Rachel Vaughn85 said:Hey everyone! 😁

I see there are some folks here who are a bit more knowledgeable about this topic than I am, so I wanted to pick your brains.

I haven't had nose surgery (though, yes, I am planning to get that bump removed one of these days 😁), but setting that aside, my nose runs a million times a day. It’s nothing crazy—just clear, watery discharge—but it happens constantly. Honestly, I’ve lost count of how many tissues I go through, and this has been going on for years now. Anyone who knows me has definitely noticed; I even got an entire bulk pack of tissues for my birthday once as a joke! 😂 It’s especially noticeable whenever I step outside, move from outdoors back into the house, or even just when I take a deep breath because I'm in a rush. I realize a runny nose is normal, but I feel like mine happens way more often than it should.

I'm sure it's nothing serious, but I'm curious—why does this happen? Is my nasal mucosa just overly sensitive, or could it be something else entirely?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

Do you have allergies?
Clear secretion usually points directly to that rather than a deviated septum. You should probably get an allergy workup: a nasal cytology test for eosinophils, total IgE levels, and inhalation allergen testing via a Prick test.
Robert Scott16 said:Even with all the cutting-edge 🙄 tech out there—whatever that actually entails these days—it’s still going to be the surgeon's steady, expert hands doing the real work, not some machine.

Thumbs up.
It doesn't really matter.
You should try booking an appointment with your preferred ENT specialist through the online portal.
For now—definitely.
Daniel Sullivan36 said:Alright, thanks for all the feedback. It seems pretty obvious that surgery is going to be necessary, so I was also wondering if it would be possible to combine the corrective procedure with some cosmetic work? Also, would anything like that be covered by Medicare?

Cosmetic stuff is a total gray area. It's definitely one of those "maybe" situations.
Alexander Gonzalez79 said:I’ll probably head in sometime these next few days. Honestly, this feeling has been popping up for quite a while now, though it comes and goes. I haven't treated it like a major issue until now, but it definitely isn't normal, so I really need to get checked out. 😉 And it often feels like something is just draining down into my throat.

Is there blood involved, or does it feel like something is draining and then, if you manage to clear it, it looks like white mucus?
If that's what's happening, you might be dealing with chronic rhinosinusitis. There isn't a permanent cure, but the spray mentioned above helps restore the mucous membrane, reduces inflammation, and lowers the amount of discharge.
You could also give Sinupret lozenges a try.
It really depends on whether your nose is just dry—like, if the mucous membrane has cracked. If you're blowing your nose too hard, you can actually burst capillaries, so you should definitely check in with an ENT. In the meantime, try using some Nisita ointment or Nisita Spray. If the issue is actually sinus-related, something like an Inks spray or maybe Nasomex 1 x2 might help, though it could take about a month to see results.
Anything is possible—but honestly, it usually comes at the expense of the hospital's bottom line. At Vinogradska Hospital, the standard stay is typically five days, though maybe they'll shave a day off for some minor procedures.
Dealing with nasal polyps in Health ·
I’d suggest using Flixonase drops—just about half an ampule a day for a full month.

Once you get an appointment with an ENT specialist, they’ll likely find it's just an antrochoanal polyp, which is actually great news because those are super straightforward to clear out surgically.
As for that nasal cycle description you mentioned—honestly, everything looks perfectly normal there.
One big piece of advice, though: please stay away from those decongestant nasal sprays. They end up wrecking your nasal lining and leave you totally dependent on them without actually solving the underlying issue.
Hannah Hernandez9 said:I’m a little confused right now: Rebro has an aesthetic surgery center, but they don't do rhinoplasty because that's handled by ENT specialists. However, on the ENT page, it says they actually *do* offer both facelifts and rhinoplasty. So, technically, I could probably pay for everything legally, just like you would at the aesthetic surgery center. But who should I actually reach out to? Does anyone know which aesthetician there is any good? Feel free to shoot me a private message!

It seems like everyone wants a piece of the pie when it comes to nose surgery—plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, you name it. But honestly, if you ask me, ENTs are the way to go. They have this systematic, deep, and continuous understanding of the nose because they have to account for both function and aesthetics. True beauty comes from those anatomical proportions working perfectly together, and you really can't fight against proper anatomy if you want a good result.
Alright - things are looking much clearer now.

So, I’ve got a bit of a situation going on. For the last few years now, I feel like I can only breathe through one nostril—the left one. Seriously, if you put your hand under your nose, you can actually feel all the air coming out of the left side, while absolutely nothing comes out of the right. It’s like, zero. Even when I try to block the left side, the right side still barely lets any air through. Also, when I check inside the right nostril, it feels like there's something stuck in there, something slimy, almost like a part of my own anatomy is blocking the airway. To be honest, it isn't a massive issue for me; I can live with it, but I was wondering if anyone knows what might be causing this? I’ve been thinking about heading over to my doctor lately to see if there's a way to fix it. I do have Medicare, so that should make things easier.

It could be a deviated septum, a polyp, or maybe hypertrophied nasal turbinates.

Daaa! And they even told me I should feel honored because a procedure like this only happens once a year. Happy, happy, happy!!! If only I weren't dealing with this cold right now (basically just a runny nose and constant sniffing), recovery would definitely be a lot smoother.

Is that once a year for you personally, or once a year at the clinic?
Can you define the blood volume and describe exactly what it looks like? Like, are we talking about fresh blood, or is it already clotted?

I have a quick question for you all. I feel like it might be a bit too soon to head to the doctor, but here is what happened. About 10 days ago, I slipped and took a nasty fall, hitting my nose directly against the concrete. I went in to get some scans done and thankfully there weren't any fractures, but there was definitely swelling and some bleeding. The swelling has gone down now, though it still feels a little tender if I touch it.

But here is the issue...
A bump has appeared... specifically image right between the first two lines, starting from the top and moving down!

I'm wondering how smart it would be to go get it fixed, and if it's even possible to remove it. The reason I'm asking is because there isn't an aesthetic surgery center near me that specializes in this kind of thing.

Is there any chance that this bump might just disappear on its own in another 10 days or so?

If there supposedly wasn't a fracture, then where did that bump come from?
Just something to think about.

Best,

Maybe take a quick look back through the history of this thread.
You probably will.
That elevated heart rate could honestly just be a bit of pre-doctor jitters and excitement.
As for fasting from food and water, the staff at the department will give you all the details on that once you arrive.
loneowl68 said:Yeah, I actually went ahead and booked my appointment with Dr. Smith for January 29th.
I'm just going to try and find a way to see him even sooner if possible.
Thanks so much!

I honestly lose my mind every single time. I start questioning my own sanity! One day I just couldn't take it anymore and had to call my husband over to come check it out—just so it wouldn't get too crazy—but it actually looks dark blue??!!!!

You really ought to take a look at it just like I suggested.
