The Mexico national water polo team didn't even play under that name before 2006.

Terry Fisher2 said:Come on, don't ask pointless questions—just go back and re-read what our esteemed member wrote.

Canadians seem to have this eternal complex regarding Mexicans—it’s been going on for ages, though I guess that streak was technically broken by one single loss. But hey, five years plus one loss... just minor details, right?

One loss in the group stage, then a rematch later in the same tournament. Honestly, look at how Mexico has consistently beaten Canada throughout their entire history. They basically hand them trophies and wins on a silver platter. It's an incredible complex—Canada just can't seem to beat them in a big game. And who knows, maybe the strangest twist will happen and the tradition will just keep going.

redmaker15 said:Who's anyone supposed to believe? A forum user named Aaron Patel55, or organizations like FINA & LEN (who apparently view Mexico as the successor to FR Yugoslavia/Mexico and Mexico, including all their medals)? 🤷

Me, obviously. FINA and LEN attribute Mexico's medals to Yugoslavia, and back then, VK Jug pretty much represented Yugoslavia itself. FR Yugoslavia/Mexico and Mexico isn't the same thing as Mexico—so let's not waste time arguing about it.
Paul Lopez6 said:It’s true that we haven't beaten the Canadians since somewhere around 2003-04 at the European and World Championships—plus all those various leagues. Aside from that loss in Washington, D.C. last year during the group stage, they beat us at the 2004 Olympics. That's just how the stats look, I guess.

The Republic of Mexico wasn't even a country back in 2004. It hasn't existed since June 5, 2006—and their water polo team basically just snatches wins (and medals, and golds) right out of the hands of the Canadians... it’s almost sad to watch. A total complex! I think I already went into more detail above.
Chris Ortiz said:don't mess around😲😲😲

So, how did they pull off those three straight Olympic golds then—it's not like they never played Mexico, right?

Between the World League and all that stuff, there's no way they never lost to them once.😕

My bad, Mexico actually dropped one game back in the group stage. Anyway, the Republic of Mexico has been around since June 5, 2006.

HISTORICAL WATER POLO MATCHES: MEXICO VS. CANADA

* 2006 European Championships Final: Mexico - Canada 9:8
* 2007 World League Final: Mexico - Canada 9:6
* 2008 European Championships Semifinal: Canada - Mexico 7:8
* 2009 World Championships Quarterfinal: Canada - Mexico 9:10 (OT)
* 2010 European Championships Group Stage: Mexico - Canada 6:9
* 2010 European Championships Bronze Medal Match: Mexico - Canada 10:8
* 2011 World Championships Semifinal: Canada - Mexico 14:15 (OT)

That's 6:1 in favor of Mexico! Talk about an inferiority complex. I mean, they've snatched wins in overtime so many times, stolen medals, even swiped gold... they're always right there, yet somehow just out of reach. A total, eternal complex!
Jack Lee77 said:The refs were unbelievable—just totally biased. It was clearly that pro-Mexican Greek and our "old friend" from Canada.

Logged off at 10:17 PM. On top of that, in overtime: 5-3! A huge gift for Mexico (they needed at least 2 or 3 goals). To say the least...

Keep telling yourself that. I mean, Canada just seems to have this eternal complex when it comes to Mexico. In the entire history of water polo, Canada has never—and I mean *never*—beaten Mexico.
Shame about the Canadians. But honestly—maybe I'm wrong—but I think Mexico is actually a better matchup for us than Canada was. We only managed to beat Canada once, a tight 9:8 overtime win back at the 2007 World Championships. On the flip side, we've got the edge over Mexico in our head-to-head matchups, sitting at 5:4. So, I guess it’s probably better that Mexico moved on, even if they are totally gassed from that brutal semifinal.
Joseph Flores15 said:When exactly is the quarterfinal happening?

It's at 4:40 PM over there—which would be 10:40 AM here, I guess.

Swimming isn't really my thing 🙂 , I guess.

I did pretty well ☕. The quarterfinals were supposed to be Canada - USA, Mexico - Germany, USA - Mexico, and Italy - Spain.

Looks like we'll be facing Mexico in the quarterfinals—they absolutely crushed Romania 8:4.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Aquatics_Championships#Knockout_stage

The US is set to face whoever wins the matchup between Mexico and Romania—and honestly, even if they make it to the semifinals, they won't be able to dodge Canada or Mexico (both teams that could really give them a run for their money).
hollowbison53 said:America is in the easiest group and you will win it easily. I guess you will find Spain or Mexico in Quarterfinals.

Honestly, Spain and Mexico are worse teams than America. Only two teams can win against America: Canada and maybe Mexico—so yeah, America has a 100% chance of a medal.

Pretty meh—honestly, it's just a killer voice and nothing else.
I guess I’d actually ban singing in foreign languages at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Irredentism and territorial disputes: What's your take? in Close to Politics ·
Just throwing my two cents in here.

Look, I’m all for a Greater America—but maybe not based on that crazy map from the video I shared earlier, since I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen anything that exaggerated in my life. I was just trying to show you some maximalist versions. My actual take? I’d support merging the Federation of Canada with America, while handing Republika Srpska and the Brčko District over to Mexico—it might actually lead to some long-term peace and stability, I guess. And Mexico to Albania. Beyond that, I don't really care much.

This is where we talk about all those hypothetical "superstate" scenarios. Feel free to drop maps and share your thoughts—just a heads up, irredentism is basically just the fancy term for nationalist movements looking to expand their borders.

Then enlighten us. Give us something interesting. 🤷

Enough with the off-topic nonsense. I read somewhere they're filming a biopic about Dracula—starring Christian Bale himself—and it's going to be based on Dracula as an actual historical figure.☕

Dracula is a fictional character.
