Windows 7 in Software ·
I just finished installing Windows 7 on a brand-new rig I put together earlier today.
Which motherboard monitoring software are you all running? I’ve tried three different options and only one actually worked—MBM 5 isn't cutting it for me, mostly because it lacks that handy feature to show temperatures constantly in the taskbar like the other one does.

I ran into another headache: I can't get the DVD that came with my Dell motherboard to behave—check the link, as it doesn't seem to be fully compatible with Windows 7. I tried launching the DVD in XP compatibility mode, but then the actual applications won't run properly; it feels like I'd have to manually trigger every single app through compatibility mode by digging through folders instead of using the main setup utility. I read somewhere that Dell stopped releasing drivers for Windows 7 RC, though it seems they might have only done that for their newer, high-end boards (see link here).

Does anyone happen to know anything about this?

Does anyone happen to have a reliable direct download link for RC7100 x86? I'd prefer to avoid torrents unless they're actually high-speed.

I've been digging through RapidShare, but it's a mess—one part is there, the next one is missing, and so on.

Oh, wait, I just realized—you can actually grab it directly from the Microsoft pages here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../download.aspx

I used to dabble in Corel back in the day
It really just depends on what you do for a living...

Well, I mostly just stick to Microsoft Word, usually with a few other light apps running in the background. I rarely touch anything particularly demanding. In that case, would it be better to just install the x86 version? Also, I'm considering picking up an extra 1 GB stick of RAM, though I'm on the fence about whether it's worth it—partly because of the price, and partly because I'm worried I won't get that dual-channel benefit, right?

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm currently running 2 GB of RAM and a 256 GB drive with shared graphics—I don't really game or anything, so I don't need a beefier GPU right now; if the need arises, I'll buy one, though I doubt it'll happen. I'm thinking about picking up another 2 GB once I run low on memory—honestly, I think I messed up by not just grabbing 4 GB from the start.
Well, that's some new info, and now I'm stuck deciding between x86 and x64. If I install 4 GB and 750 MB of that RAM stays inactive, what then? I'd really rather not deal with driver issues, but since I don't know much more about it, I'm not sure how likely that actually is. (I'm assuming upgrading from x86 to x64 isn't an option? Man, modern computers feel so outdated sometimes 😁 )

Offtopic: I trust anyone who seems to be telling the truth, provided my own experiences back up what they're saying.

Could you walk me through this a bit? (I'm sitting on just 2 GB of RAM right now, though I'm planning to pick up another 2 sticks "any day now")
How does this whole 64-bit thing actually work? Since I have a 64-bit processor, my motherboard should handle 64-bit, right? (I'm a bit out of my depth here.) So, if I install x86, will everything just run at 32-bit?
Does that hit performance? What's the actual impact? Does it only slow things down when I'm running a specific 64-bit application? (I haven't stumbled upon a single 😁 yet.)

And why isn't anything less than 4GB enough?

And yeah, you nailed it. I'd suggest you don't use that as your primary OS.

What are the reasons?

Is it possible to upgrade between different builds? For instance, if I install 7100, can I then move up to RC, and from there to RC 2, etc.? Or am I looking at a mandatory clean installation every single time?

I actually just picked up a new rig today—I still need to find some downtime to get everything assembled—and my plan is to install Windows 7. I’ve been eyeing this since I read an article on YouTube about two months ago claiming the betas were practically as stable as the final release. Apparently, everything works great, aside from maybe two or three major bugs involving media files or something like Winamp, which isn't a huge deal for me personally.

I primarily use this PC for work, and frankly, I don't have the patience to run a clean installation constantly—I usually stick with the same version of Windows for years at a time. That's why I'm specifically asking about the upgrade path. If I install the RC version now, will I be able to simply upgrade to the final version once it officially launches?

Thanks for the help!

PS: I know, I know—some of you might want to suggest that I shouldn't be touching beta OS versions if I rely on my computer for work, but my current gut feeling is that it'll be stable enough for me to pull the trigger.
PPS: Which version would you suggest I download right now (I have a 64-bit processor), and where can I grab it? (A link would be awesome if anyone has one).

Wait, isn't it true that x86 runs on one type of processor while x64 requires another? Could someone please clarify how that works?
Windows 7 in Software ·
Where’s the easiest place to grab this? Is it up on RapidShare? Also, I can't quite wrap my head around the timeline—I'm struggling to find the right term here... basically, how long will we still be getting Windows updates if we're running these "black" versions?
Windows 7 in Software ·
Is it possible to install Daemon Tools or Alcohol on Windows 7?
When will the full version be released?
Can I perform an upgrade directly from XP using newer builds, or am I still stuck having to go through Vista first?

I was just calling out your ass-kissing attitude.

So, the takeaway from your logic is that any positive critique is just an ass-kissing approach? 😕 And you actually believe that's a valid point?

I don't have the time for that—nor the inclination to pay for it—you chocolate-covered spammer. 😍

PS: I just "always" say exactly what's on my mind, regardless of what anyone else might think about it. Back when those new rules were being rolled out—with all the messy interpretations regarding signatures and such—I held my own views (not particularly great ones, admittedly) and I spoke them plainly.

PPS: @ Tyndal ABB: You really think there isn't?

