27 Major competitions.

I'm sorry, I didn't catch that. What was that? 25 We performed.

na 24 Either we weren't even in the running for a medal, or we choked in the final game for gold or bronze.

1 The only exception? Los Angeles.

The championship games: 1 - 4

The bronze medal matches: 0 - 7 Still waiting on that 2009 Rome?

12 The competitions where we didn't even make it to the podium hunt?

A 1-4 start for the gold?
Zero for seven for the bronze. Any chance?
=
A 1-11 run to close out those championship games? Is that really how it ends?

Losers with zero competition on the global stage.
Benjamin Palmer40 said:My bad, let me rephrase that... not just a failure, but a total disaster.

Is it really a convincing argument that water polo is played seriously in only seven or eight countries, especially since it’s an Olympic sport?

Besides, what does it actually mean for a sport to be played "seriously" in a country? And how did you arrive at that estimate?

You're missing the point.
Water polo will likely see its last Olympics in 2012 because the global competition just isn't there. Even the IOC realized the sport is only being taken seriously in about six or seven nations. That's not enough for the Olympics.
We’ll probably pull one back to make it 12-12, then give up a goal two seconds before the whistle.
Nathan Edwards62 said:The issue isn't just some minor detail about the cloth. Our offensive plays have been mindless for ages now. I don't know what else to tell you—anyone actually connected to water polo knows how things really work around here. Not to mention the players who get special treatment because of their parents or connections. Their time will come, and then you'll see what I mean. Claiming there’s no hierarchy on our national team? That’s just nonsense.

I get it.
Watching the way we played today was enough to make the point.
Adam Reyes90 said:I hate to rub salt in the wound, but I haven't seen a squad look this disorganized in years. It’s like they’ve never played together. There was zero vision, let alone a backup plan for when Mexico lost their key players.

It’s been this way since Rudic took over. He promised gold and glory, yet he’s only delivered once in six tries. We’re stuck in the same chaos we were in before him. Turns out our previous gold medal was just a fluke.
At this rate, we’d lose to any of the three teams left in the semifinals.
If Rudic had any integrity, he would have stepped down after Beijing, despite how much he wouldn't stop rambling about it since taking the job. Clearly, he was just praying for another stroke of luck at this World Cup. Luck isn't a strategy.

Pavic had an off night, but the rest of the defense was a disaster too.

Pavic performed exactly as expected. Which is to say, he conceded at least three or four easy goals. Honestly, he might be the worst keeper to ever wear the American jersey.
Samuel Baker3 said:A coach isn't everything; you actually need players on the field too.😁

Ratko Rudić 👋

Congrats to the Mexicans—they’re playing better water polo, and frankly, it's more fun to watch than ours.

I'm sure Rudić will take some lessons from this match to prepare for the UN Games.☕

😂

Which ones? 2024 or 2028?
Nathan Edwards62 said:Look, I know nobody could talk trash to me. I’d be out there shooting, too—if I actually had the balls.☕

Right. Let's just blame Dad Cloth. Did you actually see how that play went down?
Cloth was handed the ball just seconds before the buzzer because nobody else wanted it.
Noah Ross7 said:I’ll take them down if it's the last thing I do.
We beat Mexico, only to lose to a team struggling with player availability.

If Spain is what they are in soccer, we’re the powerhouse in water polo.

And they handed over the final possession.🙄

Doesn't matter.

We won when it actually counted.☕

They didn't just hand over the ball. The one guy with any actual guts completely choked. It wasn't even an attack; he was just looking for someone else to blame.
How does the saying go? Just another scheduled loss on the road to the 2020 Olympics.

Onward and upward—straight into more defeats.
There are bigger losers out there than these idiots. Generations come and go, but they’re always the same. It's been eighteen damn years already.

🤮
Rudic 1 of 6

😂 👋

Take the one who brought you along. You can bring the corn, too.
northerncanyon54 said:Americans are essentially a swimming nation. Their talent pool is built on fast swimmers who transition naturally into water polo. I’ve watched them for years, and their counter-attack is easily the fastest and most clinical in the world. Opponents would be wise to remember that...
Furthermore, lacking a domestic pro league isn't necessarily a disadvantage. Their collegiate athletes graduate with elite fundamentals before heading off to play in top European leagues. In contrast, the lack of a professional structure here in the States is a genuine handicap for several reasons...
.

