If an E8400 can handle an HD7970 at stock settings, then it’ll breeze through an HD7850 without breaking a sweat.

I already told you why there’s no point in swapping things out. Just grab a new GPU and an extra 2GB of RAM.
GPU HD7700-7850
And if you’re planning on overclocking that CPU, just be careful not to push it too hard. The issue with these motherboards is that when you crank up the CPU clock, you end up hiking the FSB and DRAM frequencies along with it...

Go ahead, tell him... tell him everything. 🙂

In that case, you don't really need anything else besides the GPU.

Oh, please. First you have to deal with the headache of actually finding a buyer, and then you still have to convince them that the thing even supports Havok.

Larry Bailey94 said:So, I'm running an Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 at 2.33 GHz, an ATI Radeon X1550, 2GB of RAM, and a 240W power supply (though I already have a 600W one sitting around waiting for some new parts). My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L, I've got a 400GB hard drive, and so on... I'm using a Samsung SyncMaster 920n which I don't plan on replacing, and I've got Windows 7 Ultimate installed.

@David Sanders4/">@@David Sanders4, if my budget stays within $500, then that's where we are.

Regarding that monitor, the AMD Radeon HD 7700 OC is a perfectly decent choice, and if you go with the HD 7850, you should be set for about three years... unless, of course, you try playing something with absolutely ridiculous system requirements.

So, is that discount capped at a certain amount, or what?
If it's a significant enough deal, I’d jump on an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 or an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 without a second thought.
That assumes you're running a Wide monitor larger than 22 inches.
Otherwise, if the screen is smaller, I'd probably just stick to a GTX 660/660 Ti or an AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870.

Larry Bailey94 said:Regarding the GPU, I’m looking for something from this site that works well with those three cards I mentioned. My budget is roughly $1,000 to $1,200, provided it's actually decent. I really need to pull the trigger through them because I have a 50% discount on any single graphics card, so I don't need anything overkill—just a solid mid-range option that will hold up for the next three or four years.

Wait, you're telling me you actually have a 50% discount??

It might just be running at 720p, so it’s probably not as big of a deal; after all, the PS3 handles most games at that resolution anyway...

Good grief... look, I am not mentally unstable, and I am definitely not too lazy to actually get moving and improve myself... It’s just that I have zero motivation—none at all—to get going. I have the will, I really do, but I’m missing that one crucial push, you know? That validation from the people around me that tells me I can actually become who I want to be. Is it really such a sin—or am I just being an idiot—to ask another human being to help nudge me out of this rut? Because apparently, wanting that immediately means I'm "not normal" and need professional intervention...

No, I don't have anyone I can actually trust with this... maybe that's why I'm like this—because I don't have a single real friend in my life that I can pour my entire soul out to... I just don't...

Maybe those who haven't walked a similar path just don't get it. I'm not suggesting you seek professional help, because they often lack a personalized touch. They've been swallowed by routine; they aren't interested in the root cause, only the diagnosis. It becomes a vicious cycle of prescriptions that "professional help" tends to lead you into...
