's about all I can handle right now.

stormybadger8 said:you're comparing apples to oranges here, and honestly, even a regular working guy in the States could realistically pull that kind of cash—take someone from London where Lewis Hamilton is from, for instance; I’m pretty sure at least half the population there could hit those savings without breaking a sweat, so slapping a massive fine on someone pulling in tens of millions a year just feels ridiculous.

No, I’m not getting worked up at you, if anything, you’re just reminding me of myself😁🤣

you're out here defending the indefensible at any cost🤣

God, you're annoying again😁 I was just pointing out how you mentioned the mistake and immediately pivoted like an F1 driver, which felt totally disconnected, and besides, what would you even do now? What penalty would you actually hand him🤷 strip his pole position, make him start from the pits, fine him half a million dollars😁... F1 has become such a monotonous slog that people are starting to obsess over these tiny details, it's basically just the era of F1 tabloid journalism now...

stormybadger8 said:how can you say he couldn't

there might be people here who could drop 100,000 bucks without even taking out a loan, so I don't get why you think 10,000 is some massive fortune for an F1 driver

I mean, honestly, some random mid-tier American soccer player makes way more than that without a second thought 🤣 where would they find Hamilton? If someone told any F1 driver today, or even Peter Chandok, that they could bend the rules to get an edge over everyone else and basically start the Canadian Grand Prix from a PP, you really think Chanok wouldn't cough up 10,000 dollars for that? 🤣🤣

So mistybear87 is an F1 driver now, is he? 🤷🤣 I was just making a comment about the working class 🤣🤣
I wasn't trying to insult mistybear87, and I'm pretty sure he didn't take it that way anyway ☕

Why are you getting so worked up? 🤷 You've just been getting under my skin lately 😁

Jose Long4 said:In my view, the rules were absolutely broken here, and honestly, the FIA seems just as lost as the rest of us regarding what they should actually enforce. It feels like Lewis Hamilton secured that pole position specifically because he was running empty—he was light enough to fly in that final lap, which isn't how it's supposed to work...

I don't think he would have pulled it off if things hadn't played out exactly the way they did.
The rulebook is pretty clear: you are required to have at least one liter of fuel left in the tank when qualifying ends, purely so they can pull a sample and verify everything is legit...

That’s how the regulations go. But of course, they couldn't exactly pull a liter of fuel from him for testing since he showed up with nothing, so now we're stuck in this limbo. It’s an unfair advantage, plain and simple; it just doesn't feel right when the rules apply to everyone else but somehow bend for certain drivers...

Think about track and field for a second; if an athlete gets flagged for a doping test and can't provide a sample within the required window, they lose their result and their standing. Period. The FIA should be playing by those same principles, even if the method is different. He didn't have the fuel for the test, and he managed to finish his Lap under conditions the others didn't get. Though, looking at how the FIA is behaving, they seem to be taking a very wide lens on this one...

If you ask me, I'm calling it now: the guy starting on pole won't be the winner, and we'll definitely see a Safety Car on the track...

They shut the car down the second the pit wall signaled them to, mostly because if they hadn't, there wouldn't have been any fuel left at all—not even that single liter they need...
The penalty is strictly because he took too long to get back to the pits, essentially lingering on the track, since there wasn't some mechanical failure to blame despite the lack of fuel...

If the car had completely run dry and there was zero fuel left, the penalty would have been much more severe... ☕

All this is being reported on the major F1 news sites...👍

mistybear87 said:Nobody breaks the rules just for the hell of it. Driving a car without a steering wheel and then hanging out in the cockpit like that is a blatant safety hazard, and there has to be some kind of penalty for it. It doesn't have to be stripping him of pole position or his points—there are plenty of other ways to handle it. Honestly, that $10,000 fine is a joke; I pull in more than that just doing errands for my bank, let alone someone like Lewis Hamilton. ☕

Look, mistybear87, you can't even walk into a Chase branch to withdraw ten grand without them trying to talk you into a high-interest loan. 😁 😉 Yeah, looks like we’re on the exact same page.

