Sanctions on Russia in War in Ukraine ·
The war in Ukraine will end. Sooner or later.
And once the money starts flowing like a flood—straight toward Niagara Falls, essentially—to Ukraine,
Europe is going to enjoy at least a decade of an economic boom that'll make the pre-pandemic era look like a recession.
Meanwhile, Russia will be left standing firmly on the other side of the fence, just watching it happen.

I think they're talking about seizing foreign planes—apparently, there are maybe 500 of them sitting in the US right now.

It doesn't matter, they'll just end up servicing them themselves and manufacturing their own spare parts.
Until everything eventually falls out of the sky, at which point they'll just switch over to those incredibly reliable domestic Boeings.

Last week, Germany Said IT would taka steps to diversify its Energy supply away fra Russia, announcing a €1.5 billion ($1.6 billion) order for non-Russian liquefied natural gas and a possible slowdown of its exit from coal.

Wait, so to cut their reliance on Russian gas, the Germans are going to burn more coal? I’m struggling to see how that aligns with their green agenda and the whole fight against climate change.

God doesn't need to beg.

They don't.
Like that economist put it: Russia is double fucked.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a sudden, explosive boom in alternative energy solutions.

Like I said, in the long run, we're going to come out ahead.

Europe is going to get absolutely hammered on energy in the short term. There’s no point in kidding ourselves about it; we’re all going to feel the sting.
In the long run, though, diversification is where we actually stand to win.

Plus, those 2015 measures cost them a massive 33% drop in GDP.
Since then, they’ve barely managed to crawl back to where they were in 2011.
Even those weak, half-hearted sanctions effectively wiped out nearly a decade of economic progress.
If this current trend keeps up, it’ll drag them all the way back to the late 80s.

Alright, fine. I didn't realize that having a discussion about vaccines and their actual side effects was considered a way of derailing the conversation from the topic at hand.

@Morgan Peterson why did they scrub my reply to lazybones1 on that "Vaccination...part 4" thread?

It was just me comparing different countries and asking that guy what he actually thinks about mandatory vaccinations.

You’re being a bit too optimistic here. They won't even acknowledge the presence of antibodies, let alone grant any credit to additional immune mechanisms.
If someone were to drop down from Mars and take a look at this, they’d quickly realize that the human body is an incredibly fragile system where the response to pathogens either happens by pure, sheer luck in a tiny fraction of cases or through immunity induced entirely by external means.

P.S. Just a quick correction on that inaccurate point: Unless you're a Republican. In that case, I guess antibodies suddenly exist.

Good luck trying to claim a patent from your own employer.

Just wait until they try to explain why none of this shows up in the stock price.

Linda Harris59 said:It’s complete nonsense. To actually build up natural immunity, you would have had to face the virus head-on without any preventative measures, essentially gambling with your life and risking a fatal outcome.

It stands to reason.

The Omicron variant emerged from regions where vaccination rates were practically non-existent. That is precisely why this specific mutation gained such massive traction; it evolved to bypass even the natural immunity people had already built up.

Actually, it isn't pointless, considering there were plenty of people who caught COVID back when nobody even had the option to choose whether or not to get vaccinated.

If there had been an honest, transparent effort to study how robust that natural immunity actually was, we could have already had a solid dataset—since the vaccine was clearly on the horizon and everyone knew it was coming eventually. All that would have been left was to crunch the numbers and see what we found.

But since that kind of approach never happened, we ended up with exactly what we have now.

Linda Harris59 said:That comparison is fundamentally flawed because the entire point of vaccination is preventative protection.

It isn't senseless because we are strictly talking about comparing the robustness of acquired immunity.

First it was 70%, then 80%, and now we're already at 85%... I guess we're just constantly moving the goalposts. At this rate, I expect them to tell us we need 105% pretty soon. It's starting to feel a bit like a local election in Knoxville...

Samuel Turner2 said:Are you seriously suggesting that the safety profile of these shots is identical—or even close—to the vaccines kids are required to get?
If that's your stance, what exactly are you basing that on?

He pulled that number straight out of thin air. It’s just like every other sweeping generalization he tosses around this forum, purely to provoke some endless, pointless debate where he'll inevitably demand a "link to the study" for a thesis he invented himself.
I’ve seen this exact routine at least 300 times now.
And if you call him out or report him for trolling, a ban arrives—just not for him, obviously.

He said it plain enough—it was all about the trip. There isn't some grander motivation or any deeper reason behind it.
On top of that, he didn't bother doing any actual research beforehand, and he went straight against his wife's wishes. Poor guy, he's really digging himself a hole here.

Since when did Prevenar become part of the standard vaccination schedule? When we were getting our kid vaccinated, it was an out-of-pocket expense.
