So what happens then???
🤔

Oh, come on; you've always got the US Congress.
Lord of War (2005) in Movies ·
Man, what a fantastic movie! Honestly, it drags for maybe twenty minutes too long, but it’s still such a blast. It actually restored my faith in Cage! It’s also pretty wild how much you can draw parallels between this and Midsommar.
House of Sand and Fog (2003) in Movies ·
Look, the movie is actually pretty solid. Everything about it feels professionally crafted, you know? The acting is top-tier, the production is tight—all that good stuff. But there was one thing that absolutely drove me up the wall from start to finish: the female lead is just impossibly, mind-numbingly stupid. Like, she’s so clueless that her sheer lack of common sense is the sole reason she loses her house. Seriously, she's like those walking clichés you see in bad jokes. Once that clicked for me, the whole movie just lost its magic.

I mean, what’s so tragic about an idiot screwing up? When you see how many other people get dragged down by her stupidity, you almost want to rewind the film just to give her a reality check! And don't even get me started on the director—the nerve of him to portray her as some kind of hero! Honestly, if the ancient Greeks had written such shallow tragedies, they wouldn't have lasted until the era of Alexander the Great, let alone survived to this day.

Constantine said:I'm just totally over those shallow movies like Underworld that try to hook teenagers by leaning so hard on sex and action.

Oh, wow, yeah—nothing worse than sex and action, right? Give me a break! It makes me cringe, especially the sex scenes.

Constantine said:Secondly: where are the days when the leads were guys like Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Kurt Russell, and Stallone? Real mačizam is what you get with Conan!

Hey, who knows? I find women pretty attractive too! I don't even know how to label it. Is it just being "girly"? I know it isn't feminism.

Constantine said:Thirdly: it's just pure stupidity how they wear that tight leather in the second installment, whereas look at Blade. His outfit is flawless: everything fits perfectly from his silver discs to his katana.

Wow, talk about picking a "high-quality" movie for comparison... Seriously, is there any movie or franchise more ridiculous than Blade? Honestly, the only things worth watching in that whole thing are Snipes and his coat. (Look, I've seen them all, and I'll probably watch a fourth if they ever make one, but hey, you gotta know what's actually good!)

Constantine said:Women didn't have any rights back then (Middle Ages, the Inquisition, and stuff like that). They were just mistresses or housewives.

Sure, take Joan of Arc, Countess Bathory, or Elizabeth I... (Those are just the first three that popped into my head, and they definitely left a trail of blood behind them!)
R.I.P. Chris Penn in Movies ·
Sean Penn really started out as kind of a ridiculous actor, didn't he? But man, as he gets older, he just keeps getting better and better. For instance, in 'The Translator,' he was pretty much the only one who actually delivered anything worthwhile in that whole movie.

Honestly, I’m just here for Jutt Kleinschmidt. In my humble opinion, she’s easily the greatest driver of the modern era.
I just got ADSL: Now what? in Software ·
I honestly don't get it—why on earth does everyone feel the need to reboot their system constantly? Personally, I just shut my PC down whenever I'm swapping out hardware, and I'll hit restart if I'm running some kind of installation. On average, that's maybe once every two weeks. And honestly, I couldn't care less whether it takes five seconds or five minutes to boot up! Seriously though, why do people even bother turning their computers off?
Zeljkoo said:Now that I really think about it, I mostly just watch movies I actually enjoy... which means pretty much everything listed in this thread.

Emmanuel... is that even considered "cult"? Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen such pathetic trash in my entire life.

😠

I am totally with you on that! Honestly, the absolute worst thing is when some adult film director tries to get all deep and philosophical on you. If we’re going to mix genres, wouldn't it be way better if a real philosopher decided to take a crack at making porn instead? haha!
slylynx16 said:Two words: Deep Throat. image

Honestly, I think Erica Jong nailed the explanation better than anyone else:

"It was based on the idea that all a man had to do was put his penis down a woman's throat and thrust and the woman was as satisfied as the man. Well, guess what?"

Jesus, if this isn't a totally missed mark of a critique, then I don't know what is!

Look, Deep Throat is—wait for it—a porn movie! Its entire purpose was just to pull a dick out of some guy's pants and cash from the viewer's wallet. Trying to write an "artistic critique" about it requires some serious mental gymnastics, doesn't it?

The whole massive fuss surrounding the film only happened because, at that specific moment in history, a few Americans in certain cultural circles decided they were too embarrassed to admit they were watching porn unless they could find "something more" in it. The first one they stumbled upon was Deep Throat, which is basically built on the ridiculous premise of a girl born with a clitoris in her throat instead of between her legs. It's a porn comedy. (And a pretty terrible comedy and a really bad porn flick at that, especially since the lead actress isn't exactly easy on the eyes, BTW.)

Man, Erica Jong must have been having a really rough day. I guess zip was closed.

Honestly, Raging Bull, The Deer Hunter, Spirited Away, and 2001: A Space Odyssey are all just painfully boring movies to me.

I’m with you on everything except Raging Bull. That one was top-tier for me! It’s out on DVD now at the local video store; I seriously can't wait to grab it and watch it again.
Betty Blue

The velvet blue vibes (honestly, I’m absolutely obsessed with anything by David Lynch)

Pretty much everything Antonioni has ever made, except for Blow-Up

Look, I’ve been an independent entrepreneur out there somewhere since the early eighties. I’ve hopped through plenty of different gigs and launched more than a few businesses myself. Every entrepreneur needs various services, and sometimes your whole operation depends on them. And let’s be real—you know as well as I do that the quality of service available these days is hit or miss at best. It feels like high standards aren't exactly the top priority for most people around here.

