Random FPS drops on my laptop out of nowhere in IT Support ·
It’s a temporary fix, really... if you haven't actually pinpointed what triggered the issue in the first place, I suspect it'll just crawl right back out to haunt you after the next update rolls around...
What do you want to leave behind when you're gone? in Miscellaneous ·
Everything... my wife, my kids, my grandkids, great-grandkids—pretty much every single thing I’ve ever mumbled, typed, or scribbled down, every photo, every like, every scrap of digital and physical data that defines who I am... I’d hand it all over. But there’s a massive catch: it would have to be the absolute, raw truth of what I actually said or did. I wouldn't touch some edited, sanitized, or doctored version that someone tinkered with just to satisfy political agendas or whatever other nonsense is floating around these days. Though, honestly, I suspect that’s a total pipe dream. I’ve personally nuked my own Facebook, Reddit, and gaming profiles before, and trust me, there was some good stuff in there. It feels like the villains are already busy scrubbing my life’s work, making things inaccessible, or redirecting links to fake destinations under the guise of "protecting" me, when they’re really just protecting their own interests. So, maybe my wish is just impossible. This world is a dumpster fire. I don't even trust my own father, and sometimes I don't even trust myself, let alone documentaries or anything I can just Google, because I know exactly how the sausage gets made and why. Even here, I see older posts getting edited and scrubbed, so you can imagine what happens on the big, loud mainstream sites. Sometimes I literally see a character I type change into something else, only to eventually settle on what I originally intended. At this point, I’m not even sure if I can write or post anything and have people actually see what I meant. Or vice versa. With advanced AI running on rule-sets designed to manufacture specific opinions, I could be typing one thing while you see another, and we might both end up seeing a third version entirely. The digital age is just pure garbage.

It’s probably one of those things where some dormant miner just sits there quietly until you launch a game, or maybe you accidentally installed some weird third-party GPU drivers. It could also be a specific task sitting in your Task Scheduler that triggers whenever you run something in windowed mode. Honestly, there's always the possibility that your game folder was redirected after some hacker got into your system—meaning your whole PC might be partially hijacked. Basically, either the issue is that your software is triggering when it shouldn't during full-screen apps, or perhaps it stopped working entirely after you tried to fix it. If you were part of a workgroup sharing resources, maybe you aren't receiving them anymore. It might even be that someone set up some video capture or background streaming of your gameplay. Or maybe your GPU clocks were throttled. It could be an issue with DPI scaling, or maybe your hard drive is struggling with more than just loading the game files. Even if you dropped your laptop, the GPU might have slightly unseated itself from its slot... If you're using a gaming mouse, its onboard memory could even be infected... I guess it could really be anything at this point.

I’m probably going to pull the trigger on this next month, unless anyone here happens to have some horror stories or negative experiences to share?

silentwolf53 said:Can anyone recommend a TV or a monitor somewhere in the 30-35 inch range?

It’ll mostly be used as a monitor—my main display, really, since my laptop screen will just be acting as a secondary one.

Since our home office doubles as the guest room, we might use it as a TV every now and then, though I guess that isn't a strict requirement.

Budget-wise—honestly, I have no clue how prices work these days, but I suppose something mid-range would be perfectly fine.

That one above used to be a staple recommendation on the tech forums for a long time...

If you end up wanting something slightly bigger, maybe a TV larger than 35", this one looks decent enough to me: https://www.bestbuy.com/catalog/product/vie...android-354707

I suppose you could actually put your phone's processor through its paces too, rather than just sticking to desktop rigs.

You can grab Bench right here: https://www.geekbench.com/geekbench4/download/

I mean, if you actually remember who it was, they probably sent over a link detailing exactly which passcode you need to enter. It’s highly likely they all share the same factory default setting anyway, so I guess I'm not entirely sure why you're still dwelling on this?

I guess these represent the absolute peak numbers a GPU can actually hit. I suppose if you're looking into crypto mining, the GP/s part probably doesn't matter much at all; it’s really just the gflops you should be watching.