Sure, they love to throw around that "safety concerns" line, but you really have to wonder whose safety they’re actually worried about in the end.
It feels a little ironic to him getting penalized for compromising his own safety when he’s basically the one calling the shots on that. From what I could see, there wasn't anyone else out on the track until the Safety Car showed up anyway.🤷

Thomas Morales13 said:Nah, that's not what I meant; I was saying a million bucks would be overkill, but even $100k wouldn't be quite as ridiculous as $10...
I think Arthur Doyle70 was hinting that $100k is still a joke for someone like Lewis Hamilton, though maybe he wasn't quite...👍

Whoops, my bad... 🙂 you totally misread me here... 😁
The quote was about an absolutely absurd amount of money...☕

Thomas Morales13 said:Yeah, it’s like we’re being punished with $3.25, when honestly, they should have slapped him with at least a $100,000 fine; he'll probably just cruise to a win today anyway and the celebrations will start immediately..
If Grandpa got hit with a ten-dollar fine every single time he messed up, he'd be tripping over himself making mistakes on every single lap just to avoid hearing anyone complain about penalties..
Then again, I suppose I agree that because of these massive loopholes in the rulebook, they shouldn't be stripping drivers of points or positions; just hit them where it hurts—their wallets..

100k$ 🤦

stormybadger8 said:I mean, back in the day they used to hand out penalties for stuff this minor constantly, so I can't say I disagree with you there.

A few years ago, an error like this would have easily landed Lewis Hamilton a penalty that forced him to start from the pit lane.

It's just how things are now, I guess, though I'm not a fan of this soft approach they're taking lately either; it feels pretty foolish to me, like we spent years punishing everyone for every little thing only to suddenly turn a blind eye now just to make up for old mistakes.

Jean Todt seems to be aiming to strip all the points away from McLaren and both their drivers because of the f-duct, and then they'll probably come after RB for their suspension too, leaving us with Ferrari as the champions by default.😬

So yeah, that's basically how it looks...👍

They should honestly just penalize all of them.🤣🤣

stormybadger8 said:the team is being unfairly targeted🤣

I can't even remember the last time McLaren actually caught heat for something serious🤷

it was that whole mess with Lewis Hamilton lying about things, and before that, the entire Hamilton-Alonso photocopy scandal.

When you look at the big picture, I'm pretty sure they’ve been one of the cleanest teams out there over the last two seasons.

So what does that even matter🤣 🤣, are we just going to crush them now just for the sake of the stats😂
, it's basically an OUT move—they used to do stuff like this back in the day, and I'm sure the FIA is just cooking up some new way to mess with them☕
US Grand Prix 2010 in Formula 1 ·
Man... things used to be different back in the day 😲, but I guess journalists in this "modern" era have gotten bored, so now the tabloids just blast everyone with sixteen different headlines until people actually start having interesting debates 🤣

stormybadger8 said:McLaren gets hammered until Max finally deals with Denis; once that happens, the penalties vanish, and they'll probably just start looking the other way entirely.

name one penalty from this season for MCM 🙂

you want a few shady calls? here:

the F-duct
team orders during the Hamilton-Button situation
running qualifying on fumes and then playing the "we didn't realize our fuel levels" card to dodge the rules🙄

10000 bucks 😬
US Grand Prix 2010 in Formula 1 ·
stormybadger8 said:The car was seriously short on fuel—don't try to spin it—it wasn't just a matter of not having enough for an inspection; there wasn't even enough juice to make it back to the pits, let alone pass a test.

They found a loophole, which honestly feels like just another Tuesday where the FIA fails to penalize the real offenders while breathing down everyone's necks over completely harmless technicalities.

Besides, the rulebook is full of holes that let people manipulate things whenever it suits them.

I remember when Michael Schumacher got slapped with a penalty for something almost identical because of a similar loophole, so they're just being inconsistent as usual.😉
While during that same race, Rubens Barrichello didn't get hit with anything even remotely significant.

It's not Hamilton or McLaren's fault this time, but I wouldn't be surprised if they end up penalizing someone else who’s actually struggling with genuine car issues and can't physically reach the pits after qualifying.