When you actually stumble upon someone who is putting in the work and doing things the right way, don't you think they deserve a little public shout-out? It's a rare thing! So, even if this is some kind of sponsored post (which, let's face it, it probably is), those folks actually earned it.

If only I had more chances to brag about the vendors I actually use...

Zachary Rodriguez32 said:How on earth does a company actually turn a profit by delivering newspapers for free? 😕

It’s pretty much the same playbook Penguin Random House uses with their newsstands. They sell you the paper at the retail price, but they’re picking them up at wholesale. That margin covers all their overhead and still leaves them with a nice little slice of profit on top!
Arthur Anderson49 said:Is this actually worth looking into?

Honestly? It’s a textbook scam—a classic pyramid scheme that’s been circling the drain for over 150 years now. Back in the mid-1800s, some Russian mathematician (I think it was Perelman or something similar) actually broke down the math behind why they fail.

In the States, we saw versions of this pop up all the time, but if you look back at history, these things spread like wildfire. They show up everywhere, popping up overnight like mushrooms after a rainstorm, only to vanish just as fast once they've bled everyone dry. It’s one of those massive financial frauds that leaves a huge trail of broken people in its wake.

My honest advice? By all means, dive right in! Go ahead and get involved so you can feel the sting on your own wallet. That way, you'll learn the hard way and know to steer clear of stuff like this like the plague in the future. Trust me, nothing teaches a lesson quite like losing your own cash, right?
Polanski's Oliver Twist in Movies ·
Justin Patel said:For me, Oliver Twist is easily one of the best films released this year. Honestly, I think it’s such a massive challenge to adapt a literary masterpiece that’s already been done a thousand different ways. It’s easy enough to be "original," but it’s way tougher to take something everyone has seen before and turn it into something refreshing, beautifully edited, and packed with rich detail.
Polanski absolutely rocks.

I haven't caught o. T. yet, but I totally agree that working with a famous source material is probably the toughest gig there is. Nothing is harder than pulling off a great remake! And hey, Polanski has already proven he can do it with massive success. His Macbeth is hands down the best version I've ever seen; it's actually the only one that felt truly worthy of Shakespeare.

Look, people can throw whatever complaints they want at me, but I just didn't see it that way. I wasn't sitting there trying to deconstruct every single frame; I was just enjoying the ride, and on a purely gut level, I thought it was fantastic. Plus, can we talk about Claire Forlani? I honestly couldn't take my eyes off her. At the end of the day, you know what they say—to each their own!

And let’s be real, Brad's hair was a little... much, don't you think?
Meet Joe Black in Movies ·
Dennis Torres said:I wasn't really feeling this movie at all.

Well, you’re definitely in the minority there!

Sure, you can pick apart the flaws if you really want to, but most people aren't looking for reasons to complain—they just settle into the story, which is honestly solid enough to make you forget the hiccups.

The cast definitely helps carry the weight, too. Everything feels super intentional—just look at how perfectly the supporting roles are distributed. It's clearly been thought out.

If I were judging this strictly on paper, I wouldn't have given it a dime, but in reality? It totally caught me off guard in the best way possible.

And can we talk about Claire Forlani? Now, she might be a little too slender for my taste—I’ve always preferred women with more curves—but man, she looks absolutely killer in those elegant dresses.
goldengull3 said:Catalina is absolutely brilliant for that kind of stuff...

I don't know about you, but I disagree! Sure, she’s a total bombshell, but man, she is such a headache to fly. You basically need two pilots just to keep her steady, those vintage engines have more attitude than a teenager, and—let’s be real—there isn't much room to breathe in there.

Honestly, I think that Rus plane they passed on for firefighting is actually the way to go. Check it out here.

Plus, Verrgel makes sure your delivery is totally secure because they let you pick exactly how and where you want your stuff dropped off. Talk about peace of mind, right?
And hey, if you're eligible for a tax refund under the current tax code, your subscription actually ends up being cheaper than grabbing a paper at a gas station convenience store.

Just look at this testimonial from a happy customer—Verrgel has been absolutely killing it for years. You can literally leave them a key to your front door or even your mailbox, and they'll tuck everything away inside for you. It doesn't cost an extra dime! The only thing is you pay for the subscription upfront. They’re also super flexible if you need to pause things for holidays and stuff. They deliver everything from foreign newspapers to glossy magazines, you name it. Honestly, it’s one of the best services I’ve ever used.
So, what movies do you actually like? in Movies ·
For decades, my absolute rule of thumb was The Third Man.

Then there was Orson Welles's Falstaff.

And Blade Runner.

Plus pretty much all those early Mike Nicholls classics.

And honestly, almost everything Clint Eastwood ever touched. I’d say Million Dollar Baby is easily one of his best.

Polanski back in his prime—from his early stuff all the way up to Macbeth (which might just be the finest Shakespeare adaptation I've ever laid eyes on).

Tarantino is a total maniac, right? And Takeshi Kitano is just so cool.

Those old Japanese samurai flicks were legendary. Hidden Fortress, Bloody Throne, Seven Samurai... they don't make them like that anymore!

The French used to really know how to craft a movie too. Especially those gritty crime thrillers.

Does anyone else here actually dig American cinema from the classics? I've found some gems over the years. Like Baba Yaga's Birch, Fanelli's Way to Paradise (featuring the late, great Ljub Tadić), Radić's Living Truth, Berković's Rondo, Mimi's Kaya, and all those Golikov's films...
