Not 🤣 We’ve all just been floating around aimlessly here for the longest time, and honestly, I'm kind of over it 🤷 From here on out, I'm getting down to business 🙂

cosmicjackal4 said:They only mentioned Zelboraf to us, but they said a DNA analysis has to be done first to see if the specific mutation is actually there for the drug to work on. Since we're coming from Canada, they hadn't really brought that up yet... Does anyone have any experience with this? What's the deal?

What you're looking at is a combination therapy that is still being validated, but honestly, the Phase I and II clinical trial results for patients with locally advanced or metastatic melanoma look incredibly promising. On average, survival rates have been about four times longer compared to what we've seen with the previous gold standard (which was just ipilimumab alone). You can read more about the specifics here.

If you want to dig deeper, you can find information regarding all the various studies related to advanced melanoma here.
cosmicjackal4 said:Exactly... just taking it one day at a time, and we'll see what tomorrow brings.

The doctors told him today that he'll be starting some kind of combination therapy next week—radiation and a few other things... We're focusing heavily on boosting his immune system right now. We're staying positive and hoping this treatment keeps him steady, but we're just rolling with the punches. It reminds me of something Charles Darwin once said:

"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change."

You might want to ask the doctor if his father could potentially be a candidate for an Opdivo + Yervoy clinical trial.
Jamie Rivera78 said:A biopsy is a risky procedure that can potentially trigger metastasis. The same logic applies to any kind of cutting into tumor tissue. This isn't some new discovery; it's something we've understood for quite a while now.

Beyond that, you can't always rely on a biopsy to be 100% accurate, since there's always a chance the sample won't actually capture the malignant cells.

LOM doesn't have the professional authority to go against a specialist's recommendation.
You should forward those results directly to the doctor who ordered them.

When it comes to those people throwing around insults, I honestly have just one word for them: shameful. ☕
I mentioned earlier that there’s really no need to go wandering through the hospital halls unless he’s actually feeling unwell . From what I recall, the man went through all the necessary tests during his stay (or at least, those were the ones he was supposed to complete). That way, if things do take a turn for the worse, any changes will be much easier to spot by comparing the old results with the new ones.
cosmiclynx14, it could be degenerative changes in the bones, which is most likely the case if the markers are looking okay.

Zachary Howard2, what’s really the point of all those tests if the decision has already been made not to pursue treatment? I don't quite get what they'd actually do once they find specific targets. It feels more humane to just let someone live out their remaining months as normally as possible, rather than dragging them from hospital to hospital when they aren't even feeling that bad.
hollowridge88, hang in there! 🙂 🙂

They just keep crunching those numbers, over and over again, trying to make everything balance...

And yet, when you finally get to retirement, the payout usually ends up being only about 40% of what your average salary used to be. ☕
Amanda Wells75 said:Has anyone ever actually tried treating themselves with petroleum or "black honey"?

Using petroleum? Not even in my wildest dreams. If you're really feeling the urge to explore alternative therapies—whether they're unproven or just plain ineffective—please, at least pick something that isn't dangerous.

Honey is perfectly fine, provided you pick up a quality jar from a local pharmacy.
Angela Wright said:We all carry around cancer cells at various moments in our lives, which are kept in check by our immune system. This theory actually makes some sense—if you consider that flooding the body with vitamins, antioxidants, or immune boosters might inadvertently act as a catalyst for tumor growth because the cells have already established their own little environment.

It’s possible the issue isn't necessarily about the tumor's own immunity, but rather that some studies surprisingly suggest antioxidants might actually speed up the transformation of pre-malignant cells into malignant ones.

Abaza, I remember you. Unfortunately, I don't have anything comforting to say. In situations like this, jaundice usually points toward liver failure—especially when you factor in the number and locations of the metastases, the diet, and their overall condition... It’s heartbreaking, but the end is unfortunately very close. I am so sorry 😢
brisklynx51 🙂 I am so sorry to hear that.
Elizabeth Watson28 said:@ironranger3/">@@ironranger3 Thanks for getting back to me, but I think I'll lay everything out clearly now. About six years ago, I went through surgery for malignant breast cancer, followed by chemo and radiation. Now, I’m on Lupron injections every three months. To be honest, I’m dreading chemotherapy because of the experience I had at the hospital in Miami—nobody there would even offer me a glass of water, let alone help manage my pain. That’s why I was asking if there are any other options available (regardless of cost) besides chemo, because I just don't have the strength left to go through that again. Thanks in advance.

Have you looked into participating in a clinical trial? Right here you can find a list of trials for metastatic breast cancer organized by country; it might be worth a look.

Dennis Carter2 said:I just joined this forum because my father fell ill with lung cancer. The tumor is located in his right lung and measures about 9x7cm. Surgery wasn't an option, so they suggested chemotherapy instead.
Unfortunately, my father is refusing medical help and has turned down treatment. Right now, he's just using some topical ointment and some cannabis oil we managed to track down. I can't say for sure if he's doing better than when he was in the hospital, but I really don't know.
What kind of experiences have you all had with this?

It’s going to be pretty tough to find anyone who has tried what your father is doing right now and actually seen success. Do you know specifically what type of tumor it is?
How much longer is this gonna take?? in Forum Help! ·
I’m right there with you on this one. It’s honestly such a shame ☕