Hamilton was asked by his engineer to pull to the side of the circuit so that enough fuel was left in his tank for a fuel sample to be taken.
If you really want proof, I can send you the links, but it seems like we're seeing yet another case where people are penalized solely
because they exceeded the time limit to reach the pits... and that's the whole story.

McLaren didn't write the rules; they were drafted by an incompetent organization led by that former Ferrari boss who took over from a complete maniac, so hey, they have their own leadership—feel free to send them an email if you want to complain.😉

stormybadger8 said:It’s all getting a little extreme, honestly—let's just dial it back. 🙄

The rule is pretty straightforward: you have to make it back to the pits within a specific window, and you need to have at least one liter of fuel left in the tank when you pull in.

It’s just how they play the game—bending the rules until they snap. And then suddenly, there’s this convenient "miscommunication" within the team, and oh, look at that, they just didn't realize they were running out of fuel. 🙄

So, they basically just lean on that clause if something unexpected goes sideways.

It’s pretty obvious that the crew is just lying and cheating their way through.☕

They love to pick a fight and then turn around and act all high and mighty, accusing everyone else of making up the very lies they started themselves. Honestly, it’s just exhausting to watch. 🙂

Kudos to both Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, but honestly, McLaren is being a complete joke lately and they really need to get their act together.

There was more than enough fuel left in the car for the FIA to pull whatever amount they needed and still have a few extra milliliters to spare.🤣
The only real issue here is how much time they’re going to waste limping back to the pits, which is exactly why they'll get slapped with a penalty and sent packing.☕
Honestly, this is actually pretty useful since they finally stumbled upon a loophole in the regulations—who knows how many times it’s been sitting there—so at least now they can actually fix it. They really ought to get a thank you note for that. 😬

It looks like Jean Todt is going to end up being a total fanboy for McM. 🤣🤣 I mean, I already said it—back when we were absolutely tearing them apart with that old Mosley nonsense, maybe it’s time we actually tried to de-escalate things for once.😂

stormybadger8 said:Why are we even talking about this? It’s clearly just a scam, and that PP was won through nothing but pure deception anyway. ☕

I've gotta hand it to him, the kid pulled off an absolutely legendary lap there. 🙏
It’s honestly pretty stupid to try and take anything away from him; he should just be allowed to keep his PP and all five.

Honestly, this whole circus—running on fumes, playing games with the rulebook, and then acting like they didn't know the tank was empty while they were busy stripping the steering wheels just to keep the show going—it’s all just a pathetic little performance. 🙄

It’s a total disgrace, honestly, and the worst part is watching how other teams are going to start copying this nonsense. I mean, isn't it such an obvious, cheap advantage to just cruise through a lap on an empty tank to shave off some weight? It's all they have to do. Just shut up and everything will be fine. .

Honestly, they need to nail the team with some serious penalties and strip them of every single point Lewis Hamilton picks up.

Man, he absolutely laid it out there. 🤣🤣

It all felt a bit extreme, if I'm being honest. They could have just ordered him to pull the car over right by the trackside and let a crane haul it away, but honestly, calling that championship win a total scam feels like a bit much coming from you. 😉

You know that old feeling, that sense that maybe, just maybe, I’ll get my turn at something like that one day. 🤣🤣

Give me a break... it feels like they're trying to penalize Christian Horner now just because he’s playing dumb, as if letting a guy just do his job and do it his way is suddenly a crime. 😂

mistybear87 said:I know he walked away with nothing more than a slap on the wrist, which is exactly why I’m saying we need a real penalty here instead of some pathetic, symbolic gesture that doesn't actually change anything. 👎

Cut the nonsense and get to the point. 😉 If I could just take a few things off his plate to give him some breathing room, honestly, that would be enough for me.
It was just a complete joke from the FIA, honestly. Since McM is involved, I wouldn't be surprised if even the old guard sided with him.
Man, they kicked him out of the race, but honestly? It’s probably for the best—ten grand and he can just walk away. 🤷 What's really the point in digging all that up anyway?