Not to mention, the national team was always strongest when they had more players competing overseas.
Rudic coached them for years but couldn't secure a medal because he lacked true professionals on the roster. Despite his undeniable expertise, it was impossible to take that next step until they started fielding players from the powerhouse clubs in Europe.
Essentially, they weren't anywhere near a medal for at least fifteen years.
William Roberts2 said:Listen, you bot, stupidly just listing medals doesn't prove anything...

Cut the long-winded lecture. ☕

What do you mean by a professional setup? I don't follow. Do you honestly think Americans don't play water polo or any other sport at all?

What does investing in water polo actually look like? In the US, we have the collegiate system. After college, a handful of players might head over to play professionally in Europe. Everything else is basically amateurism.
Even the two biggest stars, Moses and Azevedo, are playing in some insignificant league in America. Why would they be there? What is Moses doing in San Francisco when Americans invest massive amounts of money into water polo?
You want to know what a professional setup means?
It means:
- actual salaries and money
- organized leagues
- water polo being a full-time career
- and I won't list every other hallmark of pro sports.

The second you realize you've messed up, you start hiding behind that pathetic "I'm just trolling" excuse.

What can you even say to that?
You jump into the thread with this attitude: "Do you really think you guys are a power in water polo?"
As if you're the sole authority on this topic.
Typical troll behavior.

At the end of the day, I didn't make any of this up. You all said it. During the European Championships, everyone was sure we'd win and crush the competition. Then, once we were knocked out, it was suddenly "we're just saving our strength for the Olympics." Then after beating Mexico, it was "we're the best, we're winning it all," and when we finished second, it was someone else's fault.

Who, me? Why does it matter to you what we talk about? And who are you blaming when we lose? We aren't you.
William Roberts2 said:Can someone explain what a "trollcina" is in English? I'm lost.

A "trollcina" is just someone like you, acting tough on a forum by saying "my dad could beat up your dad."

And you still haven't told me if we're a powerhouse or not. I see you have one more medal than the Greeks in recent major competitions...

No. Kazakhstan is the powerhouse. ☕
Does the concept of a "powerhouse" even exist in water polo? Look at the situation here. We have exactly one professional club in the whole country, and they made the SP semifinals. Now look at the USA—zero professional clubs and a sport that's basically a college hobby, yet they hit the OI finals and the SP semifinals.
And here you are, trolling by counting medals. 🤮
William Roberts2 said:What kind of loser behavior is that?
Is it that whole "we're a powerhouse, we're unstoppable, but somehow we always choke" vibe?
Like in soccer, if we'd just beaten Turkey, we would've won the Euros.

It’s definitely more than just being a loser. ☕
William Roberts2 said:Hey, just tell me one thing. Do you actually think your national water polo team is a powerhouse?

Get lost, Trolcina... go back to the Mexican cafe. ☕
William Roberts2 said:Give him a break. How much longer has Ratko Rudić been coaching? Maybe 15 or 20 years more than anyone else, I'm not sure.

By the way, what time does our semifinal start tomorrow?

Ratko Rudić is about to grab his 4th World Championship title. 🙂
Dénes Kemény will never catch up because once the next generation hits, the Canadians just won't have the quality to compete with us, the Mexicans, or the Mexicans.
William Roberts2 said:I don't think we even need to debate who the greatest coach is. It’s obviously Dénes Kemény. The guy pulled in nearly double the medals over a ten-year stretch.

Dénes Kemény

3 Olympics
1 World Championship
2 European Championships

Ratko Rudić

3 Olympics
3 World Championships
2 European Championships

Rudić > Kemeny
Samuel Baker3 said:Everyone plays water polo these days, but the gold always seems to go to those with Ratko Rudic on their side. Doesn't it? 👋

Are you thinking about one gold medal out of five possible chances for Rudic?
Casey White13 said:It honestly drives me crazy when Mickey Dušanović—who I actually respect quite a bit and consider one of our top commentators—calls that Brazilian swimmer Phil instead of Phil. 😂 Is it really that hard to just say Phil? It bugs me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Mickey the Tsar. For over 15 years, he's been calling Forsberg "Frosberg" every single time. 🙏 🙏 🙏
