Back at the 1980 US Grand Prix in Detroit—the penultimate race of that season—Didier Pironi ended up with a jump start on the restart.
Even though he led most of the race and technically crossed the finish line first, it didn't mean much—the stewards hit him with a 60-second penalty immediately. That dropped his total time down, leaving him in third place, about 20 seconds behind the leaders.
It’s worth noting that forty years ago, back when tech was still pretty primitive, the officials didn't spend years debating things in a room somewhere; decisions were made on the spot, everyone knew the verdict, and Pironi went ahead and took his third-place spot on the podium just like anyone else.

I think I'll steer clear of commenting on that collision between Lewis and Max—I'd rather not risk getting another permanent ban.
Remembering Ayrton Senna in Formula 1 ·
ruggedhawk20 said:Yeah, Senna had a crappy start and Hakkinen was right on his tail—just plowed straight into him. If Senna hadn't botched the start, Hakkinen wouldn't have hit him.

The steering column snapped because of the impact with the wall.

Back at Indianapolis in '94, Larina in the Ferrari—who was filling in for Alesio Senna for a few races—slammed into Senna.
Senna struggled with the start, allowing Schumi to overtake him, and as they approached the first corner, Senna wasn't about to pull a move on Michael like what happened to Prost back in '90 at Suzuki. He had to ease off a bit, but Mika clipped his rear just enough to send Senna spinning off the track.

4season said:Why? It’s actually a beautiful American word. Plenty of people can relate to it, so it fits perfectly.

That term feels more suited for a PDF of the New York Times... you'll find plenty of those types over there...

In Formula 1, though, these guys are putting their lives on the line...
Years ago, Luis Salo—a MotoGP 2 rider—lost his life at turn 12 in Barcelona...
His bike slid out, hit the tire barriers, and just a second or two later, Salo collided with the stationary bike... (you can check it out on YouTube if you want to see the footage...)
He died right there on the track...
And that was turn 12—the penultimate turn—which isn't even used in Formula 1 anymore...
In Formula 1, they actually installed a chicane after that turn to slow things down before the main straight...

Here’s a massive paradox for you!
Consider this an exclusive scoop from me—not some tabloid rag...

It seems the more Ferrari struggles, the better Vettel looks on the scoreboard.
In the last two races where Ferrari completely fell apart,
Vettel actually managed to close the gap to Nico Rosberg by 21 points!

I guess it’s not always a case of "out of the frying pan and into the fire"—sometimes one thing's failure actually clears the way for another.

Hey everyone.
Just wanted to share a little tribute to the fastest guy out there right now.
I snapped these last year.
In the first shot, Max is signing an autograph for me—the second one was taken last year on Thursday at St. Devote.
Joe actually has my photo of the A4 Ricciardo from Monaco, complete with his signature from when we ran into each other at Monza last year.

Timothy Castillo6 said:I used to carry both the news and the coverage from FormulaPassion.com.
If someone claims they landed an exclusive with the Gazette, then I guess it’s their big day.
The Gazette is still a powerhouse compared to our local sites, though.

Maybe they have the edge in soccer or other sports, but when it comes to Formula 1, they don't really have any exclusives—they aren't breaking news before anyone else.
This statement from Ricciardo came right after FP2, which is standard procedure—all drivers are required to take questions from the press at that point. So, Ricciardo isn't just answering to the local reporters; he's talking to everyone gathered around to hear from the guy who just clocked the best time.
FormulaPassion.com actually dropped this info yesterday at 4:15 PM, so it's not exactly true that the Gazette had an exclusive.
Besides, I might be a bit out of the loop here, but anyone who follows F1 regularly knows that once all the practice sessions and qualifying rounds wrap up, the drivers gather in one spot. They give statements in English first for the international media, and then they repeat themselves in their native language.

And every accredited journalist gets access there.

One more thing—you won't see a reporter's byline in a Gazette piece, whereas FormulaPassion always includes the specific author's name.
A serious news outlet or a major publication would make a huge deal about having a special correspondent trackside or claiming an exclusive!!!
So, there's the truth about their "exclusivity."

Most likely, they just paid some freelancer a small fee to publish his write-up.

Timothy Castillo6 said:Just as everyone expected—Ricciardo is absolutely loving the new engine. He’s claiming it's worth at least a 0.2-second gain per lap.
The latest reports from the Gazette suggest some serious shifts ahead in the paddock—looks like the tension is definitely ramping up as we head toward the GP Las Vegas. It’s interesting to see how the dynamics are shifting between the drivers, especially with the pressure mounting on the top teams to deliver. One can't help but wonder if the current strategy will hold up when things get intense on the track. It feels like we're on the verge of a real turning point this season.
Red Bull Racing’s own Ricciardo is giving the engine a massive vote of confidence—claiming it's worth at least two-tenths of a second.

And then there's Max—he’s claiming he needs at least two more races before he actually feels in sync with the car.
The latest updates from the Gazette regarding Formula 1 are rolling in—looks like the tension is building ahead of the GP Las Vegas. It’s getting interesting, to say the least. Everything seems to be centering around how the teams are handling the technical shifts as we head into this stretch. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the telemetry data once the sessions get underway. Stay tuned.
Formula 1: Verstappen claims he'll have the Red Bull under control in just two more races.

So, what happens next, then? 🤷

If you want to stay on top of the latest Formula 1 news—specifically the stuff that actually matters—you really ought to be checking out these two sites:

FormulaPassion.com

The Gazette tends to lean into the sensationalist side of things—they’ll blow problems way out of proportion and act like every single win is some kind of miracle. I suppose that's because Formula 1 isn't their main focus, so they treat it more like a side show. They handle it exactly like our local news outlets do: It’ll be running through your veins—you honestly won't believe what happened to me today when I finally rolled out of bed this morning. It was absolutely wild—total nonsense, really.

The two sources I follow feel much more grounded and objective—mostly because they’re written by established journalists and insiders who have direct ties to Formula 1, whether they're active now or were in the past.

Jenson Button had a rough run through FP 1 this morning. Right after St Devote, he hit a manhole cover that had been moved—sort of a repeat of what happened with Juan Pablo Montoya back in China in 2005—and ended up snapping his front wing and suspension.

Felipe Massa, predictably... spun out at St Devote. Last year, I actually made a bet with some guys from Italy about how many times Massa would lose it there...
Don't forget, back in 2008, Massa had that penalty and then completely botched his race because he went off track... and where? Right at St Devote, of course, and still managed to finish third.

Ferrari is still struggling—even with Allison coming into the pits, they just can't seem to get anything right. Kimi is looking better than Sebastian Vettel again.
It looks like Seb just isn't himself this year... driving way too aggressively...

McLaren, as usual... nothing but nonsense from their press releases. It’s almost like the truck drivers hauling their gear are just a couple of guys carrying manure with shovels, clogging up all the communication channels.

Hey everyone. After being tied up with things for a few days, I'm finally getting around to posting some shots I took of the drivers and cars back during my previous trips to Monaco.
Just a little something to build the hype before tomorrow's free practice sessions.
I’ll be dropping more photos later—just random bits and pieces to give you a feel for the atmosphere there.
And since one click usually turns any of these into a perfect profile picture, feel free to grab whatever you like.