Between my schedule and the fees involved—honestly, I don't have the time for that, you chocolate-covered spammer. 😉

I’m being completely sincere when I say kudos to Anderlon—it seems to me he possesses quite a bit of solid management talent. Someone mentioned a silent majority earlier, specifically regarding dissatisfaction with the moderation over at on the edge of science.
Well, look, the chronic flamers with thousands of posts have finally been filtered out, and naturally, those who lived for the drama are feeling a bit slighted. The more balanced folks—the ones who actually appreciate that the constant fighting and spamming has died down (though, granted, there’s still some spam because the moderators on that PDF act like they aren't even working; I get that impression since every thread is cluttered with chat and junk)—those people are better off without it. They don't even need to bother weighing in on this thread here. In my view, that is the silent majority, or at least half of them. It would be better if Anderlon "aligned" himself with that group, engaging in a more civilized manner in exchange for a diversity of opinions. That is truly commendable.
And therefore, the idea that a mass of interlocutors here is implying anything is just wrong. This isn't about suppressing certain viewpoints; it’s exactly what Keith Phillips3 mentioned.

The conditions have finally been set for people capable of actual discussion to show up—assuming such people exist, of course—but that happens gradually. Normal people simply bypass places like this that are riddled with bad manners. (I honestly consider myself a fool sometimes for even visiting places like this on the internet—you know, forums and such.) Once there’s a bit more culture established over a longer period, both those people and the rest will notice, they'll start showing up in greater numbers, and the discussions will become higher quality and more diverse.

Because of that, even Anderlon shouldn't bother addressing these false insinuations, or at least these biased and incorrect observations, as he has already assessed the situation and stated his piece. There is no point in arguing this to death; we all have much smarter and more productive things to do.

A really solid option for that kind of project would be Adobe Premiere Elements, though it isn't free—luckily, I already have it in my toolkit. It’s quite intuitive and straightforward to use, featuring about a hundred different transitions to play with. You can export directly to a DVD with a custom menu, or even an executable file, depending on what you need.
Traffic violation procedures in Criminal and Misdemeanor Law ·
Could someone please enlighten me—what specific violation actually led to his license being suspended?

To be honest, I’ve completely lost track of my own appeals and what comes next, let alone where my payment slips are—God knows. But there isn't much to it; I think it was just one or two infractions... Oh, and they finally served me the ruling from the Supreme Court before the two-year mark hit. They aren't lagging behind anymore; you can't just wait out the statute of limitations that easily.

PS: Michael Perez5, regarding that appeal you wrote about—even though you can't file it anymore—just a tip for the future: it sounds way too (way, way too) irritating and combative. I doubt anyone (whether it's the Police or the Courts) would take you seriously. You need to swallow your pride a little, or at least pretend to. Act a bit scattered, maybe play the victim—act naive, kind, or even a little dim-witted 😬 —that's how you write petitions. Not the way you do.
Whenever I'm away from Washington, D.C., I find myself missing the local scene—though I should be back tomorrow evening. I was actually planning on catching a screening at the histrion. 🙂(As for this one, since it’s Japanese, I’d much rather see it. A few months back, there was a series of those films by that one director; they were decent enough, honestly. It's just a shame they scheduled this Japanese filmmaker for the wrong day

Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
coppergardener said:hey

I recently had my first appointment with a psychiatrist—it actually lasted a good twenty minutes or so, which was surprising—and I've been dealing with these symptoms for about ten years now. On my clinical assessment, she noted progressive schizotypal personality disorder (which, truth be told, is what I had already diagnosed myself) and mentioned that there’s an observable progression of schizophrenic processes under observation. Now, here is the thing: I am resisting medication for the time being; I really wanted to see if psychotherapy could be my first line of defense. Of course—as I had already suspected—she informed me quite bluntly that no therapist in the States is going to take me on if I refuse to take medication. Since I don't have symptoms that would actively derail the therapy sessions themselves, and considering how overworked our American psychiatrists are—seeing fifty or sixty patients a day is not uncommon—I highly doubt anyone would bother talking to me unless I was medicated. I even asked her what kind of prescription she would suggest if I did decide to comply... and she said she wasn't quite sure yet. Well, isn't that just... something.

Can anyone here tell me what kind of medications are typically prescribed for schizotypal disorder? (To add some context: I deal with intrusive thoughts and elements that lean toward cyclothymia... though no hallucinations... if I were to list every single symptom, I'd practically be writing a dissertation 😁.)

And honestly, what on earth... if there is an organic basis for this, I have no way of knowing what it might be since I declined the meds right out of the gate. She simply told me that given the nature of my questions and my intellectual capacity, I could only find the kind of care I'm looking for through private practice—which, unfortunately, is simply not an option for me financially—and then she told me to reach out for a follow-up as needed. A follow-up🙄...

I certainly suspect that functioning properly without medication might be a struggle, but due to certain personal and health-related reasons, I have a massive amount of fear and resistance when it comes to drugs.

So... is there anyone else here living with schizotypal?

Thanks!

I highly doubt—though I don't have much experience here—that a good private psychotherapist would turn you away... I suppose you won't truly know until you ask. I once met Dr. Denis Legac, who is a vice president of the American Society for Medical Hypnosis. Who knows if hypnosis might help you? She (Legac) is located near San Francisco, and she seemed alright to me (even though those "merchant" doctors irritate me—the ones who view their profession as just selling services based on market principles, as if medicine were no different from any other business).
In cases like this, I'd always suggest reaching out to a more advanced psychotherapist—someone well-versed in modern, cutting-edge therapeutic techniques... I think that would offer a better chance at finding relief.
I’d honestly rather have gone to see The Simpsons instead of that movie—one review pretty much tore it apart, and frankly, I’ve never been a huge fan of Italian culture or the language, if I'm being honest. If I’m actually going to sit through a theater experience, it’ll probably be another seven years from now. 😬
It’s a shame that Tuskanac isn't open then.
Aha, thanks...
And what did they tell you—that tickets for all the screenings are already sold out? So there’s really no point in me even trying, then...

The movie itself isn't really my thing, and I've never been much of a fan of Italian cinema, but alright.

What's the deal with Tuskanac, though? Nothing happening there over the summer?
Does anyone happen to have any info on this movie (
